Sadly with meatloaf passing away got me thinking about the most iconic voice in music so I’ll start with Freddie Mercury

Too many to mention.....Bowie, Weller, Poly Styrene, Axel Rose, George Michael, Annie Lennox, Tina Turner and a few thousand others. All have their own distinctive style. The ONLY one who I think can't be replicated is Neil Diamond. Many have tried and failed miserably at your local two bob boozer karaoke.

Bob Dylan. Can’t sing worth a **** most of the time but instantly recognisable and unique, so iconic. Similar to the mention of Poly Styrene. Iconic doesn’t necessarily mean good.

Would definitely agree with that. Elvis Presley had a distinctive easily recognisable voice and he really could sing. In fact he was a better singer than some give him credit for. He was iconic.

On the other hand if you're talking about tonal qualities etc. I have seen better singers than Bob Dylan at pub karaoke nights. But there's just something about his sound. I have doubts he would ever have made it at all if he weren't such a great writer.

A Boy Named Crow

Liam Gallagher circa '94-'96 had an ache that spoke for a generation, not a voice. The perfect front man.

Karen Carpenter for a good voice.

Geddy Lee for an instantly recognisable and 'it'll grow on you, honest' voice.

Another shout for Karen Carpenter.

Chris Cornell was far superior to both.

While I like both I'd pick Mark Lanegan.

Ann Wilson of Heart deserves a mention too (although only partially related to the Grunge scene).

Tom Waits.

Beautiful songs sung with his unique gravelly voice.

Nobody comes close.

Correct!

Tom Jones as well; surprised he's not been mentioned before.
