Edinburgh - here we come...

Boof

Recommended Posts

...from 27 July to 4 August.

So what can we do?

Me, Mrs Boof and two boys (15 and 3).

Know about the usual stuff, but wondering if there's anything new on?

Already got EGM, race night, book launch and Hull game pencilled in.

Got Google Earth fired up, but can't find pitches in Silverknowes for JKB FC game. :P

Is Cramond Isle walkable to or did I just make that one up?

Anybody been to East Links family park in East Lothian?

It is indeed, best check the tide times before you head out there though, don't wanna get stuck.

Thanks folks - that's another two on the suggestions list.

Presume there's a fairly wide tidal window to get to/from Cramond Isle?

And that tide tables are posted nearby...or is that asking too much?

One more question - anybody know if the Cooncil (or whomever) do parking permits for temporary residents?

Balerno to Leith along the Water of Leith pathway is a nice walk and some good pubs and restaurants in Leith

Not that I'm aware of - and permits are area specific, not all-Edinburgh.

If you're staying with folk who don't have a permit (and they agree), you could use their allocation, pay the minimum six months up front - and then claim a refund. Would allow you to park in a specific area, but if you're out and about during the day it's a waste.

Not worth the bother IMHO.

You've got a safe window of 2.5 - 3 hours on either side of low-tide to cross and spend time on the island: the tide tables are published daily in the 'The Scotsman' and, no doubt, on the internet. Another fantastic outing from the same area is to walk from the Cramond Brig pub (the wee Cramond ferry doesn't operate any more) to South Queensferry through the Dalmeny estate. A great walk on a nice day.

Also well worth doing are walks in The Pentlands - even just up the valley, on the road from Flotterstone - or the Hermitage of Braid, or round Corstorphine Hill and Clermiston Woods.

Salisbury cCrags & Arthurs Seat.

Also if you walk across the Braids Golf Course you can often find magic mushrooms along the side of the sixth or 7th fairway. The long hole that goes down the hill.

Boof, we are moving into our house on July 28th so you could aye help, its about 1 mile from Musselburgh Racetrack so nice and handy for you going there later in the week :-)

Beer and snacks provided, sorry no full meals or spirits;)

But seriously, if you fancy a wee 1 hour drive (or so) get up to Craigtoun Park in St Andrews, its very good for kids and great for a picnic. The 3 year old will have more fun than the 15 year old

Excellent - might try Nelson at 1pm to see the time signal in operation.

Scott could be worth a go, though I seem to recall the steps are a bit of a squeeze near the top.

Also noticed the brass rubbing centre nearby.

Scotsman publishes high tide for Leith...presumably Cramond will be no more than a smidgen different?
