Why would Rangers expect double the money from a Scottish club? They know the financial realities of our league. They just want to offload players now. This isn't Harry Kane!

Not just Rangers, but we’d do it too. We’d expect a much higher fee from a league competitor than a club outside our league. As the fee is normally compensation for losing a player, if it’s a competitor then the fee is enlarged as compensation needs to be for potential competition and loss of points as well.

Thinking the same myself! He was some striker! The goals he scored were all excellent. Shame he took unwell. Remember he got booked at Aberdeen for his celebration.

Goal at Aberdeen is up there with one of the best goals Hearts have ever scored. Morphed into Barcelona for that play.

Looks like the story broke from a journalist in Costa Rica last night, so Banderson still hasn't been fed anything from the club

The replies are fairly positive.  They seem to think its a good move, stepping stone to other clubs/EPL. Apparently "the purple ones are waiting" whatever that means 😄

The best goal Hearts have ever scored for me.

Not because of the importance or the finish, just the absolute class.

Would we get the go ahead for this type of signing ? Does he have any caps ?

Seems a strange one.

If it does to the SFA panel and they hesitate, we just need to point to Dundee’s signings this summer

12 goals & 7 assists last season, pretty similar numbers to Gino then (albeit he played just under 400 more minutes according to transfermarkt). Pretty decent for a 21 year old, I've no idea how the costa rican league compares to the SPFL but he sounds relatively promising.

No idea about the league but he's with the Costa Rican national team at the Gold Cup (hasn't made it onto the pitch though) and they are 9 places above Scotland in the world rankings.

Also full name is Kenneth Gerardo Vargas Vargas, so good they named him twice!

And his squad number of choice appears to be 15, it's written in the stars!

I’m excited by an unknown quantity from Central America

I’m less excited that his name is Kenneth…

You have to remember for some reason there is a Welsh connection to this part of South America, think it was something to do with mining and some of the locals actually speak Welsh

Another of his goals, certainly in the videos he shows great finishing ability.

An interesting one, always love an exotic transfer. As someone said earlier does feel a little bit hibs but I think that is because they have signed a few unknowns from Central America. But Costa Rica is a country that has been at the last 3 World Cups, and has genuinely done well, so there is talent in the country.

Also if Club Brugge were sniffing around him earlier in the window its a good sign, Belgian clubs are good a picking up young talent from around the world and building them up. Something I would love to see us specialise in. We are doing it with Australian talent, looking to get Japanese talent, so getting a player from Latin America (if they do well) can also open that market up for us as well.

Sfa have history for that kind of thing though, didn’t they turn down the permit for one club but allowed another club in a lower division to sign the same player ?

No caps, been on the bench 3 times for the full national team this year without getting on, does have u-23/21 caps though and at only 21 with a country well inside the top 75 threshold we shouldn't have any issues but well you never know with the SFA!

After I completed my UEFA pro licence course, I went to Costa Rica to gain some coaching experience and I remember this Vargas lad very well.

He is rapid, doesn’t get pushed off the ball easily and he is a natural goal scorer.  He will work well with Shankland.

That’s how it works on here nowadays, yes?

If we sign this Costa Rican does that mean we get exclusive rights to all the players in the league similar to Celtic’s arrangement with Japan

Are you thinking of Jason Scotland? Dundee United tried to renew his contract but were denied a work permit as he didn't meet the premier league and didn't get deemed as being a special talent for the top flight, he was then deemed a 'special talent' for the championship where he signed for St Johnstone (who apparently just used Dundee Uniteds dossier to apply for the work permit)

25 caps already ? Would be no issues I’d imagine then.

I think that might be wrong . You need to go down the page and use the drop down that shows Costa Rica, Costa Rica u22 or Costa Rica u23.

Something seems incomplete or wrong but under age caps will do. Look at Calem Nieuwenhof

Hard for the GFA to refuse a permit when Celtic are signing all these Japanese players.

Aye, I thought you were getting confused with England. Rangers don't regard us as competition mate. They'll take £500k from anyone to free up the wages. Celtic loan players to Aberdeen ffs. Our biggest transfer sales have been to clubs outside Scotland too. Never seen us demand money from the Old Firm. You're maybe thinking that we refused to sell players to the Old Firm at points?

Jason Scotland. Forget which SPL team got denied it, but he got approved for it for St. Johnstone that weren’t in the SPL at the time.

Pretty much a Hibs panel IIRC. All the sweeter when he relegated them

Didn’t think it made a difference since we left EU.  Was Devlin only capped at under 23 before he joined?

Apologies of this is a Peebles post.

Jamie McGrath has ripped up his contract with Wigan. Looks like we’ll be making a move for him.

It was inexplicable to me, given some of the other signings around that time. I'm sure he was rejected by the panel 😡
