You need to have a serious think about why it is that we’re the only club driving for this. Not one other big club on our side. Not one positive comment from the SPFL board or from Doncaster. Not one media outlet championing our case. Not one comment from government. We are in our own here. We’re begging and pleading with them to accept the proposal because if they don’t we’re looking at taking 100k off each and every one of them if we win and that puts 20 of them out of business at least.

I’ll quote you from Monday night, James.

SPFL clubs warned failure to thrash out reconstruction will trigger Scottish football self destruction

Scotland's clubs will be warned next week that failure to thrash out league reconstruction in time for next season will effectively press the self destruct button on the professional game in this country.

Record Sport understands SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster is bracing himself for a series of monumental meetings next week - beginning on Monday when he will hold crisis talks with all 12 top flight clubs.

And Doncaster will attempt to hammer home the message that a radical overhaul of the current league structure - and in particular the lower three leagues - is no longer an option but an absolute necessity.

The move comes after an SPFL board held an emergency meeting to study a reconstruction ‘discussion paper’ put forward on Tuesday by Hearts owner Ann Budge.

Thursday’s meeting of the Hampden top brass also centred around growing concerns over next season’s Championship after a number of second tier clubs admitted earlier this week that they cannot afford to start up the next campaign behind closed doors.

And now Doncaster will have to spell out the dire consequences of any failure to agree on a new format in time for football’s big re-start.

Under the league’s own rules, unless a new look structure is agreed by 75 per cent of all 42 clubs, season 2020/21 will automatically to go ahead as planned before the game was forced into lockdown by the coronavirus pandemic.

That means clubs from the Championship down would be expected to fulfil all 36 league fixtures. And any club which could not play their games could then be faced with the ultimate threat of expulsion from the SPFL

One source told us: “These are going to be very difficult conversations but that’s just the reality of the situation Scottish football now faces.

“Doncaster will meet with the Premiership clubs on Monday to discover if there is any consensus among them for what Ann has proposed, in terms of a 14 team top division for next season.

“If they can’t agree on that then everyone will be back to square one. And that’s when the chief executive is going to have to explain the next steps to clubs in the lower three tiers. As things stand, three leagues of ten clubs is not going to be possible.

“Some Championship clubs have already made it clear they’ll be in no position to play a full league campaign. But unless 75 per cent of all clubs can agree on some form of reconstruction, then the rules state it must be a 36 game season.

“If any club can’t fulfil its own fixtures it would become a disciplinary issue - one of the most serious disciplinary issues there is - and it would carry unlimited punishments.”

Budge has championed the temporary creation of a new three tier 14-14-14 set-up but has indicated she would also support a 14-14-16 structure.

However, Record Sport understands she is likely to encounter stiff resistance from a number of top flight clubs - with six of them already sinking a previous reconstruction proposal earlier this month.

And we believe a significant amount of Championship clubs are also against the plan which would initially catapult Inverness Caley Thistle into the Premiership - only for four of the remaining clubs to face possible relegation to their third tier in two year’s time.

But our source added: “What Ann Budge was really calling for was for clubs to confront the reality of the situation which Scottish football now faces. She has highlighted the need for flexibility at this time and she is absolutely correct.

“There is no other option now but to be flexible in the face of this crisis in order to protect as many clubs as possible.”

An SPFL spokesman said last night: “The board has now received Ann Budge’s paper to clubs on the topic of league reconstruction.

“As these matters are ultimately decided by clubs via a democratic process, we will now facilitate a series of divisional meetings, starting with the Premiership on Monday, at which all 42 clubs will have the chance to discuss the proposals in detail.

I'm left with the conclusion that the lower league clubs are in a group-think.    Or to be more accurate,   a group-confusion.

Everybody seems to gravitate around a central position of doing nothing to help anyone.    Everybody seems to be determined to avoid the appearance of facilitating the agenda.

It might not be a direct opposition to Hearts.     It might just be dumb contraryism.     Our size and the ceaseless unhelpful publicity doesn't help,   but it might just be people determined that the narrative requires their own,  unique,   eureka moment,  inspirational input,   instead of applying an open minded,   dispassionate logic to their decisions.

They might all be extinct soon... but hey... they'll make damn sure they shape the future for the worse before they go.

We’ll not be going to court for fight for Partick or Stranraer or Rangers or anyone else. We’ll not be going to court to have any decisions reversed and there won’t be a 2 week court case with dozens of SPFL blazers being named and shamed and grilled and warned about perjury etc etc.

We’ll be going to court purely for compensation having begged pleaded and cajoled for unfair damaging decisions to be reversed.

Ann Budge specifically indicated we’d be seeking compensation if reconstruction fails. It’s in her presentation and it states how much we’d be looking for. It says nothing about going to court for any other reason.

Anyone expecting a courtroom drama with Tom Cruise asking General Doncaster repeatedly if he ordered a code red  is going to be in for a serious disappointment. It will be a 4 hour hearing at most with the bullet points presented and debated between QC on both sides and a judge. I highly doubt anyone will be called to give evidence of any sort and if we win it will be appealed, probably more than once.

Reality check time

Do you have any legal knowledge and experience to base your dogmatic views on ?

The way I read it is the lower league teams want their cake and eat it, looks awfy like a number of them just don’t have the cash for behind closed doors and don’t have the fan base to help support them  so they want reconstruction but just not yet as it doesn’t help them but still want their place at the top table waiting for them when they can play games, in the meantime they are looking for handouts over and above furloughing, If they aren’t able to play when it opens up they then loose all their rights those able to field teams are put into 1 2 or 3 leagues depend on teams available, take it from there

Ther are several options.

