My night

Recommended Posts

just thought id tell you about my night. Went to globe for a few pints to watch Scotland. Headed up to liquid rooms after. Had a mare trying to get my driving license out my wallet. Bouncer said I was too ****ed (I wasn''t, seriously), I made a smart ass comment in reply as I was annoyed at not being allowed in, next thing I know I'm in the back of an ambulance. Attacked by the bouncer.

Knocked clean out by the bouncer, and have a broken shoulder and potential head injury. Was in hospital for a few hours, shoulder is absolute agony :(

Fracture clinic tomorrow.

Still in shock, cant get over whats happened. Bouncer has already been charged with serious assault, police have already viewed the CCTV footage.

So sore, scared to go to sleep, some night out.

Your not wrong there mate, god i hate those b******s. Fair enough

its obvious that violence in Central Edinburgh is on the rise but

how can the bar owners justify the increased protection when

some of the guys they hire have a lower IQ not to mention a shorter

fuse than most of the punters they are hired to protect.

Its all to do with ego with these guys they cant be seen to lose face

and that manifests itself physically.

Best thing to do next time is head for the next bar, fair enough youll

be ****ed off but youll be ****ed off without a broken shoulder.:mw_rolleyes:

Nightmate mate. Hope you are better soon.

Im sure they were talking about some law coming out to legislate the hiring of bouncers, as they found the industry to be full of rogues.

Seems there still are a fair few 'Rogue's'

Hope he gets the book thrown at him.

Here they've all got to be registered and have a criminal record check done. Mind you, most of them are Islanders and probably haven't got records in Fiji or wherever.

I used to work nightshift next to a club in town, it got boring phoning the police every other weekend to report to some poor guy getting the crap beaten out of him by the bouncers.

Had to give a fair few statements to the police in defence of guys like you, and recieved the odd threat for it!

Still the Council have not sorted out the problem, I know that Faith got their license taken off them for a pretty long period due their bouncers behaviour, assaulting clubbers, but I cannot think of any other that has been punished.

Personally I'd be getting myself a brief and start pursuing the bar for damages

I reckon the bouncers must be the bars responsibility and they need to be hit where it hurts IE THE BANK BALANCE

I had a similar situation a few years ago where some bouncer in the bar next to the Gilded Balloon banjoed my wee brother for no reason (my bro's about 7 stone soaking wet)

Tried to report it to L & B's finest, only to be told I was ****ed and to F Off (I was completely sober at the time)

I hate bouncers (and I used to be one)

Take em to the cleaners pal, I knew a guy that got punched once by a bouncer that ended up with 6 grand in criminal injury payments .

With the police report and the hospital record you cant fail with a claim.

Buffalo Bill

(Apart from twice recently) I've stopped going to nightclubs now as I can't be bothered with the crap music and the hassle getting home.

Bouncers?

Never had any hassles but I've seen and heard them abuse their position of power many times. I get the impression that many of these guys have deep-rooted relationship problems.

Re the OP.

Very sorry to read about your misfortune. Go get yourself a lawyer and sue the balls off the bouncer and his employer.

Thats mental, but not too rare. I got in a bit of a situation with a bouncer outside the circus casino a few months back...even though he was off duty! Things snowballed a bit after a fall out with the casino manager (refused to pay out a full win on a technicality to my mate).

We stood outside for a bit speaking to the bouncers, who were quite light hearted about it all except one. I said to my mate that some bouncers are on huge ego trips. Next thing the guy standing beside us (out having a fag) got all upset with me for saying that, and proceeded to try and goad me into a square go...but obviously a few yards off to the side off camera! Instead I just out bantered him, and the police turned up (waste of their time).

But shows you how some bouncers are spoiling for a fight, and are generally ****ed off when they you don't rise to the bait. In saying that, sounds like the OP didn't even have a chance to know what was happening.

Have received criminal injuries in the past too (non bouncer or banterish...wrong place, wrong time) which helped me a lot...paid for my travels around the US and Canada for 4 months!

That's a horrible story, I hope you recover soon mate.

Hardly a shock though.

When you combine steroids, big ego's and low IQ's, it's a recipe for disaster.

Take the club to the cleaners and I hope the bouncer gets sacked and jailed.

Do you or your mate sometimes play in the Nuts Poker League at Dianes on a Monday night? I heard an almost identical story there recently.

I've thought for a while that the bouncers on Victoria Street try to out-do each other by seeing who can be the biggest winkers ;) My boss and I had been in a meeting recently that lasted all day and was due to follow on the next, and we'd taken 2 guys who were up for the meeting from London out for dinner and a few drinks, this being a Wednesday night. Had literally 2 pints in Biddies in the grassmarket before deciding to head up the hill- got to the bar just down from the Liquid rooms only for the bouncers to tell us we couldn't get in, because we were in too big a group- the place was practically empty inside, and we were only 4 blokes! When we pointed this out they told us we were too drunk (in a way that made it obvious they wanted an argument).

