Add Spiers Bar to the list. Apparently taken over by Montpelier lot, whoever they are.

Wasn't one I went in no big deal to me but was one of the few "boozers" left in that area.

Mind that's me judging it by clientele rather than actually using the place

My old man will be spinning in his grave. Always a good working man's pub with the standard bookies next door.

Have we really reached page 7 and no mention of The Rainbow?

First pint was in the Cottar’s Howff on Rose Street.  It was near the back of Jenner’s if memory serves.

Cottars Howff was opposite Ladbrokes in Rose Street, just off Hanover Street.  There was Milnes on Hanover Street (down the wee stairs) and they took over the Cottars so, as you know, Milnes have an entrance on Rose Street too.

I think you went downstairs to enter the CH back then.

Haymarket Bar and Haymarket Station Bar were previous names for the Caledonian Ale House

Cotters Howf was also the Bon Accord at one time.

I loved The Rainbow when I stayed in Corstorphine in the early 90’s. The manager was ex-Hearts man Dave something. Even the McEwans Lager tasted good!

I think it's getting made into flats.

Was a bit of a mental place in the end.

Lassie that had it now has old Minders. Not sure what it's called. I'm advised it's best avoided.

I believe the Robin's Nest was changed in the last few years. Bar and lounge switched places. Not been in to confirm or critique but might pay a visit the next time I play Liberton GC.

Never knew. As I said it was someone telling me so wasn't sure on all it's accuracy but the Libby ended up quite mental.

The old Minders is a Hibs casual place I was told. Might be way off the mark though as it's all just stuff being passed on.

Drove along Causewayside other week and noticed The Victoria was getting gutted.

Closest pub to where I live now having moved back to Edinburgh 5 years ago. What was a rough and ready mans pub, my dad's local, is now deserted most of the time. A Celtic supporters bus leaves from it and the Centurion Hearts bus is a distant memory. When busy the jukebox is turned up to the max and daytime drinkers sing along and fall about the bar. When we were in a couple of weeks back a shoplifter arrived having obviously visited a chemist / perfume counter and proceeded to sell his wares openly around the pub. That was bad enough but then regulars asked if the barstaff had any bags to take their purchases home, and were given them, Mrs F took a strop and decided we were leaving.

Two things that made me laugh and aghast in equal measure from your post:

Not related to pubs, but you reminded me of a fare in the taxi last week. I dropped a woman in Niddrie in the early hours of the morning and there was still two left in the back. As we were driving through the estate in the dark, a boy appears from nowhere and runs in front of my taxi. I tried to get past him, but he kept blocking me. I put the window down and he asks me if I want to buy some perfume. I didn’t buy any, but the two women in the back did?
