Introduced my son to The Usual Suspects. Fantastic film.

We have recently watched a few Clint Eastwood films (got a 32 disc box set). The 3 spaghetti westerns (mentioned on this thread before), the first Dirty Harry, The Mule and Grand Torino. Clint is now his favourite actor.

Also watched Pride with him. I was born and brought up in a mining community and I was my sons age during the miners strike. The film is a great watch too.

It will be a couple of years yet before se7en is suggested for him. Fabulous film that haunted me for days after watching it.

Damaged on Amazon Prime. Shot in and around Edinburgh serial killer film with Samuel L Jackson and a mainly Scottish cast including John Hannah. Pretty run of the mill stuff with a twist in the tail near the end. Not the greatest film ever but only an hour and a half.

Spoiler

Ultimately an unsatisfactory ending though that I’m not sure why the writers thought was a good idea.

Beetlejuice.

When to see this with my good lady at Vue Ocean Terminal yesterday afternoon. Very good follow up. Tim Burton being dark and funny.

It was like Michael Keaton, Catherine O'Hara and Winona Ryder had never been away. It's rated 12A but I would think twice about taking anyone 8 or under to see it, as there are a few scenes that could really scare them.

8.5/10 for me.

Borderlands.

For quite a star studded cast this was an awful adaption of the popular video game.

The Borderlands 2013, British horror film, is a must-see film. The final 10 minutes are pretty messed up.

Jackpot! on Prime, very poor. I like John Cena in the TV show Peacemaker, and he doesn't mind sending himself up for laughs, but this film was pretty much devoid of them.

This was great. Better than just a band doc. Shame about the football loyalites but... they should stick to hurley.

Twisters (2024)

An enjoyable enough summer blockbuster in the classic mid-late 90's style.

Not a direct sequel to the 1996 film, nor a remake; just another film about tornadoes.

Characters are all pricks for various reasons and some of the CGI is shonky but it's a decent way to spend a couple of hours.

Can't say I have seen the original.

From what I've read it is an improvement though.

Civil War starring Kirsten Dunst who plays a war journalist traveling from NYC to Washington DC during a present day all out US civil war.

The premise is there's a despotic federal government at war with an array of secessionist states. California and Texas are described as western forces at war with the federal government along with what's called the Florida alliance.

All very dystopian but depressingly not as far fetched as it would have been just 10 years ago. It's worth a watch.

From writer/director Alex Garland and starring Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Cailee Spaeny. CIVIL WAR – In Theaters April 12, 2024. Now Available On Demand.

Substance starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley. A really stomach turning grotesque body horror and a tough watch. For those who find David Cronenberg a bit tame. It does make some points about female beauty/exploitation and the pressures to maintain the ideal of youth. Hats off to Demi Moore who gives it the fully committed performance, nudity and all, that the film demanded otherwise it would have fallen flat. The ending with its

Don't even bother, so bad I watched it all. Like rubber necking a bad accident, wanted to look away but was stuck to see how terrible it actually could get.

Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story.

This was a very rare occasion when we went to the cinema to watch a documentary. Very moving story which benefited from the availability of tons of home movie footage, and largely recounted by family and friends.

5 minutes in and I’ve realised I’ve watched it already. The previous watching is a blessing as I’ve no urge to sit through this tripe again.

Beautiful film . Really enjoyed it . Gives a good insight into the oppression and subjugation of women on Islamic states. Very funny then becomes quite dark . Wonderful performances by the two leads .

It really was excellent and as I said very enlightening about women in Islamic states . Shameful really . But it’s quite optimistic really . Unfortunately the writers etc have been huckled by the “ morality police “ so unsure  of their fate . Not seen that other film but I’ll look it up . Thanks . You know maybe a few of those dafties protesting about Palestine 🇵🇸 need to view this film too .

Why do you think people protesting against a genocide in Palestine need to view a film about something which isn't about a genocide in Palestine?

Seeing as The Penguin TV spinoff is getting rave reviews, I thought I'd better do my homework and catch up on The Batman (2022)

I'm not sure it had to be three hours long, but it's a decent enough entry into the franchise.

If I had to describe it in as few words as possible, those words would be "Bruce Wick"

In an old people's home. Acting of the highest order.

The substance, 7/10. Demi Moore looks amazing still in this batshit crazy body horror, about her desire to stay youthful after getting fired from her TV star job. Not for the squeamish!
