neilnunb Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 A Quiet Place: Day One I loved the first two and whilst this isn't as good it was still decent. The wee cat was a great actor. 😁 7/10 Quote
Tazio Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 I’m currently watching Godzilla x Kong The New Empire. I’m not ashamed to say I’ve not got a ****ing clue what’s going on. Absolutely appalling script that makes no sense. Quote

Ray Gin Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Agree with the above praise. Wallace & Gromit was class. Quote
Tazio Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Good fun and a fitting follow up to the original. Spoiler I wondered why Charles Deitz from the first film was portrayed as a puppet and just thought it was a typically quirky little gag. Turns out the actor was done as a sex offender and wasn’t considered for the film. Though the portrayal through a voice actor impersonating him was with his permission Quote
JudyJudyJudy Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 “ Triangle of sadness “ Really enjoyed this quirky tale about the super Rich on a luxury yacht which is hijackeed then sinks by modern day pirates . Some of rich and the yacht staff survive and land on a “ desert island “ then the Fun begins ! It’s exceptional really . 9/10 Quote
JudyJudyJudy Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 “ Carry on “ load of nonsense really but the actor Taron Egerton is always worth watching 6/10 Quote
JudyJudyJudy Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 “ The critic “ with hammy Ian Mckellan . Mark Strong and Gemma Aterton . Hammy nonsense about a vicious old critic who faces the chop as a theatre critic and resorts to various shenanigans to ensure he doesn’t . 5/10 . Quote

If you’re looking for anything remotely as good as Gladiator you’ll be disappointed. Some great fight scenes. How did they catch and transport the sharks in that era? Some poor casting. 6/10 It obviously wasn't poor casting mate...they caught the f#cking shark Quote

Muppetboy Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Nosferatu, 8/10. How a horror should be. A classic story with atmosphere and a genuinely frightening evil entity as the villain. Excellent casting and performances throughout Quote
superjack Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Just finished gladiator 2. FFS, up there with the worst of films. Sharks, really? Quote
JudyJudyJudy Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 " The Ten Commandments " 1956 It was on council telly so i thought id give myself a treat and rewatch this epic. It really is an epic. Big sets, glorious technicolour effects, music score , scenery et al. Chuck Wooden Heston playing the prohet Moses as if he was in a Shakespeare play. To be fair to him he had the necessary gravatis to play Moses , if not the accent. Yul Bryner playing his brother Rameses who will not let Moses people go and he suffers terribly due to this. Its a really great cast with Vincent Price , Edward G Robinson , Judith Anderson , Yvonne de Carlo ( i know all my old film stars) and the camptasitc Anne Baxter as the venomous Queen Nefretiri. She really chews the scenery LOL. Excellent hokum. 8/10 from me. Quote

Disser Pointon Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Better Man. Safe to say I'm not a big Robbie Williams fan but this was excellent all the same, a solid 8/10. The use of the CGI chimp to play him rather than an actor worked brilliantly. Quote
Tazio Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Just watched Father Goose on Ch4 with Cary Grant and Lesley Caron. Perfect old school escapism. Guns Of Navarone is on next bud sadly I have to go out. Quote

Tazio Posted January 1 Posted January 1 The Searchers. Surely the most controversial character John Wayne ever played, a man obsessed with revenge and hatred. It’s a shame that the Hollywood system at the time felt the need to put the humorous side story of Martin and the girl he left behind and the ridiculous character of Charlie. If that part of the film was cut out it would have been an even more influential film than it already is. Beautiful camera work with the iconic closing image of Ethan in particular. Quote
Cruyff Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Speak no evil (2024) "A dream holiday turns into a living nightmare when an American couple and their daughter spend the weekend at a British family's idyllic country estate". James McAvoys a great actor. Plays a great nutter. 8.5/10 Quote

Bozi Posted January 3 Posted January 3 The Substance - or David Croenenbergs Death Becomes Her Very interesting film exploring ageism and the desperate pursuit of youth in modern society. Excellent performances by Demi Moore as the ageing star desperately trying to remain relevant and loved and Dennis Quaid as the grotesque executive throwing her on the scrap heap and finding the "next hot thing" he can exploit. The whole thing embraces the shallowness of Hollywood and although it's never explained how Sparkles actually pays for the 'substance' the cost is clear. Pity the ending goes a little too silly but definitely a movie worth watching Quote

Still enjoyable though Quote

luckyBatistuta Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Just finished The Substance Thought it was time to watch this after seeing Demi Moore lift a Globe for her performance. There is no time to watch this movie, just don’t. What a pile of horseshit. I can’t believe I hung in there to the end. Terrible film 0.5/10 .5 only because Demi Moore is in it Quote