We weren't too bothered about moving onto a different pub, but it was embarassing in front of the guys who were with us. If Edinburgh is meant to be an inviting place to come to, somebody really needs to sort these guys out.

They are all to be registered and have licences from the SIA, http://www.the-sia.org.uk/home

Have a look on there see if theres anything about any action you can take. I agree with some of the other posters, you either sue the bouncer directly for damages or the venue if you find the thug doesn't have an SIA licence. Report them to the licensing board also I would say...

Sorry to hear that man, the bouncers at Liquid Room are grade A arseholes they really are.

Have genuinely never met a sound bouncer in Edinburgh, dunno what it is but they are all absolute tossers. Bullied at school and probably abused by their uncle.

Say What Again
I've thought for a while that the bouncers on Victoria Street try to out-do each other by seeing who can be the biggest winkers ;)

I used to work on George IV Bridge a few years back.

One night my mate was out with his Mum, sister, Auntie and another couple of friends. They'd been out for a meal for his Mum's birthday in the Grassmarket and asked if I'd like to meet them for a few drinks when I finished.

I finished at 10pm and met them in Biddies. We walked up Victoria Street and, after the first3 or 4 folk walked in, I was turned away from the same place you mention for having had too much to drink.

I pointed out that I'd just finished my work 20 minutes earlier and they turned aggressive. My mate said he'd go in and get his Mum to come back out and now they wouldn't let him in either because he was 'causing trouble'.

He called his sister on the mobile and she got everyone back outside and we went to Espionage for a drink.

Bellends.

Is it still the case that pubs/clubs owners in Edinburgh lose control of the doors to the bouncers? ie the bouncers set the set the 'rules' on who comes in or not?

I know of one formerly large company which owned a chain of pub/clubs across the country. Their Edinburgh place had a notorious reputation for how the bouncers treated the people who tried to get in. The owners said that due to intimidation they had absolutely no control over the bouncers.

Sorry to hear that and hope you get well soon. Bouncers in general I find to be complete tossers.

I worked in a big pub in Penicuik many moons ago and we did have the odd bit bother. We got bouncers on the door and the trouble got way worse and mainly due to them starting on the locals for no reason. It ended up from a big pub with an occasional punch being thrown to a nightly brawl due to the egos on the door.

I was going to go to the Rooms last night, but because I'm currently out at my Mum's I decided against it. The reason being that sometimes the bouncers there just make up reasons for you not to get in.

There's a new young guy, and I turned up one night on my own as my mates had already gone in. He refused to let me in without student ID. I explained that half of my mates in there weren't students, to which he replied: "I've seen every person that's gone in and checked their ID." He didn't take too kindly to me suggesting he hadn't done a great job of it in that case.

Luckily I didn't get banjoed and indeed bumped into a mate 5 mins later and went up to one of the other bouncers, who was all set to let me in before Bouncer 1 says I can't go in. Why? Cos I have no student ID. Bouncer 2 scoffs at him and tells me to go in.

They just set their own parameters as it suits them. Bawbags.

Btw, which bouncer was it?

DMG is my cousin and this really ****s me off. Hope you get better soon mate, get in touch and let me know how you are.

On a lighter note during my final year of uni we were out on the **** and it had been snowing heavily all night. Wandering home along the High Street we started lobbing some snow balls around and having a laugh. As we walked down past the castle we looked down to Victoria Street (there is an opening that looks down) see that the Liquid Room was emptying. My mate decided to lob a snow/ice ball at one of the bouncers and skelped him square in the face! It looked like fun so all four of us started and before we knew it we were hammering the bouncers much to the amusement of the people leaving the club (yes there was a wee bit of collateral damage but all in a good cause). They were shouting to us that we were dead etc but we knew that they could not leave the door so continued until two of them did leave the door and started sprinting up towards us.

So we shat it and ran.

And fell over in the snow.

Loads.

Can't say I've ever had any bother even getting in to liquid rooms never mind one of the bouncers thumping me. Bit of a pi55er for you mate.

Bouncers in general are knobends though. One exception I can think of is Cab Vol. Happy to have a banter with you and if they're not letting anyone in, its done in a polite but from way without being agressive (in my experrience anyway).

Remember about 25 years ago, inside Bobby magees in Rose Street, someone stole my 100 pound leather jacket.

A lot of money then.

I told the bouncers, next minute one has punched me on the chin and we ended up rolling about the sreet outside.

Luckily the police were on hand to calm things down and i went home, after wanting him charged but there were no witnesses AYE RIGHT.
