What aspect of free speech do you not understand?  Still greeting about an egg...

You call that video an example of free speech?

The SNP version. Allow someone to speak, but bring in a rent-a-mob to ensure no one is allowed to hear what they say.

Almost a parody of nursey Claire and the MSM aftermath eh?

The SNP blew it last time absolutely by not having a proper policy on monetary arrangements I couldn't agree more.

I'm not SNP though.

As far as it goes I believe there are a few options available I've read a few from respected economists. Tying it to the BOE was a ludicrous idea.

Not just respected economists but think tank economists whom conservative voters could not ignore.

Ive posted more than once solutions to the currency issue.

A complete red herring and i cant believe the snp have not blew it out the water.

Many countries use currencies that are not backed by a central bank .

That invariably means that those nations banks play a safer game based on their capital.

Instead of the risk nature of banks that know they are too big to fail and have the safety net of a federal reserve or a central bank such as BoE.

Borrowing money by any independant Scotland would be assesed on our real value.

The problem for an independant Scotland is not fiscal.

In fact the opposite is true.

We can never truly meet our potential as part of the UK.

The problem is how Scotland looks to achieve this after independance.

And this brings it back to why the snp may find this currency question difficult to deal with.

Because the model for success is one that many Scots would find uncomfortable politically.

apart from the fantasists, nobody in their right mind is gonna vote for a lot of if's and but's and maybies, especially from the mouths of politicians, renowned for lying. if the separatists were to come up with a viable structure of governance then maybe they wouldn't set themselves up as laughable targets. it's really up to them to show some form of credibility to the voters and in 10 years we've had not one iota, until then its open season.

Brexit vote.

People will vote for if buts and maybes if the certainties keep failing to deliver.

free?dom of speech

noun

noun: free speech

  •

the right to express any opinions without censorship or restraint.

Idiot stands on a crate to shout misinformation, crowd attempts to counter, idiot shouts louder.

I think that's free speech in its purest form.

Where's Murphy's right to freedom of speech?

Or is he not allowed it because he's peddling "misinformation '?

You just get worse.

Public heckling maybe.

Throwing eggs?

Not letting him speak at all.

You could barely hear Murphy in that video despite your pal's claim he shouted the loudest.

In the video posted Murphy was exercising his right to free speech.

What I don't get is the amount of Scots using a useless Tory in a red rosette to bash the SNP. It was on his watch, after all, that Scottish Labour gave away most of their votes to "the separatists" and as for true blue Kezia, she is even worse, losing the rest of Scottish Labour voters to the real Tories is inexcusable.

Aye okay.

I don't care who or within reason what the politician is.

By all means have a debate but don't just have a mob shouting them down without listening.

100% this - I remember all the controversy over Nick Griffin appearing on BBC Question Time. It was a brilliant decision to let him appear - everyone on the panel & audience showed Griffin and his party up by 1st letting him speak and then taking apart his arguments.

His actions are if anything worse than the shouters.

Anyway you're suggesting the mob were a unified unit.

If this was free speech in action I assume they all ambled along independently to express their views.

Chucking eggs is wrong, but, who's to say it wasn't someone from his own side who threw the eggs?

Organised demos are not.

He's obviously publicised his meeting point with times on Twitter or something like that. You've got to take the rough with the smooth.

It wasn't the worst behaviour ever but this constant Nationalist denial and deflection gets hard to take.

It could've been, why not? Maybe to create this stereotyping that exists from certain quarters about cyber bullies and what not.

What's to say I couldn't create a fake Twitter account and go about shouting abuse at SNP supporters. It's pretty easy to do and I'm sure it goes on. Same the other way too.

This behaviour isn't exclusive to Nationalists.

The difference is other parties tend to recognise and condemn it rather than deflecting.

The Scottish Resistance stuff and those hecklers were mad. Bad advert for Yes.

Murphy was always a bad advert for the Union.Murphy was always a bad advert for the Scottish/UK Labour Party. Murphy was always a bad advert for what he and the Labour party thought socialism was. Granted Corbyn is trying to bring them back to where they should be but Scottish Labour are struggling big time to get on that bus as evidenced by Murphy, Dugdale and their sole MP Murray.

For the avoidance of doubt I don't blame Blair for Labours demise. Blair was just the inevitable consequence of Labours shift to the right which started with Kinnock as the party were so short sighted after Thatcher they dropped principle after principle in the pursuit of power. That is also the reason that youngsters like you think that Corbyn is from the loony left and really, really took your time to coming round to backing him. You have grown up with an increasingly shifting to the right Labour Party, which enabled the Tory party to move even further to the right creating the mess that we currently have.

The basic principle of having a right leaning party and a left leaning party is so that whoever wins, the opposition should be able to keep them in check so that we don't go too far to the right or too far to the left, therefore remaining close enough to the centre, but when one of those parties changes direction they both move and remain equidistant getting further from the centre with each lurch. I spotted that shift to the right with Kinnock and as a result I spoke to my shop steward and asked for the form to stop part of my dues going to the Labour Party and switched my vote to the SNP. As it's turned out, I was right to do so.

With the above in mind, Corbyn is a start but given the huge opposition towards him in the party, Including the Scottish Leadership which particularly rankles me, Labour still have a long, long way to go before they come anywhere close to bringing this country back to a semblance of the Centre ground let alone shifting us to the left.

When Scotland becomes Independent (to stay slightly on topic) I hope it's enshrined in our Constitution to ensure that the left stays left and the right stays right. It makes for a far better society than everyone being left (as evidenced by the poor attempts at communism so far, I say poor attempts as they weren't really communism, they were all about power and control, right wing communism if you like) or everyone being right (Nazis, no need for an explanation, just pure and utter far right power and control). Learn the lesson of how/why the UK failed.

I never claimed the SNP were left leaning. I stated that Labour lurched to the right in pursuit of power and in so doing the whole UK lurched with them. That is why I switched to voting SNP as I preferred Independence to an ever right leaning UK. I thought there was a better chance for Scotland to remain closer to the centre ground on it's own as the UK was going off keilter. Since Neil Kinnock stood for election the public have had a choice of right or right which is no choice at all. Now that the Labour party rank and file have finally woken up to this it's going to take a long, long time to fix the party, let alone the country.

The SNP are a broad church. It doesn't matter if you are left or right or centre and there are plenty of every hue that want Independence which is the only common ground required and with this common ground they end up the most inclusive party in the UK, which also bodes well for Independence as we have representation from across the political spectrum in the one party to give us the best start before the split into their natural preference. Which reminds me, "career politicians joining a party that doesn't best represent their own personal views need not apply" should also be enshrined in our Constitution.

You're absolutely right on this, other than I think Labour moved to the Right because the general population had and they were unelectable if they didn't.

I don't agree with it but I grew up with Thatcher in power and increasingly her views have become the accepted norm, to the point that a centre -left view from 1979 would seem quite extreme today.
