Homme
It's that time of year again when part time horse punters go nuts! Admittedly not up to speed with this year's festival so got a bit of research to do prior to tomorrow. My bookie account is looking good though and so it'll be all bookies money I play with this year. Is it just me or does it all feel very flat in the build up? Use this thread to post your bets and fancies!
SecN
I'm up for spending a wee bit of budget this week. Won't go overboard. Most of the big name bookies giving out freebies for incentives. William Hill are giving £5 each day as free-bet.

They aren't usually the best with offers and don't see any on their app yet. They do usually come up with something though. I'm on call this week but managed to sort working from home so hopefully I'm quiet and can see all races. Hand over on call midday Friday so can enjoy the gold Cup day with a beer or two! Shooter McGavin
Will take advantage of Sky Bets daily money back offer, but every year I’m reminded that horse racing is nearly impossible to bet on as a complete casual like myself 😂 Feels like you have to do a 5 year apprenticeship before you’re even half decent at picking a horse! Homme
Ground looks heavy as hell in places. Standing water. Still thrashing it down too. Not great news for Lossiemouth or Corbetts Cross who are short in their respective races. Watch out for Eagle Fang!

I read a book about 20 years ago written by Kevin Booth who owned the Isiris tipping service. His strategy was to identify favourites that for whatever reason, couldn't win a particular race and to oppose that horse. Quite often he got his info from the relationships between certain stables and certain large bookmakers. He identified which stables had relationships with which bookmakers in his book. The info is now 20 years out of date and I have no idea if Bet365 has strong ties to the Willie Mullins stable but given that bookmakers hate favourites winning it seems strange behaviour to try to pull punters in in this way on a horse which other bookies have at around 4/9. I agree it should win comfortably but this seems a bit suspicious to me.

The punters they pull on on this offer stick money on other races and become either returning lapsed 365 customers or new ones. Risk, reward. I've not put the bet on as I'm limited to £15 on it and don't see the point. What I will say is that it is healthy to have cynicism towards anything a bookie does! Man, that is unlucky. At least they use the tiebreaker. The amount of folk thinking they’ve won £5/10k on bet365 football scores and buying holidays before they realise it’s a pool is unreal!
