Remove the Celtic and Rangers games and Hearts have won 15, drawn 2 and lost 2 of the last 19 games in all competitions.

That is simply a superb run. Well done to every one of them.

I agree but a win is a win

It is great knowing when we are not ahead in games it's is only a matter of time before we get the vital goal or goals. It's been a long time since you got that feeling in the Premiership especially. We sometimes look slow starters but I would call it biding our time now.

Hibs attendance 18,300... so many empty seats, looks half full in the Hibs end

Must be a 30,000 capacity stadium then.

Confident for away games for the first time in, well, decades!

Could this be Naismith building something special?
And this might just be the start…

Happy days

Another really good result - I honestly can't remember the last time we went on such a great run of form. We're not just unbeaten - we're actually winning all our games 🙂

Not the best of games, but a win is a win, thought Hoff was immense tonight his work rate was excellent, Fraser done well too, Shankland's goal was class (as per), have tbh Forrest not so good. Onwards and upwards, HHGH.

Once again we look better with a pacy striker up beside Shankland, especially against Considune and McGowan.

not the perfect angle on tv but Vargas didn’t look offside for the Mcgowan foul/penalty

They're as bad as the codheids now. Remember they always used to bring at least 5k to Tyne even although the school end only held 3.5k or so.

100% pen. Newell got it all wrong. Not a shred of doubt if watch, stuck last 10 on after St J.

First away in a few not being there, delighted we've kept the run up. We're becoming a quietly efficient team. Might not excite throughout but solid.

I thought tonight we looked a little quicker with balls forward on several ocassioms. Taking our way of playing in recent times and not ripping it up, just evolving.

Football has a habit of punching you when least expect it but genuinely starting to believe this team are going places. Coulda been in mix with them but we're not. It will come...!!!

When's the last time it felt we had a group of players amd a coach pulling same direction...exciting

Pretty solid if not too spectacular this evening.

Kent was solid and Kingsley did well. Forrest put in a good shift and Shankland produced when it mattered.... Again.

From the Saints, Carey still has it and is very good on the ball.

Nieuwenhof had a good game/  Fraser looked like a League 1 player with the game passing him by, similar to many of Grant's games.  And, yes, Shankland's goal was what we now expect!

Lord Beni of Gorgie

Was expecting a bit better, but its mid winter, lots of games, and we limited them to a few minutes each half of pressure. Onwards we go, hard to be critical

It was really tight on the VAR still shot.  His knee just marginally made him offside.

Surprised again to mention this but refereeing has been very good since the Hibs game at Easter Road on December 27th, six weeks ago.

Shankland 'best forward in the league' - Naismith

FT: St Johnstone 0-1 Hearts

Hearts manager Steven Naismith tells BBC Scotland: "The stage we're at we're a good footballing team and control games.

"We more than most have more possession and that leads to playing against a low block at times. You need to find a way.

"First half we probed and prodded and had some good chances, but not as many as we thought we should have.

"These games hinge on that first goal and we speeded the play up in the second half which was better and that gave us the chance.

"Lawrence has put it away with a brilliant couple of touches and a great finish.

"He's in the prime of his career and he's worked hard to get there. He has a clearance off the line which shows his understanding.

"He doesn't do what most forwards do and start going up the pitch, he waits until the danger is closed out before moving back into his position.

"We're a good team. He's had more shots per game than any striker in the league and more touches in the opposition box. All that comes from us being a good team and the supply we give him.

"He's the guy who makes the difference at the end. He's the best forward in the league and it's another example tonight of him showing that."

Thought he was poor tbh.

I thought he did what he had to do, and didn't do much wrong, it'll take him time to settle, but again didn't think he looked out of place 🤷‍♂️

He’s obviously spot on statistically but I feel we could create more for Shankland tbh.

No Idle Talk

That was yet another really classy goal from Shankland tonight. The volume of goals he is scoring is similar to what he did last season but the quality of the goals he is scoring has really gone up. He used his body to manoeuvre one defender out the way, then dinked the ball past the second defender, and calmly stroked the ball the past the keeper and into the net. Great stuff. The range of finishes he has in his repertoire is really pretty impressive.

Half his goals were penalties last season, this season they’re nearly all from open play and he is having to score a lot of them out of nothing or from half chances.  He’s gone up a level from last season, no question about that.  Right foot, left foot, headers, inside the box, screamers from outside the box, he’s got the lot.

Can't be critical of the team and the strategy this season as we are so far ahead of the others in the race for 3rd but my god if we did not have Shankland....

A fairly comfortable win and outstanding goal from Shanks. Made that out of nothing really.

What a run we're on. Got the auld scum both in next 4 games. Will be a really good guide of where we are.

Indeed. He must be a nightmare to defend against because anywhere on the pitch from about 30 yards in he is capable of putting the ball in the net out of nothing.

Obviously he is a huge asset to Hearts but we have also been really good for him. His game has either gone up a couple of levels since he joined us or else playing for us has given him the confidence to unlock what he always had inside him. Either way it's been a relationship that has been hugely beneficial to both the player and the club.

Agree. Thought Hoff and Beni were decent and kept the shape and discipline well. Fraser is going to have to do a lot more if he's any ambitions to stay here for next season. His first start though so he's got some time to get going.

Just back from the game. An efficient, professional performance without much flair. What a fantastic run we are on and another win on the road. Not got anything to complain about. Well done Hearts, onwards and upwards.

The football looks more assured and the team just looks tougher which you really need in our league. Kent has been a massive signing in that regard but in truth there has been improvement across the whole squad physically and mentally. I know he has not hit the heights of his initial spell but we are a better team with Beni in it and Nieuwenhof is a good foil - his stamina and doggedness for the entire game is something we have missed in recent years.
