Southerness is well worth the trip, played their open last year. I was glad it was a Texas scramble though as it's a brute of a course, especially with a wind blowing.

Has anyone booked a round in Belek as a one off? Ie a family holiday but nipped out for a round one day?

 

None of the travel companies seem to want to know, I’m guessing because I’m not wanting the full shebang.

Taking inspiration from the cheap strips thread, I tried out grips from Temu. 10 iomic grips plus a fitting kit from ebay, total cost about £25. Grips are very good quality and hopefully they last a few years 🤞

Have used knock off/cheap grips a couple of times and it is absolutely worth the money paying for the 'real' deal.

 

If you want to shoot good scores, paying a bit more for decent grips is worth it. You might find the way you grip the club changes as the grip smooths out and loses the cushion.

Bought knock off Golf Pride grips once and they were a nightmare to get on right and align, they twisted and warped a little. After a season they look like they'd shrunk and lost the cushion feel.

Mine fitted on pretty easily i found, only time will tell how good they really are, but first impressions are good.

Was down last Tuesday. Beautiful place. A few blind tee shots and relatively short. Clubhouse and facilities were amazing. Every hole felt very distinct:

Anyone tried the Titleist T iron range? Eyeing the T100 or T150. Don't want too chunky a club, like the look and feel of blades but after a bit more forgiveness and the T100 sounds just that though it's more geared towards tour players. T150 looks a bit bigger and less of a blade.

2.5 hours to get through 12 holes at longniddry this afternoon. Completely unacceptable. 4 ball two groups in front must have taken 3 hours to get through 12. Nothing gets on my goat more than slow play on the golf course.

Completely unacceptable? That’s 1h15 per 6 holes, so a 3h45 round.

Far too long in my opinion. Waiting on every hole isn’t enjoyable.

3.45 is far too long for a single golfer.

A perfectly acceptable time for a 2 or 3 ball and a quick time for a 4 ball.

The 4 ball ahead didn’t let the group through so it got jammed up. You’re right, it’s not an awful time but when you’re waiting on people in front and being squeezed by people behind it takes a bit of the enjoyment out of the game for me. 3 hours for singles and 2 balls should be the target.

Played Deer Park Seniors last year. The weather was cracking for September. Golfers must have been calling in asking for spaces and getting told to come along and they would get fitted in. 4-balls all very the place. I stood waiting on the 4th tee and looked at my watch. 

I had been on the course over an hour.

 

It did get better, but I think it was 4hrs20 in the end. Raging.

I don’t understand why folk are in such a rush to get round the course. I know a few who absolutely sprint round, that’s just as annoying as standing waiting on tees.

 

Some days will be slower, some days will be quicker. C’est du golf.

Few of us took the day off, thankfully bevy was provided on course as part of the entry fee. Made it tolerable.

I got fitted for T200s 18 months ago and they're fantastic. To be fair I'd had the same set of Wilson Staffs for 25 years (one set of grips) and as I'm tall I needed new clubs.

 

I tried the T200s, Ping i210 and Taylor Made P790s at the fitting and the Titleist's were by far the most forgiving and consistent. I'm tall so distance is generally above average so the 7 iron was almost always at 170yd which was longer than I'd been used to but the set are so consistent I got yardages dialled in quicker than I thought I would.

 

Handicap has come down from 18 to 14.4 in that time, and I think most of that is down to the clubs as it hadn't really moved in the 5 years prior to changing.

 

I think (THINK) that the range has been updated since I got them so not sure what the difference is but I'd recommend them from my point of view.

I got myself the last model of the Wilson Staff CBs which are broadly similar to the T-100s. I got them in the sale for a steal and sold my old i500s which covered half the cost. Very soft feeling and weaker lofts than my old irons so distance has dropped a bit (7 iron about 158). The main thing for me was consistency of flight and yardage which these have. I’m sure the t-100s will be the same. The t-150 is slightly more forgiving and 2 degrees stronger so will go a little further. They look tremendous too.

Did you try out various shafts too? I think the 2023 T series uses Project LZ shafts, which are a bit more like the Dynamic Gold tapered design.

 

Hoping to get fitted in the next month, never been fitted before and I too been using irons that probably aren't optimal. Glad to hear they've made a difference for you!

They do look tremendous as well, agreed. A big part of buying them is how they looked to me standing over a shot, and it helps focus on the ball rather than some weird addition or angle that the club has.

I'll be honest I didn't try different shafts, but that is perhaps down my inexperience in buying clubs. The fitting was also mainly due to my height and having shafts long enough to help with that. I'm not an absolute freak or anything, 6' 4", but the fitting has made a huge difference to my swing and flexibility. Less back pain too.

 

It was done at American Golf at The Braids, so I'd recommend them if that's any help as well.

Completely agree. I’m not a big fan of seeing a bit of excess bulging out of the back of the club or wherever.

I had project x lz 6.0 in my old irons. Supposed to be low/medium launch and spin but o found them launch too high for me. Got dynamic gold s300 in the Wilson cbs and the launch is perfect for me. Much lower and more of a “penetrating” flight.

Nippon Modus another shaft I might see if I can try out. Medium ball flight is what I'm after, but I guess it all depends on how much shaft lean you swing with and speed.

 

Looking forward to seeing my Trackman results (or I'll be horrified!). I use an app to track yardages so have an idea of how far I hit each iron but that's where the ball stops rolling rather than carry.
