Certainly fits the bill in terms of being unique.

I first heard Safe As Milk around 1970, and I still listen to it today - imo the good Captain was possessed of a quality voice -and he wrote a mean lyric…

And some quality playing by Ry Cooder on it.

Yip, Ry elevates anything he plays on, and another unique voice, though possibly not iconic…

I'd say David Sylvian's mournful tones are iconic. Not everyone's cup of tea but I couldn't hear enough Japan back in the day.

Huge fan, too, of the Dennis Locorriere/Ray Sawyer combination.

All roads lead to Gorgie

Not a voice from the mainstream certainly but Hope Sandoval has an iconic voice if you like dreamy vocals. I do like to drift off in that direction sometimes.

Shaun Ryder had a unique voice, in

stantly recognizable.

Tim burgess, the Charlatans singer.

Michael Hutchence. INXS.

Richard Ashcroft. The Verve.

Too many to mention.....Bowie, Weller, Poly Styrene, Axel Rose, George Michael, Annie Lennox, Tina Turner and a few thousand others. All have their own distinctive style. The ONLY one who I think can't be replicated is Neil Diamond. Many have tried and failed miserably at your local two bob boozer karaoke.

Bizarrely Poly Styrene was one of the first I thought of too

Eddie Vedder was far superior if we are talking grunge

Going to see him in July 😀

Chris Cornell was probably the best out of the seattle bands imo.

A wee one for Burns’ Night. Maybe not as famous as some others here but certainly an iconic voice on the Scottish music scene. And proof you don’t need a show off voice to get emotion across. To my ears a much better reading of Burns that Eddi Reader manages.
