Tough Draw for Murray - The one time he would have wanted to be in Nadal's half of the draw, given his injury problems, and the one time he gets Djokovic's half of the draw. Will probably have to beat Harrison, Malisse, Bogomolov, Monfils, Tsonga, Djokovic and Federer to win tournament. BBC saying its the first time since 2005 that Nadal and Federer have been in same half of a Grand Slam draw.

End of the day, doesnt matter who he faces, he would have to beat someone like Djokivic in the Semi or final anyway.

Two weeks of mild disinterest begins, although laughing at Murray losing a final is becoming a ghoulish sport!

Hopefully the weather picks up - it's been freaking miserable this week.

Sounds like you might have got your wish Geoff - BBC Radio Scotland GMS reporting live from Melbourne this morning saying Murray had played in 26c in the afternoon at Kooyong in a warm up game

Hopefully James Ward can qualify for the main draw as well. Only has to beat some Dutch guy called Igor Sisling and he'll be there.

And he did it in straight sets.

Up against a Slovak colled Kavcic first then, if through, most likely to be Del Potro.

Not with his draw, he won't: it's the worst of the top four, and there's a major danger of him not making the semis. The same can be said for Federer and Nadal, the latter especially; but not Djokovic, who I can't see past at all.

Djokovic to walk the title, beating Del Potro in the final.

I don't think Murray will be too bothered about his first 4 potential matches. Monfils is nowhere near consistent enough to beat Murray in a slam.

It gets tricky in the Quarters but I think Murray would rather play Tsonga than Del Potro.

I agree Djokovic will probably win but doubt Del Potro will get to the final (he's not yet been past the quarters in Australia). I expect him to lose to Federer in the quarters.

Don't worry: I always overrate JMDP and Monfils and probably always will. Monfils has to do something at a Grand Slam sometime; JMDP at least seems fully fit now, and I rate his chances because Federer and especially Nadal probably won't prove the fearsome obstacles they once did.

Tsonga? A lot of pundits have tipped him to break through and win a Slam this year. You never know what you're going to get with him - but that'd make him a very dangerous quarter-final opponent indeed.

That's the 1st Brit out. Heather Watson just got beat 6-1 6-0 by 3rd seed Victoria Azarenka.

James Ward losing 4-6 1-1 to Blaz Kavcic.

Nadal's quarter appears, to me, to be the best; injuries notwithstanding, I think he'll get through with the least scares or hassles - marginally fewer than Djokovic.

We'll see how the media keep the Nadal comments on Fed near the surface and whether that semi becomes a 'grudge' match. I'm surprised that Nadal's come out with this, though. (A) it doesn't seem to be his style to start bitching about the oppo and, therefore, (B) I think it will affect him more adversely than Fed who is capable of remaining above it all - especially if what Nadal says is true.

The ATP or IBM have launched an upgraded Slam Tracker for the Ozzie. More stats, graphs and analysis than your keenest tennis geek could handle. Love it and I should have booked two weeks of mornings off work!

Two women's matches beforehand = middle of night for you

Due to be around 35 degrees when Murray comes out but it's also windy as hell.

It's actually quite bizzare having this strong hot wind blow in your face.

Conditions on court will be pretty tricky but I'd expect him to be through in straight sets.

Got my Crownies chilling in the fridge for the match .

Tougher than expected, maybe not helped by the conditions, but safely through in 4 and looked stronger as the game went on.

Decent display by the young yank.

I know we often moan on here about the state of BBC match reporting but anyone else find the tennis report a bit on the contradictory? I'm not particularly looking for a seethe fest I just think they can't really make up their minds:

From the BBC:

Andy Murray's progress to the second round of the Australian Open was far from easy as he had to battle against American teenager Ryan Harrison.

The Briton started sluggishly, tamely losing the opening set before eventually prevailing 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-2.

Murray broke early in the second set and from there did not look in danger, securing the win in over three hours.

From the BBC:

What they are getting at is that Harrison was a tenacious opponent who put up a really good fight but never really looked like winning after the first set.

Murray had a bazillion break point chances in the third set but only took one of them.

Harrison was seriously good in the first set - hitting winners from everywhere and chasing down everything.

But he was never going to keep it up and once his level dropped a bit Murray just ground him down.

One to watch out for though.

Compare Murray's to Djokovic's match.

Ultimately, neither was in danger, however for Djoko, that was from the moment he woke up; for Murray, it was from the moment he broke in the second set. Murray was up against a geezer who was chasing every ball down, extending rallies even when they were a lost cause. Murray ended up playing super long rallies to get his points which, I think, would be why they commented that it wasn't easy; he had to play a lot harder than Djoko to remain out of danger.

Incidentally, you should take a look on the Oz Open site at the highlights of Djoko's game to see his match winning shot. Pure exhibition stuff when you're that far ahead but great shot nonetheless.

They played in the 1st round a couple of years ago.

SPOILER ALERT

The embedded clip has 8 and a half minutes of "highlights" two dolly birds engaged in their version of a tennis match.

There is nothing nudey, licky, peeky, panty, touchy, pokey or otherwise tittilating to see in that cilp.

I imagine it would probably be more fulfilling to image search their calendar shots, print out one of each, cut round the outlines, make space on your desk and have your newly made sex puppets perform lewd acts for you by moving them round each other with your spare hand.

Hurr-hurr. Hopefully Murray won't be ROGERED with VASELINE... kyakk kyaakk etc.

Roddick is due to be playing Hewitt some time tomorrow as well. That should be quite a giggle. Not long before they have a rematch at the Albert Hall in the Masters event along side Becker, Cash etc.

Bit of a nobbish thing to do. One - yes - in the absolute heat of the moment, you might chuck one off the floor and destroy it. Doing the one still in its plastic bag is ridiculous. The way he looked up with a huge grin at the end, though, made me wonder if he'd had a bet on with a mate in the crowd.

Felt sorry for Nalbandian, though, when the umpire wouldn't give him a Hawkeye. Nalbandian did well not to give him a kicking.

Straight forward win for Murray this morning and he will play Llodra in the 3rd round.

This morning's win was, I think, the tenth time in a row that Murray has beaten a French opponent. There's no Frenchman can claim the opposite - that he's beaten 10 Scots in a row.

Llodra set to be the 11th? And the draw sets up possibles with Monfils next and then Simon or, more likely, Tsonga in the QF. Only a freakish effort from Gasquet or Mahut would see either bump into Murray in the semis. No Frenchies left in the bottom half of the draw at all.

If memory serves me well (which it rarely does) number 38 was Tsonga in the year that Tsonga made it to the Ozzie final...2008?

Frustrated here as it looks like there are two good matches going on. Roddick v Hewitt may not be the best tennis but I imagine that there's a fantastic atmosphere - Hewitt about to level the match at one set all. Secondly in the Battle of Some Frenchies, Benneteau's doing all he can to throw a two set lead in the battle to avoid any risk of coming up against the man the French media call, "L'Ecossais Indomitable".

All I've got is the live scoreboard (and an expectation that I actually do something productive at my desk).

Looks like Roddick's retired hurt. Shame.

The game is moving on nowadays and Roddick is struggling to keep up. A big serve is not enough any longer and all the injuries are not making it any easier.
