Paterson at Cardiff ( merged )

Callum Paterson’s biggest problem is that he doesn’t have a settled position.

He has weaknesses to his game but I’m sure he’s never claimed to be the best, however he has great strengths too.

Ive always believed, and continue to believe that Callum Paterson is a targetman forward and that’s the position which suit his strengths.

I think he he needs to go out on loan and learn that position, a position where he would flourish.

He’s great in aerial duals, good leap and times them well, he’s strong, he’s brave, he’s a decent finisher, has decent pace and has the knack of being in the right place in the opposition box to score. That’s where he should play and that is what Scotland are needing as well. A modern day Sandy Clark, Joe Jordan type forward.

People with differing opinions. Bob's put up his opinion based on stats. That's been rebutted by stats. Bob think Paterson (& Sir Gio now) will flounder. A lot of us think otherwise.

People don't agree all the time. Who's attacking whom? What's your opinion on Paterson's chances?

I think Sir Gio will be ok. He's kept his place on this forum for some time now so can't see him floundering ;)

As for CP, he showed he could be in important part of a promotion-winning Championship team in his first season down there, in a position he'd never played before. We all know how hard he works so I'm sure he'll be working on all the technical things to try and get that side of his game up to scratch. Bang average players like Jon Walters can have a decent few seasons in the Premier League so no reason why Paterson can't find a place if he keeps developing as he has over the past few seasons.

That's the nature of a fans forum, when your viewpoint goes against what the majority think then it will probably feel like you are being rounded on but that's not to say that it is orchestrated. If it was, then we would have a problem.

Sometimes it is.

It's good forward play by the impressive Callum Paterson.

Having a good game apparently.

you mean they have spent less than the rest more likely.Any manager worth his salt would target specific teams for points.

But what percentage of tackles attempted did he complete successfully?

Whatever it was it wasn't enough. He can't have been playing anyway as he's not a Premier League player.

Away you go man, common sense tells you that a relegation battle is on its way as soon as the season starts. He has to be tackling the bottom dregs from the previous season + the other teams who went up with them to gather points. He writes off the rest of the teams as a forgone conclusion. So must ensure he has a solid goalkeeper and defence.

Best case scenario, Paterson establishes himself as a EPL level player, Cardiff get relegated, another EPL buy him and we get our 15%.

Think warnock played funk up front

He did and led the line well according to Shearer.  Maybe Gary Locke was right.

That was a sclaf and a half from him today. ☺️

Still better than his first goal last season which was actually a tackle.  He never looked back after that so here’s hoping he can kick on this season now. Maybe he’ll get a run as a striker now.  Madine has been a total flop and the other forwards haven’t exactly set the heather on fire so far.

Not according to Neil Warnock!  A goal any striker would have been proud of.

Then again, any striker probably doesn't mind sclaffing the odd goal!

He knew what he was doing but didn't catch it right, if he had the keeper would have probably saved it. Hopefully he will gain confidence from his first goal in the top league and go on a scoring spree now. We will hopefully cash in if he moves on in the future.

His strength is an asset if Warnock chooses to play him upfront. Maybe Scotland could do with him up top as well.

It's pretty sad to admit, but I find myself looking out for Cardiff results on a Saturday. Always looking for a wee goal alert that says Callum has scored. Got it today and did a wee jump when I seen it!

I'm so chuffed that he got a goal today, and even more chuffed that he finally got a win. Absolutely amazing for a Hearts lad to be scoring in the Premiership, and hopefully we see more of this in the future (and big transfer fees that come with it!)

Even more happy than Alan Shearer said he was pleased for Paterson scoring on MoTD tonight. Wish he'd highlighted the "ex-Hearts player' but though!

Huge game for him at Anfield on Saturday.  Sort of venue where your valuation can rocket if you get the job done.

Best of luck to him.

Made his European Debut against Liverpool at Tynecastle. Always loved Paterson and his passion and commitment to Hearts were undeniable.

Not as the main striker though. He’s played about five positions already this season for cardiff.

He's done that in 1 game for Hearts (U19's)

Give him a few balls into the box he could well be a match winner for them there.

Probably what they plan on doing actually.

Not a good game for him to be playing up front today.  He’ll likely hardly touch the ball and get dropped next week.  Probably would have been better on bench today and start next home game, unless Warnock has decided to give him a run of games in no9 role.

Liverpool have had at least 80% of the play. Hard to make an impression with those stats.

That’s precisely my point.  Think this is the first big team CP has started against.  Warnock has only been playing him against the bottom half pish so far.  Seems he has decided he’s not a defender, now he’s not a midfielder and hoping he can be a make shift striker.

He's definitely not out of his depth but they're poor today so no service whatsoever.

He's won a few headed balls but they have no oomph. They're tough to break down but will struggle to win games.

just gave up another goal.

Callum struggling. Looks hurt. Could be off at half time.

Every interview you get with Warnock is “we never imagined two years ago we’d be at grounds like this”, “My their bench is deeper than my squad”, “we’re just going to enjoy it”..etc.etc. Alright Neil we get it. But you’re a limited manager and your team is awful to watch ?
