Well there's obviously a conflict of interest if the SPFL Board carries out the review themselves.

However, I see it as a first step in acknowledging that the original decision was flawed.

Indeed. Hopefully the next step of the internal review would be to re-open LNS or set up a new review panel to look at it. That's a long shot though.

I feel sorry for him personally, he's just a classic thick footballer.

He should have been able to trust one of the most famous clubs in the world with his wages.

Murray is the one who should be bankrupt and homeless.

I agree about Murray but......feel sorry for him? No, no and no! He was being greedy end of!! He would have had advisors providing winks and nudges relating to tax avoidance. He knew exactly what was going on! Feel sprry for Barry Ferguson ......your having a laugh! Feel sorry for the small businesses that have lost out ......yes!

Maybe with the newco being chased for millions by wavetower they know something we don't are sevco going to run from this latest claim by going down admin route to escape paying up,this makes sense

I don't think their after cash, its the auld "whars the deeds" that's the problem and admin ain't gonna change that. as I understand it wavetowers claim is that the assets belong to them

The first rat to be flushed out of the hole

http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/15429959.Former_Rangers_star_Barry_Ferguson_declared_bankrupt_with_debts_of_more_than___1_4_million/

Former Rangers star Barry Ferguson declared bankrupt with debts of more than ?1.4 million

FORMER Rangers star Barry Ferguson has been made bankrupt with debts of more than ?1.4 million.

The ex-Scotland captain was declared insolvent after failing to settle large bills thought to be owed to the taxman.

He is one of a number of former Ibrox stars who faced paying back money they had received in Employee Benefit Trusts (EBTs) after Rangers lost a battle with HMRC at the Supreme Court earlier this month.

Ferguson, 39, who recently stepped down as manager of Clyde, received ?2.5 million in EBT payments.

He also invested in a film production partnership called Eclipse which has targeted by HMRC after being ruled to be a tax avoidance scheme.

Ferguson applied for his own bankruptcy after running up debts of ?1,425,633 and it was approved by the Accountant In Bankruptcy, Scotland's insolvency service, earlier this month.

A bankruptcy trustee, Maureen Leslie of Glasgow-based insolvency specialists MLM Solutions, has been appointed to take control of his assets and try to recover money owed to creditors. She said she did not comment on individual cases.

Ferguson, who lives in a gated mansion near Larkhall, Lanarkshire, has declared that he has only ?3,000 worth of assets available to help pay off his creditors.

The so-called Rangers 'big tax case' centred on the use of EBTs. More than ?47million was paid to players, managers and directors between 2001 and 2010 in tax-free loans.

Earlier this month judges found that 'loans' paid to players and staff were in fact taxable earnings, in a decision that brought to a close legal proceedings that have dragged on for years.

What a terrible thing to happen to anyone but on this occasion and the rest these cretins.

Great news

It's still going to cost them to defend the action and if it's lost these assets could be liquidated absolutely glorious

What is the point of re-viewing it if they have already decided it is "unlikely"!!!  Is this McLaughlin "spin"?  I doubt he would have written this if he had not been tipped off that SPFL do not have the appetite (guts) for it.

There HAS to be a new Independent review.

My guess is they have reviewed this and realised that a lawyer could drive a bus through the rulebook and that their previous occupants of their board seats have left them in a no win situation.

Will be interesting to see what he has done here. Transferring your assets before bankruptcy is not straightforward so I wonder who is advising him. As he is clearly an idiot it would be no surprise to see him acting illegally.

I'd make a guess that quite a few of those being chased by HMRC may have acted very naively (and possibly illegally) by trying to transfer assets to avoid the tax man getting them, and may get a nasty surprise at how persistent Hector can be, and just how far he can reach....

Interesting to see RTC tweeting about the "review"

Firstly following Rod Petrie saying there will be a review......

News that @spfl will review Rangers' EBT use is welcome, but must also include DOS scheme too. We're watching. No whitewash this time.

Let's not be naive. @spfl review of EBTs could well be a ruse to delay a judicial review of LNS processes until it is time-barred. No delay.

Why should we believe that the same SPL/SPFL (they are one and the same) that set up the LNS whitewash will not do the same again?

Then after Chris McLaughlin tweeted about the statement to come on Wednesday .............

Well that was a very quick review.

"SPFL review" claim looks like more PR-style news management from SPFL. There is no review. They will rubber-stamp LNS. Time to act.

I'm tired of those who take money out of the game telling those of us who put money in that we should forget 12 years of cheating and fraud.

