I think you're the last man standing.

It wasn't just that the band's title is another song by another artist but that the band has named itself after that song.

Roxette called themselves after the Doctor Feelgood song; Doctor Feelgood named themselves after a 1960's blues track; ABC named themselves after the Jacksons' song; Deacon Blue after a Steely Dan song; Kooks after the Bowie song; Right Said Fred after Bernard Cribbens' song.

The songs mentioned are, therefore, irrelevant (sorry!)

Others that fit the bill would be Motorhead who named themselves after the Hawkwind song, Motorhead which they then, of course, recorded for themselves, so an answer of Motorhead by Motorhead would have earned double points, as would In a Big Country by Big Country (who, I believe, named themselves after a Talking Heads song and not the film).

So, what Queen track inspired the name of another artist?

all we hear is radio ... ....

Nooooo. Not having that.

They're relevant because you included them, and there's a clear link between them.

...and is it Laydeeee -o - Ga Ga ?

then the roxette song would be wrong, it would have to be "the look" as that reached the highest chart position in the uk (no1) compared to it must have been love (no 3)

this hopefully is an easier one, what connects the following artists, try and add an artist that fits

1- bad religion

2- they might be giants

3- belle and sebastian

4- damn yankees

5- kool and the gang

I only know the songs of one of the groups in your first list (it should be two but I can't think of any names) but if Talk Talk works, does Bad Company join the list? (Avoids mentioning one act already mentioned in this thread...)

Pretty sure this was on Only Connect a while ago. Does Big Country qualify?

Time for another theme?

This is one that even @ri Alban would probably get if I started with more than three clues. I'm adding in a fourth for Boof (although if you'd guessed it, @Boof, I'd have bounced it on a technicality).

1. Hit me with your Rhythm Stick - Ian Dury and the Blockheads

2. Hold on Tight - ELO

3. Should I Stay or Should I Go? - The Clash

4. The Last Laugh of the Laughter - Travis

Boof. Circumstances - Rush

As before, come up with a sixth song/artist

Posted

thats a good one, if i have it right

you are turning into the daft punk version of @Boof

Psycho Killer - Talking Heads

If I'm right Circumstances would definitely have been in there :D

How's about Force Ten from...you've guessed it...Rush?

I got the link I think but couldn't think of a song, a more serious suggestion would be Christine and the Queens - Tilted.

I thought you'd got the brief. Apologies.

All bands took their names from songs by artists.

Right Said Fred is everyone's favourite Bernard Cribbens track,  etc.

You see?

Whoops - my mistake. It was the @milky_26 one I was bamboozled by. Bad Religion, They Might Be Giants etc...

I might have to say no on the same technicality on which I'd bump Rush.

 It's similar.

TMBG have a song called TMBG

Talk Talk have a song called Talk Talk

Etc.

I'll explain why I'm unsure about Rush later.

Psycho Killer is correct.

I'm listening to it just now. Arm twisted, I'm saying yes.

I know nothing about the Butthole Surfers. Are they big fans of Shepshed Dynamo?

Well it has to be a yes doesn’t it, unless you want a more specific thing. Definitely ticks the obvious box.
The Buttholes plough their own path in life.

I’ll also offer up Acadian Driftwood by The Band as it’s less contentious. I just couldn’t resist getting the Butthole Surfers into the quiz.

Which means I'm being a little bit harsher in applying the technicality than if they'd been from, say, Montreal.

But I'm still applying it. And would apply it to Runrig as well.

I'm not ashamed; I have no regrets. I selected a theme for which anything by Rush couldn't possibly be an answer :D

Do you know any of the songs listed so far? Here's another few:

Michelle - The Beatles

Wooden Heart - Elvis Presley

Games Without Frontiers - Peter Gabriel

Vertigo - U2

Viva Forever - Spice Girls

My Cherie Amour - Stevie Wonder

It's to do with the songs, almost all to do with the songs.
