Great course but very testing - especially if the wind picks up. The greens are very undulating and tricky if you don't find the right spots.

9th is drivable, 16 is a great hole and 17 is worth the wait.

Food is decent but if you don't have a deal which includes lunch etc, leave the property, turn right and about two minutes away is Braes which is part of the caravan park complex. Good food at very reasonable prices. 👍

Sounds good, we have roll & a coffee, round of golf & scran after for £60

Enjoy. Sounds like one of the season-opening offers they do for March each year. Condition should be decent since it's been up and running for a few weeks without frost. Despite it being a wet month, hopefully the drainage has been good.

If you are looking to return during the peak season, keep an eye on the Scottish Golf website as the course was often advertised as having a few tee times each day for £200. Good value if you can get a fourball to split the cost.

Thanks for that. Our works golf section has a few outings organised for the year, I also have a few senior opens booked through Golf Empire as well as two golf trips abroad.

Had a rather nice win at the Casino yesterday so planning on treating myself to a new Driver. Thinking the Stealth.

Any recommendations? Will probably get it fitted.

Can't recommend Graham at the Titleist fitting studio at Craigielaw highly enough.

If they are Titleist affiliated, do they get deals on Titleist clubs that other retailers don't? Or is it pretty much RRP?

He just gives you the spec you require and you take that to whoever you want to purchase from and they order to your spec

The market leaders are all pretty much offering new fangled tech to make the last offering seem poor. 😄

What's your handicap? If you've not invested in new wedges for a while, that's a good area to look at to see your scores tumble.

If you are set on a driver, you could save a bit by looking at PXG as they have their previous ranges discounted but stlll offer fittings at various locations (for EH, King's Acre is a fitting location)

I doubt any driver from the past 10 years gains any amateur player more than a few yards.

like you say, investing in wedges or even a custom fit putter would be beneficial for most players over a driver.

Definitely.

I'm lucky if I use a driver more than four times a round.

As Monty says, 70% of your shots are from 70 yards and in. I've played with numerous players who I could better off the tee for distance and accuracy. However, they could display why they were off 3 and under by how they could make a score with the short game or consistently scramble from around the green.

Wedges are near enough brand new as is the rest of the bag excl the driver.

Playing off 8 currently. Always been drawn to taylormade woods for some reason. Served me well most of the time, was just curious to see what others experiences had been recently as I’ve not bought one in maybe 5/6 years.

I got fitted by the local pro a couple of weeks ago and walked away with Qi10 LS. The local pro covers ping, taylormade and Titleist which I think is enough. We spent more time getting the shaft right. I think if you go somewhere that offers more brands (North Berwick for example) you’ll spend more time rattling through heads than getting the right shaft. Very happy with my purchase and it has definitely got me a few yards. My previous driver was fitted by Scott Gourlays team and although the experience is good they are just “shafting” you on the shaft with large mark ups for Accra or Oban shafts. My advice would be go to somewhere that has 2/3 brands that you like and find a nice head then spend a bit of time finding a good stock shaft.

Fairly confident in my shaft. I've been using a stiff for a while and haven't looked back.

Impromptu visit whilst waiting on a mate's train at Haymarket. Took a jaunt up to Fountain Park, sat down with a pint at the slots, 15 mins later I was walking out with 4 figures worth. Quit while I was ahead. Better in my pocket than chasing something more...

It's all dependent on your handicap and playing style but I bought a Cobra Aerojet driver and absolutely love it.

Great question 😂

Joining a link course is the best decision I’ve ever made. I’ve had 8 rounds there since beginning of Feb when I joined. On those 8 days my old place was shut for 6 of them.

Only played that once just after covid nice track but was not in good nick when I played as the greenskeepers were laid off during covid.

Too much of a trek for me from Mid Lothian.

I’d agree with you at that time. It wasn’t in great shape. I’ve a bunch of mates there so played it often with sign ons and wouldn’t have imagined me joining then.

But they’ve got a new greens team in, think this maybe their 3rd year now, and it’s improving year on year. Very good condition now and making some really good improvements all around the course.

Just wish they’d build a new tee at 18 about 20 yards further back (they have the room) and make it a par 5! One of those holes where 5 is always a good score for me, I’ve not got the minerals to be on in 2 😂

30mph cross wind most of the front 9 but was up at 45-50mph with a lot in the face. No desire to play in that ever again 😂

Played Monifieth twice before, really like it.

Missed entry to their seniors this year.

I love the setting of the 18th green.

I really enjoyed it, first time playing. Wouldn’t mind playing it again but without fear of the wind blowing me away 😂

I played with a couple of mates today on Gullane Number 3 - the course was in great nick considering the weather over the last few days.  There were one or two puddles on the course and that is unusual to be honest.  The greens were in really nice condition.

So - The wind - Flip me! it was hard work today - I got 1 birdy and 5 pars.  I hit a drive and 9 to a par 5 and two drivers were short at a par four.  Hitting 3 and 4 irons into 135yrd par 3s.  It was a real test out there today.  And I am knackered

Still happy to have played with mates though!

Hoping the weather improves for this weekend, staying with mates near Carlisle and got three rounds lined up. Seascale open on Saturday, Powfoot on Sunday and Brampton on Monday. My mate is a member at Brampton and Powfoot. Played Seascale once, lovely course......... Apart from Selafield right next to it!

I seen a Facebook post last week by Powfoot. The video showing a Greenkeeper opening up a drain to let the water away.

Want to play down there, take the caravan down. That and Southeness

We tried to play Southerness and Powfoot last Sept . Day 1 Southness got an absolute soaking and we lasted 16 holes.Dried out and the next morning arrived at Powfoot to a large lake.

We are giving it another go next month (fingers crossed) SN defo worth a visit.
