Hibs had first refusal and were owed millions by the Saudi team. You think we should have stumped up £2m to buy a 30yr old cheat with more dives than goals? That just seems kind of unlikely. Levitt is the one we should have been going hard to try and sign. RCC would probably have given more over a season than Gino and GMS so wouldn't have minded that one. Boyle would have been a great signing for us though and wasted at the shite. Gino and GMS have been told they can go and not part of plans. Cook would have gave us plenty options. Grant was straight up poor yesterday and for a dead ball specialist his delivery was trash. He just looks like a squad player to me. Hoping for Connor Ronan but who knows what's going on there. Martin Boyle is decent but there's as much chance of us signing him as of Rudi going to the vermin when he was available. Never happening. Rowles has come in for Souttar, Neilson has come in for Moore, Grant has come in for McEneff, Forrest has come in for Woodburn, Shankland has come in for Simms and Cochrane doesn’t change anything. I would probably say overall the quality is better but the size of the squad is no different. Lets hope for another few signings in the next couple of weeks. Absolutely spot on. Surely another 3 or 4 to come? We will be shattered this season if we continue with this size of squad. I worry it will affect our league position tbh. He tried something positive at start today it was working looked good then as he often does he panics and goes back to what he thinks will get result, tinkers changes it goes to extra defender for safety but it seems to go other way and we lose momentum initiative and it keeps happening. The signings are decent but disappointing to the rhetoric quoted in May squad isnt better in quality promised (other teams have spent fortunes utd sheep even hubz) we got told we had loads to invest in team have we really used it now without simms souttar woodburn (who wasn't great but had pedigree) wright was on trial davenport on trial when wright left we were looking at somebody better where is this guy then, our squad is still light you need bigger squad for europe or your domestic form will suffer we have players, as good as they are, who tend to pick up injuries most seasons boyce smith kingsley halkett plus beni has had 2 in a season will he be as good, devlin now seems to have problems with hamstrings, why keep henderson or ginnelly if he won't play them when strikers are knackered like today. The youngsters never get a chance Cammy Logan is away again I see while we have Smith whose getting worse or Atkinson who cant defend he loans them for whole season with no call back. Can't see many from B squad getting chance either he wd rather name less subs. I saw a few Queens park games last season Cammy Smith was outstanding against cloggers in that league energy direct quick can score goals from midfield or wide better than GMS or some unnattached players with injury record. Yes we got 3rd and cup final but sheep and hibs were awful utd were good to watch but not as consistent all have strengthened big time Hibs now have diving chipmunk back to con ref for pens and score goals 3rd wont be easy. Another really good post.
Watt-Zeefuik
So from evidence today, it sounds like we need a striker, a central mid, and a right sided CH. Someone should tell Joe and Robbie. Seriously, taking a look at last year's signings, early in the window we got Ginnelly and Stewart on to permanent deals and got Cochrane and Woodburn on loans. Right before the season started we got Beni, and added Devlin and McKay after the season was underway. I think when we look back on this window, the real top quality signings will be the ones yet to come, with the possible exception of Shankland who impresses me more every week. Well it hasn't stopped teams like Ross county and Livvy getting some decent new attack minded players with pace or strikers on cheap or on loan who give teams problems recruited from lower english league clubs or on frees. Ross county new players v us gave us tough game and at times v Celtic and Livvy new players looked a handful versus Sevco and beat Utd at Tannadice. Joe Savage said with Simms wages we knew he was out our price range he was never coming back so why did we wait months not looking to replace him if we knew this. Games like today is when you need another option up front plus someone who can score goals from midfield not more and more holding players or defenders. 3 strikers we got told in May was what we were looking for different types also. We have brought in 1 Robbies mate. We can buy, but we can't buy the players Rangers and Celtic buy. What's our transfer record and do you think we could spend that on a player, today? We need do buy what we can afford, and that's what we have done and for me, we are doing quite well. I hope Robbie has some more mates like Shankland, cause the lad is pretty good. Atkinson is a weak defender and Smith isn’t a player for every week and certainly not for 90 mins. He have his all whilst on the park though. I’d like the Smith that we first signed from Peterborough. I’d be blooding Lewis Neilson every week and keeping Sibbick for a DM. Obviously they can't alienate them and they'd be valuable to other teams but it does feel like the writing is on the wall. Which is a good thing if it means we bring in replacements that can truly challenge the first 11. *I know they've said explicitly they are looking to improve attacking options but for clarification I mean over and above what's been made public (1 attacker, 1 mid etc.). Which is why I’ve said it wasn’t the change of formation that was the wrong choice yesterday, it was that Devlin came on for Grant when he should have come on for Boyce. We would have then effectively had a 3 man midfield of Haring/Devlin with Grant in front, meaning shorter passes could’ve been played, rather than lumped clearances to an isolated Shankland, marked McKay or knackered out on his feet Boyce. We could’ve held onto the ball better rather than gifting it back to them all the time. Edited August 8, 2022 by BackOfTheNet

PapaShango
I don't think we need to panic, think we will bring in another couple of players and wouldn't be surprised if a couple also leave. Gino and GMS more than likely heading out the door. Also wouldn't be surprised if Henderson left either on loan or permanent. He isn't going to cut it at Hearts IMO and probably better for the lad to leave to play football. Haring was tremendous yesterday and along with Cochrane was our best player. We do need another body in there though, someone a bit different to what we have got. However it's no easy task trying to find someone of that ilk. The boy Anderson at Newcastle would have been ideal, however that doesn't look likely. There is always the possibility that if Newcastle buy more players that they will let him leave on loan. Lord Beni of Gorgie
I've always suspected that Grant and to an extent Forrest are the men who will play the rotational roles when new men arrive. His corners yesterday, couple were poor, but some were into decent areas, Hibs to be fair defended them well enough and perhaps we just dont have our routines right in that area yet. If a midfielder and attacker come in, would expect these 2 guys still to figure but more so in home games in particular. Ronan was on the bench for Wolves Saturday, they have quite a youthful squad, guessing this might be a year they are seeking to balance the books and he will be a squad player for them, I'd forget him
