Bit early but I'll go for the semi finals as

Wales v South Africa

Australia v New Zealand

(Sorry Barack)

Too early. Especially as I don't think Wales will respond well to being clear favourites in their quarter-final.

my evidence being that the referee is standing only a few metres away

Well... my 'evidence' is therefore that Craig Joubert was standing only a couple of metres from where the knock-on happened. Penalty correctly awarded, well done Australia.

That is the logic of your argument.

What the **** has that got to do with the Samoa game?

Are you unable to admit that you've made a horse's ass of yourself of Wales-Belgium DVD proportions so that you have to try and pick a fault in my argument that was being generous to you?

Fair enough how about this for evidence - what you think you saw didn't ****ing happen.

Jambo in Japan

A typhoon has been forecast over Kobe/Hyogo for the latter half of this week. Likelihood is that it will either die down or change direction away from here, but it's been mentioned before that if any of the pool games are unable to be played for a typhoon then they automatically go down as a 0-0 draw.

Ireland play Russia here in Kobe on Thursday night... Again, unlikely it'll happen but imagine being knocked out because of weather.

No doubt he’ll scuttle off for a few months before returning to bless us with his awe inspiring insight into sports psychology, politics, and comparable refereeing decisions.

Crunch game for Scotland.  Lose against Samoa, and the spectre of WC qualifiers against the likes of Romania, Spain and Germany looms.

I like the drums they play (beat?) before each match.

’mon Scotland - I took a day off work for this!

Every good position there is a mistake losing the ball.

3-0 is a fair score.

Bonus point needed.  Two more tries.

Lot better and against a team we don't generally roll-over.

Loss of footing at key times has costs us, as other countries.

Let's get these next two tries and nothing silly at other end.

Considering we usually struggle to beat Samoa by more than 7 points or so, it was a decent performance, bonus point and kept them scoreless.

Amount of handling errors in the humidity was ridiculous though, from both teams but Samoa in particular. Ball must have been like a bar of soap.

Job done. Much better today but Samoan indiscipline gifted us those two second half tries.

Should be relatively straightforward against Russia but, with the crunch game against Japan only 4 days later, I wonder if the pack will be rested next weekend.

Yeah, can see a lot of changes for the Russia game. Might see Russell rested and Hastings given the start too.

Okay, watched the game and as with most opinions, thought Scotland did really well under pressure and testing conditions. Not really up to speed with the qualifying requirements so if we were to obtain a bonus point against Russia, is it then winner takes all against Japan?

Tbf a penalty try is equivalent to the last man tackle. You could argue that we might have got lucky with the first one but that second one was going over the line 100%.

Even with a rested pack, we should be turning the Russians over without issue

Yes.   BP win vs Russia needed.   They don't need to get a BP vs Japan but have to deny them the losing BP.   8 points margin.

Sort of.

Ireland should get to 5 point victories against Russia and Samoa so would go to 16 points.

Best Scotland can do is 15 points if we get 2 5 point victories against Russia and Japan.  We will go to 10 after Russia but I'd be more inclined to say a 4 point victory is best we can hope for so at best 14 points.

Japan are currently on 9 points, 5 point victory over Samoa takes them to 14.

Japan would only need a 1 point defeat to Scotland to get to 15 points and would beat us on head to head.

So we really need to win with a 4 try bonus point win and not allow Japan one by getting 4 themselves, or staying within 7 points.  If Japan do both they go to 16, ahead of Ireland on head to head.

I think.

I was assuming he was on about points.

Realistically, I think we'll both end up on 14. We beat Japan, we go through by virtue of that game.

Japan get a losing BP they have 15...so yeah, would go through. If we don't score 5 tries.

If we win and score 5 points, & Japan also get a BP...we go through due to the head to head win. Be shite on Japan for a 2nd WC in a row...but life's an arsehole.🤷‍♂️
