He'll be gone at the end of the season

I don’t think so. Barry Ferguson is the only person in Scotland who thinks Rangers can win the league from this position. I’m not saying he won’t improve them, especially with a window coming up, but there is no danger Celtic are dropping enough points to let Rangers get much closer than they are now.

This guy will get the rest of the season as a free hit and the summer window. Assuming of course he keeps them in second that is. He’ll then be judged on what he does in Europe, and where he has them vs Celtic in the first couple of months then he’ll probably be in danger and the wheel will turn full circle again.

Hes a ‘meh’ appointment IMO. They should have gone all out for a bigger name.

He would get a fair amount of leeway at QPR; they run a fairly tight ship now. He will get no leeway at Rangers. Still, he does know that.

Would he? The Championship is notorious for clubs making huge losses and having a hire-and-fire attitude to coaches. Only 2 of 24 clubs have had their current manager in place for more than 2 years. In the last 16 years, only two of their managers have lasted more than 2 years.

Rangers have clearly bought into the chat that Beale was the man behind the plus points of SG’s career to date.

To be fair, they are in a position to make an informed judgement on that, rather than needing to buy into chat.

Interesting to hear one of the players that played under him and Gerrard at Rangers say that he wasn't the coach who was the friend to the players and is now going to need to make the difficult transition to manager. He was more detached than that, always at Gerrard's side.

More than likely that it will fail. There seem to be structural issues at Rangers. That said, both Gerrard and Postecoglou have demonstrated that it is possible to turn things around quickly between the Old Firm. When you are in a competitive pot of two, it doesn't need much improvement from your team and decline of the other team to overturn what seems an insurmountable gap.

A great journalist in an era when someone not associated with the OF could be the star columnist for a weegie rag. And could actually write.

Like all good Hearts fans he did not have or at least was not blinded by maroon tinted glasses. After we lost in the cup to Forfar he suggested Tynie should be turned into a car park.

My favourite was the day after Hearts won at St. Mirren before Christmas 1985 to go top of the Premier.

"Too much fuss is being made of this. It's not as if it's East Fife, Montrose, Hibs or Brechin who've gone top".

Has there been any chat as to why he rejected Wolves? To then go to that basket case of a club?

Very weird.

Looking more at it, his record as a manager is woeful and QPR fans hate him. This could be quite entertaining.

The Copeland Cathro won't see the 23/24 season.

Oh come on, be more optimistic than that. Let's hope he gets the "I need a window and an offseason" excuse like Cathro and digs them into a deep hole next season too.

The Old Tolbooth

This appointment screams "we're skint!!!!"

QPR fans really dislike this guy, his record with them is atrocious, and let's hope he continues this as the wee Rangers.

Happy days :)

In Scotland it's irrelevant to anybody but maybe Celtic who manages Rangers. They just fired a manager who was comfortably clear in 2nd collecting an average 2.2 points per game.

If they maintained that through the season which at a bare minimum they would be expected to, then they would finish just shy of 80 points, 79.2 to be precise.

And they're obviously considered by both board and fans to be having a poor season, while the sheep coming up behind then in 3rd are deemed to being have a relatively good league season.

They're currently averaging 1.66 points per game which if maintained over a season would see them finish just shy of 60 points.

Thus Rangers, if they continued their 'bad season', would still likely finish minimum 20 points clear of 3rd. They could finish minimum second if they chose a different senior player to pick the team every game. That makes it irrelevant to anybody else but Celtic what they do managerially.

Incidentally Celtic have been averaging 2.8 points per game, so over a 36 game season that would pan out to be 100.8 which I will generously round up to 101

Which would make the gap between first and second almost identical to the gap between second and third. Clearly Rangers wont accept that, the automatic CL group stage spot is too valuable.

Ian Beales coat will already be on a shoogly peg by May, he was the cheap option, no managerial experience, around 20 games at QPR, could have got at least 5 better options currently employed in Scotland
