Bruno Aguar, worth a shout? I always thought he was a talented player. Also Brellier.:sweeet:

Bruno Aguiar was an incredibly talented player. He was vital in propelling a Hearts side spearheaded by Christian Nade into 3rd place!

I've still got a shirt in my wardrobe with Palazuelos on the back

Can't have been many of us that bought that!

Haha cost a fortune at about a pound a letter.

To me a cult hero is someone who will always be well liked amongst the fans despite not being a superstar, even only because of one performance or because the feeling was they “got” the club. Maybe not even that good overall, certainly not a legend but guaranteed they wouldn’t ever need to buy a pint in Gorgie.

Recent ones imo,

Olly Lee for his ER screamer
Dikamona for his warriors performance on one good leg that same game

Ozturk for the best derby goal ever

Milenkovic & Harry Cochrane for the 4-0 vs Celtic

Cowie for the effort he put in whenever he played

Zeefuik for demolishing the Championship for that 4 odd months he was here

I would personally agree with your definition of a cult hero, but it's a subjective topic I guess.  Remember that guy Andy Thorne that JJ brought up from Wimbledon for 1 match??

Wee Mikey

My shout goes to Julian Brellier.

Back in the day, I struggled to conjure up a ditty in his honour and, in my mind's ear, imagined us having plucked him from obscurity from St Helier - thinking of Jersey.

As it happens, there is a St Helier football team - a Sunday team from Carshalton.

The tune being 'Ta-Ra-Ra Boom-De-Ay'

🎶🎵🎶

He's not too young,
He's not too old,
Not too timid,
Not too bold.
A midfielder who likes to hold
Just the kind for sport, I'm told.

Julian Brellier,
Signed from St Helier,
Julian Brellier,
Julian Brellier
(Repeat chorus ad-infinitum)

🎶🎵🎶

At least he'd then have been a 'sung hero' rather than an 'unsung hero'.

Bonkers? Moi? 🤭

(My lyrics adapted from the Lottie Collins version, but that ☝️ makes a nice wee Sunday earworm)

Jim Townsend in particular was a class player.

Was at the game when Doug Ballie broke his leg at Falkirk, he was never the same player afterwords!

Freddie Glidden, unsung hero, cup winning captain, Hearts through and through.

Ernie Winchester, Donald Ford’s less intellectual sidekick. Left everything out there, consequently got injured a lot. Shot like a rifle but his aim wasn’t too great sometimes.

Raold Jensen, tricky winger, could beat anyone with the ball at his feet (including himself much of the time).

Craig Beattie

Busby will always be my top cult hero.   His Hearts career came during a very tough, lean spell so we the fans needed a spark and he provided it often.  His song still gets sung to this day which says it all really.

Hard as nails.

This is definitely a recurring one. I remember his home-made video from the pre and post 1998 cup final... what a "documentary" that was! 😂
Prob had the best football nickname ever too!

That's a really smart barometer mate. How many other players from previous generations still get regularly sung about...?  Busby... Robbo... no many

Good list and some cracking players there.

Although I'm not sure how guys like De Vries and cup winning captain Zaliukas could in any way be classed as "unsung" or "cult" heroes?

Another few in there who were more than that and well established as just plain heroes.

The guy that came up and played the league cup quarter final against Celtic when we beat them. Salvatori and Grant got sent off in the game which Hearts won in extra time. I think he came up from Man. City before they were minted.

Jose Quitongo for that late equaliser goal against Celtic in the League at Tynecastle. I can still remember Jackie McNamara's moaning pus getting interviewed after the game.

Never ever forgave him for booting the ball from late equaliser kick off back to the Celtic keeper in the cup semi.

That possession 'give away' led to their winner.

Apart from that he was okay 😄

Not mentioned yet I think but, lest we forget - Graham Weir. I celebrated his two goals more than any others.

I would agree with you. Many of these in the list (so far) are just bonafide heroes. I am interested in the quirky, or more cult suggestions. Plenty of them in the list too mind! :)

This was mental. I genuinely almost fell halfway down the Wheatfield steps. That was truly mental scenes.
