An average performance, I don't think we broke sweat, we didn't have to. I sincerely hope we were saving ourselves for Tuesday night.

Second goal was well worked today.

First goal was good tenacity to win the ball back. A good three points to put more distance between us and the chasing pack.

My motm. Andy Halliday. Nat Atkinson not far behind.

We need to improve 10 fold performance wise on Tuesday.

A Derby is a different ball game.

We have to have the right attitude or we won't win.

All roads lead to Gorgie

Solid win for us and hibs lose again. Happy days!

Great to see big Simms get a goal, first of many I'm sure!

Was there a problem with Souter going off at halftime or were we try out his replacement?

Took a knock above the ankle just before half time.

FT. 2-0.

Well played Hearts. Dug out some decent moves against a determined but dirty bunch.

Simms - class debut
Halliday - keeps ramming my complaints down my throat.

Not actually his debut 😂

100% Its not even so much him hiding, its the wasteful shots that he should be burying or at least putting them hard enough on target to make the keeper work. He should have won us the derby, he should have scored today. He's just generally a frustrating player that is on his way down. Should look to get shot in the summer and bring in someone who can get on the ball and make things happen.

Agree GMS is really frustrating, was it Dingwall he should have buried it and put it over the stadium

It should be! Nothing against Souttar he is an excellent player, but we should be playing guys that want to be here next season. He should only play if we are short through injury.

I can understand him signing a pre-contract and the security he gets from the increase in wages. No problem with that. Unfortunately if Rangers don't pay for him now, he could end up not kicking a ball for months, losing his place in the Scotland squad as well. About time Rangers coughed up and showed a bit of faith in Souttar, because leaving it till the end of the season must make him think "do they really rate me". Rangers should do the decent thing, for the club & player.

I'd much rather he stayed - Moore was a bomb scare today.

We weren’t tested today. I think we’d have been able to shift up a gear if we needed to. Hibs on the other hand..

Hearts win under Bob again and extend their lead in 3rd place.

Haliday starts, scores and mom.

JKB should be quiet tonight.

The first half was pretty scrappy stuff. Not much to get excited about there.

The second half was better. The game opened up a bit and we began to create chances. Once there was more space to play in you could clearly see which team has the better players.

Atkinson, Halliday, Devlin, and Baningime were all very good.

Taylor Moore was poor.

Three points in the bag and the gap between us and the teams chasing us, extended.

A good afternoon's work.

Good job on Halliday for sticking at it and putting himself about even though he’s not been first choice. His record for Hearts is brilliant.

Not the most gifted player, but gives 100% every game he plays.

Exactly well put! Motherwell are a physical side full of big players. Cammy Devlin must have thought he was the meat in the sandwich at times today. But managed to be influential in both goals.

I know conditions weren't great. But I felt a few of our players had a lot of poor first touches???

More Motherwell’s ferocious tempo in pressing us. We struggled for spells with it again. We needed to quicken the passing, no time for two touches.

Thabkfully we figured that out after 20 mins and started putting the ball in behind them for Simms to chase. This changed the game.

Struggled. No major mistaked but an all round ragged performance. To be fair he has ‘t played for a while and Motherwell gave the back three no time in posession at all.

Another one.

His misses are shocking and he shouldnt' be playing for us. 31 years old and not an iota of composure about him.

Really need to focus in on our wide players recruitment wise in the summer. 343 demands more scoring and none of them have stepped up. McKay I think is offering the most but still isn't a goal threat, however he's always involved and creates goals and chances incredibly well. Said before but a player like Milinkovic would be perfect - tailor made, for this set up.

Tom Hardy’s Dug

A team that’s never played together before.

4 of our best defenders out or off injured.

3 guys playing that have been here less than a week.

A comfortable win against our closes competitors for 3rd - who are also dirty physical *******s.

And people (“fans”) moaned like fannys most of the game?

Good 3 points.

2 points closer to top 😀.

Played better after taking lead.

Devlin needs dropped/rested.

Moore/Beni/Simms needed that game.

Good Debut from Tony.

GMS whilst not great actually fought for the team.

Woodburn played well when coming on.

I reckon we had one eye on the derby today. The positive thing for me is that we now have many options and can change things around if needs be

we had a wee change of formation today and I thought 1st half, we probably didn’t settle on it as quickly as we could have

How many times though, in the past, our first half performance has led to a continuation of the same, and in the 2nd half. Not the case now.

The derby will be a different game, correct, but if we play our game, and not the occasion, another 3 points will be ours

And that wee dick Maloneys coat will probably be in a shoogly peg come the full time whistle 😌👍

I didn’t hear anyone around me moaning. Fantastic professional performance against our nearest rivals. Seemed to be well appreciated by the crowd.

That Jordan Roberts looked quite tidy. Still time in the window to snap him up lol.  Why couldn't he play in that assured way for us ?

Thinking back to the discussion of how we should have pressed Celtic much harder from the start, today was a good illustration today of how a team can come out and press hard like Motherwell did but there's no way they can keep it up, so they fall away and we end up dominating the game. Motherwell are a decent team who pressed us well initially but we showed our quality in the end and could easily have won by more. The kind of performance the OF put in week in, week out.

MATCH REPORT: https://t.co/AjRvAdqxKf

That feels like a big win, especially with Hibs losing. Don’t think we played well at all to be honest, but Motherwell are stuffy so the result was always going to be more important.

Neilson confirmed afterwards that Soapy is fine, but Halkett will be out for 4-6 weeks.

I think we were tested defensively first half. Positional changes seemed to upset us, plus our now commonplace slow start.

Second half we were decent without being brilliant. Got to grips with the midfield, upped the tempo and started finding Simms with the longer ball. Ended up the stronger team by far and could easily have added another couple of goals.

Livingston had only 39% possession today but had 19 attempts at goal and 9 on target. For me that says Hibs are not very good without the ball and they have to be worried about us if they’re losing 3 goals at home to Livingston.

its brilliant, surprising as they normally shut it down to guests after any defeat, certainly enjoying it. Sounds like they are in a bad place 😂

Loved that both our goals today came when we pressed immediately after losing the ball to win it back, then played the right passes to score. Boyce won the ball back both times or Boyce and Devlin? I love how Devlin is always there to pick up a ball from another Hearts player's challenge or provide an option for a short pass.

Our wing backs have scored a lot from effectively winger positions.
