Shankland our captain

He's still pulling a shift. His quick thinking with the throw in led to our only goal. He made the assist in the first goal vs St Mirren also. He's definitely off the boil but still contributing.

What's so unfair or unthinkable about starting Wilson? Plenty of players have come in at that age and established themselves.

We just watched a 16 year old score for his country at the Euros and also play in the final. In Scotland…naah, he’s too young🙄

When he goes , there's zero goals in that whole squad but the club didn't sign another forward- but no one recognised the danger in this  'eggs in one basket' approach ? It beggars belief.

I came on this morning to post more or less this. We must be the only club on Gods green earth that has a bloke that wants away, doesn’t really care about Hearts as captain! We are so powder puff as a club.

I would like to add , he was only given the captaincy to keep him sweet as we were trying to get him to stay.

That’s my view.

Fans could also get behind him, I know it’s a bit radical. The amount of folk around me going purple in the face calling Shanks a ^^^^ and telling him to **** off was out of order.

Comparing Yamal to Wilson 😂 Jesus christ.

Physically they’re night and day.

Our best player deserves to be captain.

To be fair he has been led up the garden path by his agent (Neil McCann) on this. Turned down a pay rise of say £8k a week early in the year fully expecting to be sold/bought by probably

Rangers.

He has now lost approx £300k if this is correct with the likelihood of a

big move disappearing fast due to his goal drought.

His head was turned and it’s all gone horribly wrong for him. Out of shape and out of form. At his age he needs to work his ass off as his career could take a big tumble the next couple

of years and with that the likelihood of losing more money.

Didn’t see him once communicate with his team or try to motivate them. Captain?  Nah!

Compare him to Kilmarnock’s captain, one was shouting and berating his players for not doing their jobs the other had a face like a wean that’s had his sweeties confiscated.

Giving the armband back to Gordon and the minutes to Wilson is our only route forward now imo. We just have to hope that with game time Wilson gets stronger. Shanklands head has left the building. He must feel like a complete idiot not signing that deal. Nobody big wanted him in summer, nobody big is gonna want him next summer. He’ll be going back to Ayr at this rate.

I would give the arm band to Kent. I was never a fan of a goal keeper being a captain.

Gordon needs dropped to. Time to see if Critchley has balls, shankland and Gordon dropped and Kent to captain

I was hoping our manager had the bottle to haul him off - it would’ve sent a huge message.

His agent is Barry Hughes I believe. A complete roaster who can’t be listed as a director of his own company. McCann does work for them though

Shankland doesn't realise that this is the pinnacle of his career. He may get a bit more money at Rangers but he is not their saviour, we all know that. The reason it's taken him 8 years to recover from his time at Aberdeen is his attitude and professionalism, not his goals. There are plenty of strikers without pace, but if they work hard nobody really cares, you just play speedsters off him...Unfortunately Mackay has the exact same lazy attitude to running. The reason Rangers let MacKay go, is the exact same reason that they refuse to pay a fee for Shanks.

Correct - I really feel sorry for Critchley because you'd need to be Harry Houdini to find goals in that group of players without Shankland's goals. The incompetence in leaving us so short of options in the final third going into this season is off the scale.

Eh, let's just forget the 7 goals in 3 games last week then. Jeez this place!!!

We played relatively poor opposition last week but the fact remains that apart from Shankland we don't have a player who is going to score 12-15 goals a season in that squad. Last night once we went behind we could have been playing until midnight and still not scored.

Agreed including Vargas who will never be a regular goal scorer

The lack of any replacement is the issue here, if we had recruited a striker in the summer we could have given him a rest but we didn't so he needs to play every minute. He's miles off it though and doesn't look even remotely threatening. Compare that with Vassell from Killie who probably isn't the greatest player but he's physical and rag dolled our defence again last night.

The center forward for the Hearts women's team could bully our defence.

At the moment, Shankland is like a carbon copy of Boyce - too slow to outrun defenders, constantly losing the ball when he's challenged, not alert or mobile enough in the box to get shots on goal. In fact, if Boyce had had the amount of game time that Shankland has I'm pretty sure he would have a similar record - one goal and two assists. This isn't an argument to say we should be playing Boyce, rather it goes to show what an absolute dumpling Shankland has become.

The big ball winning centre half we haven't signed yet.

Looking at the squad there is nobody that stands out as captain material. Kent maybe, but if it's true he's not happy here and looking to move, then no.

Gordon? No, he's still our number 1 but for how long?

Shankland, No......doesn't want to be here and can sign a pre elsewhere in less than 3 months time.

I'd actually give it to Boateng just now.

Looks fit enough to play every week, is young and has a presence in the middle of the park. It's time for change and it starts with a new captain.

Exactly, your captain imo should be the one looking pissed off and giving everyone a hard time , telling people to cool their heads after a goal etc. I would pass it to Frankie Kent, however I see alot of good qualities in Spittal too.

His physical condition is as astonishing an act of self-sabotage as you’ll ever see. For an elite athlete to do that to himself, never mind his employers, is beyond belief.
He’s never come across as very bright but dearie me…

Don't let facts get in the way of an argument though

Shanks isn't our major problem albeit the lack of goals is telling.

Kent dip in form, didn't like Gordons performance last night at all, McKay is a waste of a shirt, right back still a concern, middle of park is lightweight and passive.

Stick with Shanks and the captains armband, give the gloves to Zander, bring back Halks on Saturday and give Kent some rest, Kingsley in to give Penrice some down time and pray that the good lord has healed his Beni-boy.

Yeh his agent is Barry Hughes ( a dubious character, some say gangster, allegedly ) McCann has never been his agent but is involved with the same agency, it’s a myth that has grown legs over time.

How does Gordon need dropped?

He needs to give the armband back, admit any injury that exists and bide his time

My god, he's been needing this for a while, but it seriously has reached the terminus

I honestly will feel for the guy's welfare if he's bunged back into the starting line-up in perth

We've probably no choice but to go with 1 Striker and AMs, half of which will probably have to be subbed

Where's the rotation?

The captain's manager seems fairly happy with his contribution in general play when interviewed after the game.

Harsh to say he doesn't care, the guy's confidence is shot to bit in front of goals.

60 goals in 2 seasons says to me he definitely cares.

When will ever see these stats again ?

Another 30 years if we are lucky.

Unfortunately I agree. Aberdeen lost their top striker and it doesn't seem to have affected them too badly.

Absolute exaggeration and pretty personal imo.

You don't know the guy so basically calling him stupid is not on.

We got £0 for Shankland

Not blind though.

He most definately overweight for a pro sportsman.

We gave Boyd shit for it and Hartson

They kept scoring

Shanks is fat and not scoring

its not a great combination

I'm not so sure Boyce is more immobile than Shankland anymore tbh.

As sad as that sounds, I can’t disagree based on Shanklands recent performances
