It was a decent pub in those days. Not a clue what it’s like now, it was closed for quite a long time when the brewery were trying to find a new live in manager. He was sometimes assisted by his pal Davy a police dog handler from Fife in the early days until he got the place civilised. The 80/- ale was VG and as someone said every bit as good as the Diggers. At one point the Doo'cot was S&N's biggest beer selling pub in Scotland. Now owned by Samuel Smith brewery it had a lot of money spent on a refurbishment a few years ago but I don't think that increased business. Used to go to the pub to pick up my old man’s booze allowance he got as an S&N worker and the Doo’cot had a separate off licence entrance. Always had a quick pint when we were there.
