Slimmed down and raring to go after an extended winter break, the second half of the AS League gets under way this Sunday..... There's been a change over the winter break, with the creation of a new team, THE SWINGING PLUS 8s, incorporating Portobellojambo1 and weegranty. Their now defunct previous teams The Plus 8s? and Swing This Way were level in the league on 13 points - and so the new team enters the league with this points total. Their +/- hole difference is an average of their two previous teams' totals - so they enter with a +/- of minus 1. And thanks to an unlucky toss of a coin, they're regarded as having played their joker. So, the AS League run-in will be contested by eight teams, over seven fixtures. To remind you, the teams are 1. Sons of Seve 2. Granny Bile 3. The Swinging Plus 8s 4. Braw Braw Lads 5. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly 6. The Silence of the Bams 7. Jamie and the magic Bugman 8. Juanmilan The League table has been adjusted to cater for the eight teams, and the players in those teams (as if you don't know who you all are) can be found here. By way of a quick reminder, all teams have played 8 fixtures to date, and the current ranking is.... 1st The Silence of the Bams - 27 2nd JuanMilan - 16 3rd Jamie and the magic Bugman - 15 4th The Swinging Plus 8s - 13 5th Braw Braw Lads - 12 6th The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - 9 7th Granny Bile - 9 8th Sons Of Seve - 7 The full table can be found here... Of note is that the Braw Braw Lads have used all three of their allowed substitutes, so must turn up for all their remaining fixtures. I mentioned rule changes for the league, and I had planned to get draconian over the matter of games not being played within the specified time period. But I won't do that for now.... new year spirit and all that, the rules will remain as before. Right, on to the main business - the first set of fixtures...... And they are..... Next Saturday evening is definitely a no, no as it has potential to get very messy depending on how things go down Easter Road way in the afternoon. Just finished our game, and it looked like it was over and done after 8 holes, as we were down by 3 holes at that point and beginning to wish the Christmas/New Year break had lasted a little longer. Managed to win 9, get level early in the back 9, go 1 up, back to AS, back to 1 up, and then halved a couple of holes. Still a chance of a tie at the last hole but we managed to pinch that to finish 2 up. J&TMB were clearly off form and out of luck - although there were some cracking shots in there, including jamie driving and bouncing over the huge bunker to roll over the green on the 8th. Not seen that before, shame it ended up in thick fescue. Anyhoo, Grannies were solid rather than spectacular - we both crocked shots, but managed to drag each other out of trouble.
