The substance, 7/10. Demi Moore looks amazing still in this batshit crazy body horror, about her desire to stay youthful after getting fired from her TV star job. Not for the squeamish!

Oh I fancy this

Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)
Not as funny or as clever as the previous two Deadpool outings.
A plot we've seen many times before.
Cameos made just for the sake of it and for memberberries.
By far the weakest of the Deadpool films.
Still decent enough entertainment to spend a couple of hours watching but I think they should knock it on the head now.

7/10

A whole pile of nothing.

There's a vacuous emptiness about all the Apple films and TV shows. That Argyle film about the writer (the gorgeous redhead, can't remember her name) was the same, as was Sugar with Colin Farrell and Severance. It's like they have great ideas on paper and then are happy to just make them very highly-polished, slick nothingness. Even the actors look like they can't be arsed or don't want to fully commit to the roles. The worst of all was the Apple TV show with Harrison Ford about the psychologists/pyschiatrists. Hollow junk.

Civil War

fantastic movie, really superb. The sound was incredible

9/10

Not as far fetched a storyline as first seemed. Actually very well shot and great for surround cinema sound buffs. However the story went from just barely possible and believable to downright ludicrous and spoiled a pretty well put together movie with some great scenes and set pieces in it. Still worth a watch but just 6/10 maybe a soft 7 for me.

Only Lovers Left Alive (2013)
Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton star as a pair of jaded Vampires in this atmospheric, brooding and melancholy Gothic romance set in a dilapidated Detroit.
Cracking little bit of cinema.

8/10

5 minutes in and I’ve realised I’ve watched it already. The previous watching is a blessing as I’ve no urge to sit through this tripe again.

Good tripe though.😄

I like a it's so bad it's worth a watch shark movie.

Under Paris next on my watch list.

I really enjoyed Under Paris. Completely bonkers but good. And the lead actress adds to the enjoyment.

Joker: Folie à Deux

Don't think the writer really understood their own version of the character. This one could divide opinion I suspect but I was very disappointed.

I’ve just watched Hundreds Of Beavers (steady at the back there with the giggling). Absolutely bonkers low budget slapstick comedy, like a cross between Buster Keaton and Wile E Coyote. Probably a bit too long as most things seem to be but several laugh out loud moments if you enjoy silly visual comedy.

Speak no Evil. 8.5/10, MacAvoy is tremendous in this, one of the most tense watches I've had for a while.

John Findlay

Maggie Moores, starring John Hamm and Tina Fey.

Film done in the mould of the Cohen brothers, but obviously not a Cohen brothers film. I enjoyed it.

8/10.

Watch the original if you get the chance man - superb compared to this one, and this one is good - just a tad too Hollywood for me

I was disappointed the director didn't have the same ending as the original, grim as it was. Considering the bleak ending to his other films, eden lake, I was a little surprised he chickened out.

If it were a standalone film I'd highly recommend it.

But like you, I'm telling those who listen to watch the original. It's far superior.

I read that the studio mandated a slightly more upbeat ending to appeal more generally to the market, which is understandable but aye, the original absolutely packs a punch 👍

Eden Lake - Tis decent too

Yeah agree. I don't mind films and stories going in a particular direction if they sell it well and justify the conclusion, but it felt like this set a different outcome up than it delivered. And not in a Third Man, Empire Strikes Back or even Infinity War subvert expectations manner either.

Sadly a couple of simple tweaks to the script would have fixed that aspect.

deadpool & wolverine 5.5/10

a bit too long winded and weaker than the previous two deadpool films

Spoiler

some decent moments with some of the cameos, but the plot seemed a bit all over the place like they kept changing what would happen.

Joker the pretentious second film name

I'm...I'm not sure Tbh

It's either genius or garbage

Todd Phillips has either made a sequel that totally misses the point, or deliberately sabotages it (a la Gremlins 2)

The musical numbers (and it is a musical) are both twee and menacing

It's either a brilliant deep dive into shared madness, or it's just plain stupid

I have to watch it again, but I'm not sure why

Watched this at the weekend , thought it started very well MacAvoy genuinely made so many seems uncomfortable to watch, then it started to slip away once it all "kicked off" and got pretty stupid. The dad came accross as more annoying and almost comedy like in his cowardliness.

6.5/10

Does make me want a holiday in Italy though.

Watched this at the weekend for the second time and enjoyed it a bit more, up until about 3/4 of the way through then it just got a bit yawn. The Deadpool Vs Wolverine scenes were very well done , but the cameos were pretty underwhelming .

Not seen it so can’t comment . However reminds me how the American version of

“ the vanishing “ had a completely different ending to the far superior Dutch  original version . Was a real cop out . Although Jeff Bridges was creepy as fevk as the lead .

Sting

Reasonably entertaining arachnid (from space!) monster film with some nice effects. A slick 90 minutes and was quite enjoyable. 7/10

However, this review from online a week ago disagreed. Spoilers and some deep issues included....

That little girl pissed me off the entire movie, Ethan was the only good character the mom was too quick to try to break up with him despite the fact that he worked his ass off to do what he needed for his kids and her, constantly broke his own back just to provide for them just to have one moment of weakness and have it used against him immediately, he actually had the balls to tell the girl about her dad being a bum and basically carried the whole movie, Charlotte is a crappily written character and adds nothing to the movie other than being an accomplice to every single person who died, only complaint I have about Ethan is that he didn't tell her the truth that she is souley responsible for every single person's death through out the movie, she's selfish, irresponsible and the little tantrums she throws just makes me dislike her even more, the spider was cool though it makes no freaking sense why it would go out and kill a bunch of people and animals and decide to go back into its jar and somehow screw the lid back on from the inside, there's only one word for that and it's called retarded. Charlette had me pissed off from the very first scene she was in to the very end of the movie she's a spoiled ****ing Bratt and if her and the mom were killed by the spider at the end and the dad and the baby were the ones who lived id give the movie a 5 star rating, she tried so freaking hard to be as creepy as she
could at the same time being a stupid little bitch and was literally warned by the asain guy that the spider was venomous and still had the audacity to wanna keep it in the same house as a newborn baby. the mom can honestly go **** herself for making it seem like her dad was a brilliant amazing dude and letting her daughter put him on a pedestal while at the same time shitting on the guy who actually was there for them, she constantly pampered the little bitch and i nearly exited off of the pirating movie site I watched it on because I damn sure wasn't gonna spend my hard earned money to watch a movie about a 12 year old girl with daddy issues and a spider that killed everyone except for the little bitch that truly deserved it.

So deflated by this and think it’s basically a FU like you say with your Gremlins 2 analogy.

Horrific film and a literal assassination of the first which was brilliant.

The box office and reaction are quite something - genuine comic book fans will be actually angry at this but seemed to me Phillips didn’t want to do it, got his pay cheque and bigger budget and then went baws deep on getting it up everyone that enjoyed the first .

One of the greatest film disappointments I can ever remember and that’s saying something after Rise of Skywalker and Crystal Skull.

See everyone that is watching the new Speak  no Evil - stop it immediately!!!

Hunt down the original Danish one and watch that first - like night and day and makes the new one look like a children’s Sat afternoon matinee.

Rise of the Foot Soldier part 3.

Ok I am a new recruit to this, watched first 3 in last 2 weeks.

Very violent but compulsive viewing of club drug wars.

Pat Tate n Tony Tucker what a mental duo.

5 out of 5 for me.
