Is it not still that now?

Or, am I getting mixed up with another corner place, near the old Odeon?

In the 50's and 60's I suspect half the crime in Edinburgh was planned in the Rat Trap. The boyos would stand on the steps of the shops on the north east corner of Nicolson Street at Hill Place, resplendent with the succesful in their Crombie overcoats. Then from 12 to 3 over to the pub, back on the steps until 5.00pm. Despite the rough crowd I don't recall a lot of calls there,  probably self policed.

Trying to remember the old name of holyrood tavern, just around the corner from the bottom of st Marys street.....

Remember as a kid hiding under the tables in there when the police called around, about 10pm......early 70s.

T's Rest was one of my first under-age pubs, upstairs, if I remember. Also, across the street from "Bruce's" record store.

Does anyone remember the name of a pub that was in Bread Street?

Coming from Lothian Road it was before you came to McLarens the locksmith.

Thanks for looking Stuart.

My mate and I were in the vicinity on Saturday and he said he had his stag do in a pub there.

It was roughly were a linoleum shop was.

I have a vague memory of it.

Maybe old age playing tricks.

Pretty sure there wasn’t a pub on the Lothian Road side of the locksmith shop. Beyond the locksmiths, apart from Tipplers, the only place I can recall, before carrying on up to the West Port, was The Blue Blazer.

If I could have one pub in Edinburgh opened up for a day it would be the Barnton pub/hotel.  Pre smoking ban too.

No bother.

I'm absolutely sure I'm right about Bread Street. There was a bar after Tipplers, just round the corner to the left heading towards Castle Terrace (opposite the Blue Blazer) but I can't recall its name. Beside a wee shop that used to sell some football memorabilia.

Was the Garrick a different pub from Footlights which sits on Spittal St opposite Blue Blazer? I think the Footlights was one of the Firkin pubs in the 90s.

I'd also forgot it became Footlights!

Did you just ask the taxi driver to take you to the After 8? No need for street names if that's the instruction? :clyay:

The Scotsman Bar at the top, beside the old arcade is the only one I can name in Cockburn Street  apart from the Malt Shovel in which I worked many moons ago. The MS was owned by a chap that used to run the Cafe Royal.
