Victorian
LOL. All of that relates to a bit of tinkering and reclassification of the national debt that was already floated as an idea by various right wing media sources. Hunt is just regurgitating it as some kind of AH-HAAA moment. Hunt has taken all of the criticism very personally and has been pushing back against it quite angrily. Slaver. I don't think Labour are looking at doing it. Personally I think relaxing the use of national debt and the fiscal rules should be considered while they try to find ways to tax the type of money that isn't working for the economy. I think Labour need a really good reaction from the budget. Some big wins. U-turning on the winter fuel money now would make them look incompetent, but doing it in conjunction with a major fiscal event of multiple measures can be made to look better. I would not be surprised to see this happen.

Lone Striker
4 hours ago, Cade said: The right wing rags are trying their very best to amplify all of this to ludicrous levels. New New Labour may be happy to take back handers and freebies but they're nowhere near the same level of open and blatant corruption as the Tories. New New Labour may be rolling out austerity 2.0 instead of taxing the rich and bringing big business to heel but they're nowhere near as economically illiterate as the Tories were. New New Labour are not the shining beacons of competence and integrity that people were wanting but by feck they're a welcome relief after 14 years of Tory corruption and dismantling of the state. The right wing rags are trying to pretend that having the Tories back would somehow be better(!) AT last, a bit of perspective on things. 👍 What's this STarmer media gossip all about ? Just the freebie gifts o.g. being bigger than first reported ? Or regurgitating the "he chose not to prosecute Jimmy Savile" line ? Or heaven forbid, he had an affair with someone a while ago.... He may not mind and I'm dubious about the same kind of sources that had him eating a curry during lockdown as front page news for days rather than weeks and their screechbots are hardly reliable sources or indeed a guide for anybody's moral compass. The important issues are about the competence and integrity of his government and if they can get us out of the deliberate wreckage of austerity, Brexit, Johnson and Truss. In a way, I hope this hush-hush stuff is about Starmer having shagged someone - Christ, its 2024 - dozens of politicians & their advisors have been shagging non-spouses & each other for decades, including 2 of the 3 most recent Tory PMs. The non-MSM are making lots of noise about it, and shouting "conspiracy" at the MSM - clever marketing if one of them has a book coming out. 5 hours ago, XB52 said: I've said it before; if I had to vote, and the only choices were Labour or tory then it would be tory. Cade
It seems that none of the Tories and Farage especially have read the terms of the deal. The US base at Diego Garcia is staying where it is. The UK is retaining sovereignty over the island of Diego Garcia. All the other islands are being returned to Mauritius. There is going to be no forced relocation of Chagosans back to the islands. (FYI the Tories themselves were working on this deal so don't let them start moaning about it)

Gundermann
Disappointment for Labour in Dundee yesterday. 😄 Quote Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar had been hoping to win both contests but, responding to the defeats, the party said the UK Government’s decision to make the Winter Fuel Payment means-tested contributed significantly to the result. A senior party source told the Daily Record: “The Winter Fuel Payment policy and the freebies stories were talked about constantly by voters on polling day. These were the biggest factors in folk not coming out. https://uk.news.yahoo.com/labour-blame-winter-fuel-payment-095524686.html?`

Or perhaps £75,000 in cash is better than free gear, because it lets the corrupt **** who gets it make their own decision as to what to buy with it.
