Hibs' Kingston chants (merged threads)

Instead of just copying and pasting, presumably from Wikipedia, could you attempt to answer the question? Not trying to get on your nerves, but could you?

It was from wiki, no your not getting in my nerves and your refusal to accept that the hibs song is racist renders any debate on the matter pointless.

Or is it only black people that sell counterfeit goods in holiday resorts?

I do, because it's racist.

Are you tight? I'm not, and I don't see why I should be automatically considered so because of my nationality.

I'd honestly say it's more of a stereotyping of Scots, rather than racism. There's simply no suggestion that just because others may see us as the 'tight-fisted Jocks', that it's a slur on our race, or an inference that we're inferior to the race of those who choose to label us like that.

racial stereotyping is racism, it's not a convenient get-out clause to enable one to be racist.

take your racist pesh to another club, that is all.

Absolutely, An im certain no one here is racist whatsoever.

I'm sure there will be an investigation by the FA if there are complaints made about these songs.

I did hear them warbling a few unrecognisable tunes but couldn't for the life of me work out what they were saying. Leithers tend not to enunciate all that well.

Totally ignorant choice of chant but that comes as little surprise.

If I.J. is correct in saying that stereotypically ****'s smell, in your eyes is he not being racist?

I didn't say that, so maybe you should ask I.J if he thinks he'd be being racist if he'd said that...

The "Looky Looky" men as they are called are usually Always Black and sell cheap goods to make money. The song was sung at Larry why not another Hearts player? Why not Berra or Stewart or Driver? because they are white the fact it was sung at Kingston because he is black is therefore taking the stance that they feel superior to Kingston by lowering him by calling him this name. This then falls into the category of Racism.

Exactly the same as as the Skacel song, he was called a refugee because he was from another country ex eastern block therefore lowering him because of his race/ethnic background giving the hibs fans that sense of being superior therefore racist.

vermin the lot of them

I don't think that's rascist. I don't think calling Larry a 'looky looky man' is rascist either.

This doesnt seem racist to me ,one is white the other black its not racism.

Agreed, to all others -

it a wind up song at the most, if you feel offended by this then maybe you should stay indoors and not go to the football, because it must be a really big bad world out there!

its a derby, there has been a lot worse sung before and there will be a lot worse in the future, by both sets of supporters. Get over it, i bet Larry has!

To answer that question with 100% honesty - in my experience, yes. I usually go to the same part of southern Spain at least once every year, and have done for a few years. And I can say with honesty, that I'm sure that everyone of the blokes that has tried to offer to sell me 'designer' sunglasses, jewellery etc has been black. If I'm not mistaken, I think they come over the Mediterranean from Morocco to try and sell their wares.

You've convinced me.

If everyone who has tried to sell you counterfeit goods is black, it stands to reason that all black people sell counterfeit goods.

what about black people? would you tell black people to accept it?

i think not, and quite rightly so.

why should non-racist people have to accept racist behaviour any less than the people being discriminated against?

So, when they sang about Larry Kingston being a looky looky man, was it because they see him as an equal, or as an

inferior?

I honestly think neither - as I've said before, they're simply stereotyping. But, really they should be seeing him as a superior - after all, he plays for The Big Team, and I'd dare say he earns more than most of them!!

That's not really what I said, is it? I simply gave an honest answer. If you've been to the type of resorts I'm talking of, have you ever been approached by a bloke who wasn't black who has been trying to punt cheap goods?

Have you ever watched Fonejacker? What about the sketch with the wee Chinese guy selling fake dvd's - is that racist? I'm not trying to wind you up with this response, just trying to illustrate what I think is the difference between stereotyping and outright racism. Answer this honestly - if I were to say to you, "A guy came into my work today and was trying to sell me some fake dvd's. I'll give you odds of 5/1 that he was Chinese." Would you take me up on a bet?

No, but you're missing the point entirely, and effectively, you're trying to put words into my mouth. I have simply stated that any chap who's offered to sell me cheap goods in the resorts of which I've talked has been black. I didn't ever say, just for clarification, that every black person I've ever met has tried to sell me cheap goods. And you can see that clearly from my posts, so why ask that?

Do the people that constantly use the racism card for everything ever stop to think whether members of the race involved would actually be offended by it?

Plenty black players have played at Easter Road without being called a 'lucky lucky man' before. It was most likely done because Kingston has the similar cheeky chappy and colourful personality as the sterotypical watch sellers on holiday.

If a Scottish team were playing in Africa and the local fans started singing about deep fried mars bars to a slightly overweight Scotsman (who is also white), would you be offended???

That is a similar example of racial stereotyping, but you have to be pretty thin skinned to be offended by it. Same with the Kingston song.

If it was just intended to be racist, it would have been aimed at some of the countless black players who have appeared at Easter Road before.

Just another look on your point "its just a stereotype".

You go into work where you happen to work beside a black guy and start to spout hey there goes the Looky Looky man. The guy takes a bit of umbrage about it and reports it to your boss. Your boss pulls you into the office and says do you find it acceptable to call someone a Looky Looky man. to which you answer "its just a stereotype", what do you think your chances are of still being employed the next day?

My point is, if it is not acceptable anywhere else in society why is it acceptable at a football match?

life isn't like a football match, thank duck for that! i'm sure you've heard worse in the N pen. i know i have every home game! it may not excuse it but it certainly doesn't deserve all this hysteria.

That's hardly a comparable situation, is it? A set of fans singing a song in a football stadium, set against a workplace scenario similar to that of what you describe? Pointless post, really.

if that was the case there wouldn't have been a chant at all.

Plenty of Eastern Europeans have played at Tynecastle without being referred to as a "****ing refugee" as well btw ;)

re: the fat eddie murphy chant.

English fans sing this to Hasselbaink. Hibs have taken it from them.

The difference being, Hasslebaink remotely resembles Eddie Murphy. Nade does not.

this is the thing, its not just towards Nade hibs fans sing it. They sang it towards Darchville when Rangers played. To them a larger black footballer must look like Eddie Murphey when fat. Not sure if it is quite racist but still a bad chant.

Exactly.

Singing about a players lack of footballing ability, ie. Thicot and Makalemby, is acceptable.

Singing about a players racial steroetype is not.

Zero tolerance.

Stolen from a Premiership team (can't remember who) in reference to Jimmy Flloyd Hasselbaink. The difference being that JFH actually bears a passing resemblance to Eddie Murphy, whereas Nade is just black.

First time I heard it was Partick fans, hibs played rangers the following week and, you wont believe this, Hibs copied partick who probably copied a side from elsewhere.
