connlach
I think the tiers are a shambles so this is no defence. Just to say though that I live in aberdeen area and the spread is very focused on certain outbreaks and there isnt real evidence of community spread. The political leaders have also strongly opposed any move to tier 3 after aberdeen was so poorly treated earlier this year. Trust me the snp are deeply unpopular in the north east just now. I do agree though Edinburgh should be tier 2.
steve123
She has mucked it up with the tiers to be honest and is now trying to justify her actions. I get the decisions are not easy but as I have said before she needs to take the public with her and from the reaction today ( and not just on kickback) I think she has finally lost a number of them some of whom have been SNP supporters for years. Jambo-Jimbo
1 hour ago, CJGJ said: The Oxford/AstraZeneca Covid vaccine is safe and effective, giving good protection, researchers have confirmed in The Lancet journal. Most in the study were younger than 55, but the results so far indicate it does work well in older people too. The data also suggest it can reduce spread of Covid, as well protect against illness and death. The paper, assessed by independent scientists, sets out full results from advanced trials of over 20,000 people. Regulators, who will have seen the same data, are considering the jab for emergency use. But there are still important questions about what dose to give, as well as who it will protect. When the interim trial results were made public in a press release about a fortnight ago, the researchers reported three efficacy levels for the vaccine - an overall effectiveness of 70%, a lower one of 62% and a high of 90%. That's because different doses of the vaccine were mistakenly used in one part of the trial. Some volunteers were given shots that were half the planned strength in error. Yet that "wrong" dose turned out to be a winner. Oxford/AstraZeneca Covid vaccine 'dosing error' explained Fantastic news, this one could be the real game changer, simply because it's cheap and easy to store, meaning every country in the world can afford it and store it easily in a normal fridge. Over to the regulators now.

Less than a week before Christmas easing, where you can travel where you want. Even with a bit of kickback about today’s decision, I find it hard to see a way it moves to tier 2 this side of the year, Would be interesting if Edinburgh made it to Level 2 a few weeks ago whether they would be moving it to Tier 3 just because it's Christmas time. Hope they get voted out next year but honestly can't see it.

redjambo
1 minute ago, **** the SPFL said: cheers interesting No problem. In saying that, it does get a bit complicated in some areas. As far as I know, for example, Orkney and Shetland covid-positive patients requiring specialist hospital treatment are flown to Aberdeen, while some Argyll covid-positive patients needing specialist treatment are transported to Greater Glasgow, or at least they were at one point. Of course, I could be wrong about this. I would imagine in these cases however that when the Tiers are being decided, the "local" hospital beds and intensive care beds indicators would refer to the actual location(s) where the pool of such beds are available and regularly used for a council's residents, whether "local" or not. That in itself can get complicated though - if someone gets seriously ill from Covid then the idea would be to get them to the nearest bed available, no matter which NHS board or council area it is in, or I would hope so anyway. So, the official "pool" of beds may not equate exactly to those which will be used in critical situations.

She seems to have an attitude against alcohol consumption which goes further than just a desire to keep people healthy and safe. Makes me think that she, or someone close to her, may have suffered some bad experiences as a result of someone having a drink problem. I can easily live without pubs and restaurants, but the damage to Edinburgh’s, and Midlothian’s, economy is going to be massive if some kind of workable arrangement can’t be made to help them trade. It’s fairly obvious that she doesn’t trust Glaswegians not to come through to Edinburgh for open pubs, when their pubs are closed.

On Friday both Midlothian & South Lanarkshire will be in tier 3 and the Borders will be moved down to tier 1, which just proves that we should have been in tier 1 many weeks ago because there was no need for us to be in tier 2.