Money to FOH means no VAT to be paid by the club when FOH hand the money over so on the face of it is best way of doing it, plus you get 1.5 Maroon points.

Another alternative apart from buying more merchandise etc if, and it is a big if,  we can get fans in to the stadium on an on social distancing basis then you could buy an adult and a child tickets and donate to  @Dagger Is Back and his 'Donate a Ticket, initiative who will find a good home via his school contacts.  The advantage to you of buying additional home tickets is that you will get some loyalty points you are missing out on on not going to away games.

Although due to these  unprecented times we might all need to check with  @Dagger Is Back how feasible this is going to be.

As regards the social distancing in the Stadium will families from the same household be able to sit together ?

On the face of it, this seems like recognition that shit has hit the fan and SPFL is fast approaching decision day. Clubs will no longer be able to just faff about and hope things will turn out okay. When Doncaster has these robust conversations, he has to make them face reality.

Given the quality of 'journalism' in the Daily Record I wouldn't give too much attention to this, unless their 'source' is Peter Lawwell.

The interesting bit is "But unless 75 per cent of all clubs can agree on some form of reconstruction, then the rules state it must be a 36 game season.".  Unfortunately the article doesn't quote the rule(s) in question.  My gut feel is that this is a lazy journalist being fed a line and not checking the facts.

we wrote of their views when they initially signalled the league would end early.  We know the way this works now - if celtic, or rangers and Celtic are in favour of reconstruction then the screw will be tightened until the wee clubs do what they are told.

it does seem to me that reconstruction is now more likely, in fact certain in some form..

Been through this before chum. Many times. Having a more circumspect opinion and covering bases and playing devils advocate more than once doesn’t mean I’m not a Hearts fan. I imagine I’ve been to more Hearts games than 90% of the members of this board

Chum.

Hearts as a club could take it out the fans hands by refusing away tickets .

Giving any reason they want .

Fans safety  , Not taking them on fans advice , not taking them cause you lot ****ed us over .

Its the only thing those goons of chairmen would understand, hitting them in the  pocket .

If  the club don't take the lead in it then it's going to be half hearted and pointless imo .

Yes they could refuse to sell them directly to our fans but then our opponents will then sell them on the day to turn ups.  We need to make sure that as few Hearts fans turn up at their little shitehole grounds as possible

If it comes to social distancing being allowed in grounds, then yes households do not distance from each other at present so would not need to elsewhere.

Good points from both of you, folk needing the toilet during the game is the big problem as far as I can see. Four quarters like the NFL?

Couple of things

1) I doubt you have been to more games than 90% of fans on here. Impossible to prove either way though so pointless statement.

2) I am not your chum. Never have been, never will be and never want to be. Prefer to associate with positive people.

Excellent points. Impossible to prove but I know it’s right so I’m fine with posting it. Your aggressive and abusive posting style and your obvious lack of intelligence would suggest to me you wouldn’t be welcome in my social circle either so I’ll withdraw the ‘chum’ part.

Morgan didn’t like the word anyway and it seems he’s some big shit around these parts

we wrote of their views when they initially signalled the league would end early.  We know the way this works now - if celtic, or rangers and Celtic are in favour of reconstruction then the screw will be tightened until the wee clubs do what they are told.

it does seem to me that reconstruction is now more likely, in fact certain in some form..

If the DR story is correct and those clubs are in favour of us remaining in the Premiership (probably because Sky have tightened the screws) then we might get a sensible ending.  However, if the DR story is made up then I'm not sure how those clubs can tighten the screw enough to get a reconstruction vote through.

Would need 8 clubs to vote in favour.

Bar ourselves,  who will want to start?

Possibly Dundee, Morton do. Caley don't think they can as a Championship club

That's true. I'd probably only see Dundee voting against, if anyone. Maybe Inverness if they wanted to use it as leverage for promotion, but that seems unlikely.

Because some teams want temporary (Aberdeen) and some want permanent (Hamilton). This is a clever way of getting round it.

Brexit all over again. The vast majority want to avoid no deal but because there’s no proper consensus on a single alternative, no deal will win.  Democracy ****ed all over again.

As regards the social distancing in the Stadium will families from the same household be able to sit together ?

I'll leave that to the football authorities and the SG to thrash out.

It wouldn't be inconceivable that people from same family could sit beside each other.

Hey we could all befriend another family of jambos and share one house.  That could get more in.

All would need to self isolate for in that house initially for 14 days.  My mates have had raging arguements by 6 o'clock in the fans bar let alone trying to cross co-habitate families.

The DR story could be a game-changer. Turns out you can't just choose not to play games.

Those quotes in DR definitely sounds like Doncaster speak.

Furlough rules are not football dependent, but are the same for everyone. It is quite simple, if you are furloughed you cannot work, no training no discussing things with manager, nothing. Answering an email would be deemed as working. The rules are strict to stop abuse of the system, the government are funding it, they cannot have any blurred lines which would encourage employers to get a hand out and work from employees

You are allowed training under furlough.  Although I’m not sure what that mean for footballers as training is allowed, provided that it does not provide services to or for the employer or generate revenue.  It doesn’t generate revenue but would it be seen as providing a service since training takes up most of a player’s working week, unlike a normal job?

This is going to get voted down. Morons have no idea. They simply think we will turn up in numbers just like we did the last time in the championship. No ****ing way. Any hearts fan that turns up at a championship ground other than ICT needs to be taken aside and have it explained to them.

ONLY HEARTS. FOREVER.

You can explain to me but I understand the sentiment already.

I would go and support Hearts though.