More from STV

Hearts owner Ann Budge said after the meeting on Monday: "There's going to be a statement on Wednesday, other than that I'm afraid I can't say any more. We have discussed it at some length."

When asked if a decision had been made, Budge said: "A decision? No, there are recommendations. You will fully understand on Wednesday.

"A new board has had to look at all of the facts thoroughly. It's a brand new board. I think for us to come out with something now would be quite a big ask."

I can see this ending up with a crowd funded request for a judicial review.

As controversial as it sounds (tin hat on time) I would be happy to cancel my direct debit and use it to fund the review request. I want them punished, or at the very least have titles removed for the years that I Sat in the stands supporting Hearts whilst rangers were allowed to breach the rules and regulations for their own gain, I'm not asking for financial compensation I'm only asking for the sfa to do the right thing for once. AB if your paying attention then grow a set and make your voice known otherwise the game is well and truly up the pole and pointless.

Surely canceling the direct debit it to the detriment of Hearts??

I like the double  use of its a new board.. remembering peter liewell was on the last board he has must have agreed with the findings. like a snake hes realised the s**ts about it hit the fan with the celtic support and he's jumped ship.

I trust Budge to give us the full facts that we can make our own minds up if the decision not to punish deedcos cheating was right or not.

Some Hearts fans have been disappointed in the way this has been handled by Hearts. I'm one of them. There is no way what happened should be brushed aside. We should be at the forefront leading by example. Ann hopefully will make changes.

Perhaps the threat of FOH members cancelling would be enough to convey the message that we demand action to be sought by Hearts.

Perhaps, but it's a 's move in my book. If you genuinely feel that strongly about it, you should be getting off your arse and doing something positive instead of threatening a negative to the one club you love the most.

My statement above was as a general comment and in no way would I wish to harm Hearts. As a contributor though I am also entitled to my opinion and I generally feel quite peeved at the deafening silence from our club in this matter. I'm annoyed for all those times I left a game after watching our team get outplayed by a different quality of player that has now been shown to have been registered incorrectly and against the regulations.

This whole situation will most likely be swept under the carpet and we will be treated like mugs who will just be expected to shush and move on, yet the amount of times over the last 15 years we have had the book thrown at us for irrelevant and menial things is embarrassing so forgive me for being a little bitter about it all.

All I wanted was for our club to come out and make some sort of statement to express our disappointment in what happened and how the court ruling has shown TCFKAR, in fact, did break the rules and cheated every other club and fan of the other teams over that tainted decade......... But nothing.

The club has been quick enough to make statements in the past about incidents and issues however to me it seems like our owners desperation to be sat at the big table means we no longer have a backbone. How many of us rejoiced at AB's inclusion onto the board thinking she may change the same old same old crap we've had to put up with for decades yet the first opportunity to stand up and have a voice.......... Nothing.

I don't really care whether other people on here think my opinion is skewed as that is their opinion and they are entitled to it but carries no more weight than mine. I just want our club to get off the fence on this occasion and represent the majority of the fans who feel disgust in the way this has been dealt with.......yet nothing.

Sadly I am with you both. If SPFL's new board (and GFA) are acting in the same manner as the old what is the point. Celtic and The Rangers are already given more opportunities to grow than the rest of Scottish Football put together with the TV money. Add to that zero being done about the behaviour of fans of both clubs. The authorities are desparate for them to be back at the top of a piss poor league together. Then they'll start saying they're ready to leave to join EPL or anywhere they can get to, just as the development clubs (of Celtic and The Rangers only) are allowed to play in the SPFL lower leagues. Before we know it they'll be allowed to be promoted and it all begins again. No thanks

Just for some light reading, a "Charlotte Fakes" document from July 2012 which purports to be the SPL's undertaking to Sevco Scotland re the 5 way agreement.  It could be the basis of legal advice that no further action can be taken.

If that's accurate then it's a free pass for Sevco and Doncaster should walk.

I had hoped that Mrs Budge would have been a breath of fresh air inside the SPFL. I'll wait and see what comes out on Wednesday. However, I hope that we don't get more condescending nonsense. The facts are plain - Rangers cheated to gain sporting advantage and having been found out people inside the SFA and the SPL at the time moved to ensure that they would not be punished. Anywhere else there would be a load of sackings and resignations over this. Not here though. Why?

Scandalous that this is being swept under the carpet. Let's just watch out for the next unfortunate club to make a mistake or cheet and see what punishment the get. This inaction will set a precedent for a low level punishment but the rules will be changed as they were for Romanov. Watch this space.
