New shirt sponsorship deal

Ok, I'm not in a position to need companies like this, thankfully. However, for the desperate, they are useful, surely. Yes, the interest rates are horrendous, but even that Martin's money tips guy has said they should be used if it otherwise means bank charges. Also, it's on the loanee to contact the company and take a loan, they're not hounded into anything.

Definitely with you on this one. They're designed to be used for short term loans to cover unexpected costs. If people are daft enough to take out something that they won't be able to pay back in time then it's their fault, IMO.

They're not going round chasing people and falsely advertising what they can get.

Only Hearts supporters could create negativity from something so positive, a nationwide known company, sponsors of an EPL team and official broadcasting partner of one of the greatest cup competition's in the world, all publicity for the club!

I for one think its good news.

Mixed feelings, pleased that we have a new sponsor who will be providing at least as much as ukio, but I do feel wonga are only a little better then loan sharks. And as London jambo says, I am sure Hibs fans will be finding great irony in this.

They're a ******* horrible company who prey on desperate and stupid people. Of course it's great that the club is getting some investment but I just can't be excited about these shark *******s being involved in the club.

Jig and PM Boomstick are "on the wonga" with this one. Fairly low rent company IMO, involved in a dubious business and not overly enthused about this. Oh well!

Not an ideal business but better than real loan sharks or the pawn shop . At least they are regulated . There is a need for some for the service they offer . I have worked in Cash Convertors and seeing poor folk put in there kids toys the tv etc for a pittance knowing some wont have the money to get it back was soul destroying not all were junkies .

At least with groups like wonga they will limit amount of short term loans based on ability to pay back ie you have to have some proof of income .

I am ok with the new sponser .

Good news. Looks like we have found a way to sort short term cashflow problems and hopefully they'll give us a better APR than the 400000000000% the non-shirt sponsored plebs get

The Treasurer

People on here have been moaning for years that we should get a new sponsor.

The club go and do exactly that,

So do the good people of JKB congratulate the club on a good bit of business ?

No, of course not, they moan that the sponsor is not "good enough" for us. blink.gif

As long as it's a legitimate, legal company and they are prepared to put good money into the club then they ARE good enough.

Face facts, we're not going to attract the multi-nationals that sponsor the top EPL clubs.

No-one is forcing you to go out and get a loan from Wonga, it's not compulsory.

The only shirt sponsor who's product I have used is Strongbowthumbsup.gif

A lot of people on their high horse regarding this one. If people have a problem with interest rates they could always I dunno, live within their means.

The company offer a useful service and are meant as short term and their interest rates are clearly stated.

More important than any of this. It is good money for the club.

I think you are the only one being overly dramatic, not that it would be the first time either. Is charging 4000% representative APR dubious? Quite clearly there will be a lot of people who think it is dubious, although I can also see the flip side which is that going to a company like this is better than going to a loan shark, they are nonetheless a company who rely upon people's vulnerability.

I think this is a great move for the club, for me it puts us on the map a bit more now. Its been listed already the the competitions and EPL club that wonga are involved in and I cant see what is bad about this new sponsorship. I also think the new shirt will look smashing as long as its not blue like blackpool fc top white and maroon will look smart :)

Moan moan greet greet.

Jeez, TBH the sponsor is the least of my worries about Hearts. They're putting money in, and tbh, it adds a bit more excitement than another year of UKIO, which, btw, folk persistently complained about every season.

Beyond the cash they're giving Hearts, who cares?

"Payday loans". Oh the irony.

But seriously, good news that we actually have a sponsor and well done to Southern et al for making it happen.

If Hearts have the logo on the shirt but the new sponsor are late coming up with the money can Hearts charge them 1% a day?

So by sponsoring Hearts and as Hearts supporters are are we now being forced into using this "horrendous" company? No. So as it is beneficial to Hearts then why so much negativity?

I wouldnt say i was being overly dramatic at all, im a Hearts supporter that thinks the club has struck a great deal, couldnt care what the company that sponsor us do as long as it benefits the club.

Do we think the cash offered was exceptional? If not why didn't the club hold on for a more reputable Co I'm not saying someone like Renault or Strongbow again but FFS Wonga??????:down::down:

I don't think anyone is saying that it's not a good deal for the club and are genuinely upset about that.

It's just they're a horrible company, which is worthy of being mentioned and discussed, seeing as this is a discussion board for HMFC fans.

Also, Jamiej, we can't all be so blindly dedicated as you. You might not care who's pumping money into the club but (although I wouldn't stop them) others do.

Some folk need to calm down a bit. They offered Hearts a good deal that was better than anything else on the table, end of story.

By the reaction of some on here you'd think our new sponsor was paying us in Liberian blood diamonds...

As someone rightly pointed out it's probably Hibs fans being fleeced that has given wonga.com the funds to do this.

In maroon I think that looks pretty smart. Regardless who cares what name is on the shirt it is all about the income. If Wonga want to pay top dollar to be our sponsor then great.

Perhaps it'll look like this?

I must admit, the sponsor name on the shirt is way down on my list of 'things I give a shit about'. Being over the age of 16, I only ever wear my hearts top in the house or when playing 5's so it could have a big picture of Captain Birdseye noshing off Santa Clause for all I care. All I care about is the, ahem, wonga

The Edinburgh outfit have not revealed how much the deal is worth but say it is the biggest shirt sponsorship deal in Scotland outside the Old Firm.

Sold

Well I'd hope so... Given we easily outsell other clubs in terms of kit and and have a higher profile not to mention Europe.

I would be annoyed if it wasn't.

Not sure what to make of this one at all yet, still processing the information and waiting for some sort of epiphany which makes clear all the wonderful benefits that will come with this brand association.

What I do know is that they're giving us money and this is a good thing.

Payday loans: Wonga, best of a bad bunch?

http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/credit-and-loans/loans/article.html?in_article_id=487829&in_page_id=53937

You can read the whole thing but to summarise

Their 'revolutionary approach to short term lending' seems to consist of turning people down who are unlikely to be able to pay the money back.

These precautions may seem rather obvious but the fact that they're seen as innovative tells you a lot about the nature of the competition in that sector and explains the title of the article

They turn down a lot of applications and don't lend large amounts to people they haven't dealt with before and sometimes turn down previous customers, again this is relatively novel.

By reducing the numbers of people who fail to repay them they've been able to offer better terms than their competitors and better IT systems mean that they deliver more quickly, flexibly and efficiently both factors mean they've grown quickly

Interest is about 1% a day which compounds up into alarming annual figures but nobody borrows money from them for a whole year. The maximum length of time they'll extend a loan for is six weeks (that would cost around 50%)

I think people have to realise that payday loans are massively popular.

As Wonga are one of the biggest lenders in this field I think it is a modern and growing brand to be associated with, so well played Hearts. Once again the hibs are in our shadow.

Absolutely spot on. Some people on here need a reality check. The main-line banks almost brought our Nation to its knees and acted like a bunch of crooks*, yet folk are moaning about Wonga.........I know who I'd prefer to sponsor us between RBS and Wonga and it sure as hell ain't RBS.

* Note. I didn't call them crooks.
