We circled Edinburgh for ages tried to land twice, must has beena few metres off the run way and then sharply pulled up. Ended up at Newcastle. A poor steward had been chucked across the plane earlier in the flight. No idea how we were even allowed to leave. I think we were lucky this morning. Our flight to Faro departed on time and arrived 10 mins early. Lovely sunny day here 😬

Malinga the Swinga
It was a bit windy last night. It will be a bit windy tomorrow night. Later in February it will also be windy at some point. In the summer, there is every chance it will be windy. Next winter, we will encounter wet and windy weather. When on earth did we start panicking and cancelling everything because it's windy? It's Scotland we live in, been stormy at winter since I can remember and that won't be changing soon.

Homes and businesses flooding etc. I was out seeing power lines / BT lines etc today and although not as bad as Arwyn it’s not nice out there. Strongest winds in 20 years. 4 people dead. 10s of thousands of homes without power. Planes diverted to different countries. Trees uprooted and lying across roads. Folks bins and outdoor furniture ending up in another street. Trampolines through car windscreens. "It was a bit windy"

Not 90MPH winds ripping off folks roofs and forcing entire rail networks to shut down. So aii it was newsworthy

Agreed. We get shit like that here about 30 odd times a year. Much stronger winds though (The Mistral). Sometimes they close the promenades, sometimes the trains are (slightly) disrupted. Sometimes, we even hear the wind outside the window whilst in bed. Oh, no! Folk still swim in the sea, they walk along the seafront, they brave the elements. Cade
Fair play to Embra Coonsil. Very early this morning they had a decent sized team in my neighbourhood picking up all the rubbish that had been scattered around the place and all the fallen leaves too. Place actually looks clean. Maybes we should have big storms more regularly if this means the streets actually get cleaned for once.

So we get pretty bad storms every 10 years or so and the number of deaths has reduced pretty much each time. Possibly as a result of better early warnings and advice? I'd hardly say the country has came to a standstill. A day of train disruption and some planes diverted due to literally not being able to land. A couple of road and bridge closures where vehicles had already been blown over. All seems fairly standard and measured. S
