Haven't watched it yet but the lead actress was good in Fallout so was on my list. If I enjoy the series might give it a shot. Quote

Bigsmak Posted October 21, 2024 Posted October 21, 2024 Reading Guards Guards by Terry Pratchett for maybe the 4th or 5th time. Its still a great book and for those that haven't read the discworld novels, a great place to start. Quote

Changed lots of things from the book and not in a good way. Quote
Tazio Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 Just finished Bob Mortimer’s latest book The Hotel Avocado. Nothing heavy just a good, easy reading thriller with lots of good eccentric characters. Quote
highlandjambo3 Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 Just finished this today, decent read. Billy Summers justifies killing people because they are bad people, he sometimes thinks he’s bad. Quote
All roads lead to Gorgie Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 Just read this. Meh is all I can say. Quote
All roads lead to Gorgie Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 Just started this Scandic Noir book. Much better than above. Hooked so far. Quote

When I first started with the assassins apprentice, I thought it was quite slow to get going. Glad I ignored my thoughts this time. Quote

I read a lot of fantasy and have had the Farseer and Liveship trilogies on the shelf for ages. For some reason I've kept bypassing them. The first book was a breath of fresh air. Still quite reliant on the tropes, but the first person narrative gives it a different feel and the magic feels a lot more organic, even psychological. To date, Malazan Book of the Fallen is my favourite series, but appreciate that it's not everyone's tipple. Quote

After the far seer trilogy, read the tawny man trilogy and then the Fitz and the fool trilogy. They follow on from the far seer trilogy with the same characters. Last year, I blitzed all 9 I'm a row. Amd I'll probably do it again soon. Quote

I am a slow reader and only a quarter into the book so I won't be giving too much away but it involves Finnish biker gangs and a female Russian assassin as far as I can fathom. Oh and a couple of dead wolves at the start but I will leave the plot to play out. The writing is very good and really takes you the part of Sweden involved. Quote
Tazio Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 Not at heavy or intellectual but I picked up one of Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club books in a charity shop a few days ago. Thoroughly enjoyed it as a nice quirky mystery book. Then discovered it was the 4th in the series so I’ve gone back and got myself the 1st one. You can see why they’ve sold millions of copies, well written, amusing, and surprisingly sad as the main protagonists are mainly pensioners from a retirement village. Quote

Ulysses Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 I'm about 60 pages into this at the moment. A fantastic read so far. The central premise of the book is that the purpose of information isn't to depict reality or truth, but to create new realities by allowing people to be connected by stories and information flows. Shanks said no Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 Thank goodness for Ken Follett as I had read this utter drivel beforehand Quote
