Shooting on Vegas strip

Have had a very different experience this morning possibly because I know a lot of people who live in or near Las Vegas and indeed several (all of whom are fine) were at the concert last night. I actually saw pictures and videos of them at the earlier part of yesterday's festival before I went to sleep so it was pretty shocking to wake to the news and be scrambling around to get updates. Most had already put confirmation on their social media timelines. I've subsequently seen real time videos etc which are just horrendous. Some saw dead bodies so are going to be psychologically effected for goodness knows how long. Few had been able to stay with those they attended with such was the chaos.

I think its safe to say that security entering Las Vegas hotels/casinos will change forever on the back of this nightmare. I've attended various conventions and events with many thousands of people own Vegas and on numerous occasions it has crossed my mind that it is a sitting duck for a terrorist or mass shooting situation. Now its happened. Whether at long last there is any move towards gun reform who knows but there damn well should be. Very very few American's I know believe that legislations shoudn't be tightened and changed massively even if the basis of the 2nd Amendment remains in place. There is simply no reason for people to have access to the types of weapons used to massacre these innocent people.

I'm the same, been to 5 or 6 conventions in Vegas and have always thought it would be easy to do something if you were that way inclined. I was at a conference in Atlanta in May with 10,000 people at the Georgia convention center and no bag checks were carried out at all.  Similarly, i'm flying out to Anaheim tomorrow morning for a 3 day company meeting with 2500 people and i wonder what the security will be like there given what's just happened.

Sympathies to your friends who might not be injured but have to deal with the aftermath of this.

ISIL also claimed responsibility for the casino shooting in the Phillipines that turned out to be a gambler with huge debts, a drinking problem and a grudge against the casino.

They claim responsibility for everything. Very rarely is a link found.

First paragraph is true.

Both sentences in second paragraph are flat out false.

What a nightmare.

I started to look and couldn't go on.

I heard about a woman telling people in the front row they were all going to die 45 minuets before the shooting started. I went looking for proof of that and found a video of a woman telling a reporter about it and saying it freaked her out so much that she left there and then. I started to think about who that woman was, maybe a maid in the hotel that had seen something therefor they needed to find her. I looked to see what was being said about her and came across pictures claiming to be of the woman that was with the shooter taken in Dubai and it all became white noise.

No one should go to a concert and not make it home again. There are some evil, disgusting individuals out there.

Sad as this atrocity is there will never be a  change to the public ownership  of guns, or a stricter gun law in America, outwith the constitutional right to own one, the  reason is i feel is  the multi-billion dollar  business of gun and ammunition sales.

There are some very powerful gun lobbyists  in the US senate , what will it take for them to  realise that human life outweighs politics , that there should be tighter restrictions on gun ownership.

Sad , so sad, that so many have died and also those family members who have lost love ones.

The human condition eh, from political , constitutional and business perspectives one day the respect for  human life will come first and self preservation will rule the day no more.

They may very well get the message that human lives outweigh politics. They will always believe the dollar bill outweighs human life.

The crowd fled at the sound of gunshots.

Imagine the deaths if the shooter had a silencer, which the NRA wants to make easier to get.

Point scoring isnt a great idea.

And at the distance fired a silencer would have been less effective.

Edit although apparently not in modern suppressors for rifles.

Sorry are you saying the woman who police say isnt a suspect as she was out the country was in fact in the country and warning people before the event ??

I expected better from her. It's like she's saying it's cool to own an automatic gun but a silencer is too much.

I know this might sound a bit trite, but the fact that there wasn't a silencer allowed folk to know when he was reloading and give them a chance to seek cover during those reload periods. Of course, there were also sounds coming from the ricochets...

Trump will at least breath a sigh of relief as this will take some of the recent heat off him for the recent disasters response. It will also unite a huge percentage of the country as they stand and sing the national anthem at next weeks sporting events.

Good luck to any black males who kneel this Sunday afternoon.

i know trump is the epitome of evil even surpassing someone killing or maiming hundreds of people but to say he will be breathing a sigh of relief over this atrocity descends to new lows in the trump witch hunt

I doubt Trump will be breathing a sigh of relief. Not only do I believe he will be as horrified as the rest of us, but I also don?t think he gives a flying **** about the heat he has been getting - I think he laps it up.

So black football players shouldn't take a knee in protest at the institutional racism in the USA because a white bloke shot up a country concert?

Ok then.

Rather there will be more of a backlash this week if they dishonour the flag after such a tragic event.

Safe to come back in?

What?s this all about?

Anthony Zurcher ? @awzurcher

Press Secretary Sanders on why Trump pushed Muslim ban after Orlando shooting but won't talk policy now: "There?s a difference between being a candidate & being president"

Orlando was on 5/6/2017.

Trump was inaugurated on 20/1/2017.

So, he was President, yes?

Am I missing something?

Genuinely.

Not sure. Depends on what you are referring to? Which shooting on the 5th June?

Coincidence for me. Saying 'i'll kill you' or 'you are going to die' is quite a common thing for someone to say during an argument.

Genuine question.

How many of these horrific events have been stopped or curtailed by a member of the public carrying a gun shooting the perpetrator?

Thats part of the pro gun lobby argument isn't it?

A question often asked. Hard to tell. Probably not that many, vs. the times someone has succeeded with a mass shooting.

Here is an example from last week, though.

Correct although my point still stands. When a certain person is upset with someone or a group of people, they could say very stupid things like either of the above statements.

27 on Wednesday.....27 on Thurs......and so on......

Interesting development..   Makes the case for stricter gun controls and deeper vetting of those applying for a firearms  licence.

It seems the mass murderer?s father was an armed bank robber who was on the lam from the feds for years.

Does that mean you have to tar the rest of the family with the same 'mentally ill' brush?

No it doesnt his father committed crimes nearly 50years prior, sensible laws restrict based on better definitions than that.

No.

And if it was, I doubt a 64-year old white guy shooting up a country music concert would be part of it.

Murder.

Almost daily.

Its a tactic through the internet.

Spread by fascists.

Religious fascists

Racist fascists.

Murder is also practiced by our governments.

On an industrial and sophisticated level.

And until we stop trying to justify it on a left v right measure then as peter says we deserve all we get.
