I saw a donation page for Gorgie Farm recently, it is in deep deep water. A small example but a pertinent one. If you think autism and dementia therapy would be enough to see chicken farms/sanctuary’s all over the place you are deluded. Without using them for eggs and meat they would be a novelty here and there and that is it. Using them to create chicken manure would be laughed out the dragons den. Seriously wee Theo and Deborah would be rolling about the floor if someone asked for investment to farm chickens for manure. Chicken and Hens are a high commodity in this country for two reasons – meat and eggs. Will you have Unicorns in this sanctuary? If you're a fan of Dragons Den then you'll remember Shaun Pulfrey and his Tangle Teezer was rejected in the den as he was told it was 'not a business'. The Tangle Teezer is now turning over more than £23 million a year. If you think Dragons Den suitability is the key to success you’re a chump. The sanctuaries will be run by likeminded vegans as a not for profit organisation. Have you ever heard of Austin Pets Alive? Since they were founded in 2008, Austin Pets Alive have rescued 25,000 dogs and cats. But hey, since they are a not for profit and wouldn’t line the pockets of pompous investors what is the point!? Will there be unicorns? No of course not, but neither will there be short sighted people like yourself.

(admin delete) Chicken manure is one of the most desirable manures due to its high nutrient level. In just America food scraps make up about 17% (29 million tons) of what is sent to landfills, chickens can eat pretty much most kitchen scraps – fruit and vegetable peelings, bread, cooked beans, cooked rice, oatmeal, pasta etc Keeping chickens is seen as therapeutic for children on the autism spectrum by getting the kids involved in feeding and caring for the chickens. They have also been used for patients with dementia and other psychiatric disorders. Because chickens are always moving around, pecking and socializing, they’re seen as calming. This is just a handful of many reasons. Educate yourself before making such ridiculous statements, (admin delete) This is a good post, albeit a little laden on hyberbole and name calling. Until society can shift its one dimensional thinking of Animal = food then we can't really begin to seek out the other benefits they can bring to us and our environment. The most staggering this is how hypocritical it all is when you consider a number of the carnists will likely have pets that they would be horrified if someone was to butcher and consume. Weird and conflicting view.

If things go to plan I will have a role in deciding where conservation money goes. I am all for letting species decide their own fate. If they're out-competed by other wild animals then so be it. Aside from the welfare issues you aren't contributing to antibiotic resistance, CO2 emissions and all of the other environmental issues associated with intensive farming. Recreational fishing can be a bit dodgy depending on how the fisherman disposes of used fishing line and so on but it's still infinitely better the trawlers that wipe out entire populations. I think I8 is referring to sport hunting in the below definition (from an online dictionary, not interested in an etymology debate as I'm sure your interpretation differs), it may be more apt to use the term 'trophy hunting': sport hunting hunting without collection of a food or other commercial product; hunting for trophy or prize. I'm inclined to agree with that definition and also that those who do it are awful people. Hunting with collection of food or for pest control, I'm totally at ease with. People can't seem to grasp that sport/pest contol/food are the same!! "hunting without collection of a food or other commercial product" Apart from from the big African cats, everything else pretty much is eaten or sold to be eaten, if its eaten or sold to be eaten it both food and a commercial product, whether its a stag with antlers destined to be mounted(oo Matron) or a hind with no trophy value apart from the skin and ivory. No one really needs to eat venison or pigeon or rabbit or trout but people like to for various reasons. Do you think people who shoot and enjoy the "sport" deserve the title "scum twisted evil ect" and labbled "no better than murderers"? It's a bit strong in my book.
