A fair guess would be……..this will cost the west billions…..the Taliban will sell the airport back to the Americans or charge a huge landing fee per aircraft, they do realise that aid will be needed (free aid) to support Afghanistan soon via the airport.  Any starvation/humanitarian issues will be blamed on the west bailing out…..the west need to win back some sort of credibility and will continue to support Afghanistan……..

Billions…..absolute billions

On one hand, the Taliban are banning girls from attending high school.

On the other hand, the USA admits that the drone strike on a car at the airport killed nobody but civilians. 3 adults and 7 children.

Nobody can do anything right in that shitehole.

Thought that was the Afghan equivalent of the abandoned supercars at Dubai Airport.

Except the arms industry. They’ve done alright.

Not like the yanks to airstrike the wrong people

It's never ending with them .

The more you see of it, the worse it gets.

The car owner worked for a American aid agency.

How has their "intelligence" got it so wrong.

Killing civilians has been a common event.

The other thing that happened in Afghanistan and helped the Taliban is that Afghan warlords who the US paid to take control in some areas called in US air strikes on their opponents with the easy justification of calling them 'terrorists'.

Our Governments really are a shower of *****. The Taliban or any other group don't really need a recruiting plan. We do it for them.

I recon they could take our navy. They already beat our land forces.

But but Britannia rules the waves.

Not the intelligence wrong, but the calibre of the American service personnel, I will repeat ad nauseum, they are imho poorly trained and poorly disciplined.

You saying they have hit the wrong target?

Our navy is at a even bigger disadvantage then.

Yip we've got to drag our boats overland first to reach the Taliban Navy.

That wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. They do have a habit of doing so.

Over the years, they haven’t been particularly noted for their subtlety bringing them success. It has tended to be strength of numbers and better equipment that has given them the edge.
They have had spectacular failures even with those advantages.

It sure doesn't look like that.

We never exactly beat them in a fight though. Truth is our highly trained military with all its technology and funding struggled to deal with a bunch of farmers.

Only because they are fighting with both hands tied behinds back. If they were allowed to fight full on, it would be different story.

Are we talking about political agenda or full on ground fight when the bullets are flying?  In truth there were many instances of not being able to return fire after being shot at cos the guy shooting is wearing civilian clothes and has thrown away his AK47, that’s typically called “rules of engagement” however, every instance of a full on “square go” we booted the sh*t out of them…..seems we took a pasting cos the media only ever reported our casualties, you could multiply their casualties x10 at least so, when the taliban squared up (which was often) they were smashed.  They were tough adversaries and not afraid to die for their cause that’s why our casualties were high.  Yes we withdrew out of the fight but we did not loose the battle, we (government) lost the war.

Taliban wanted it more and had enough support in the country and crucially by Pakistan to establish and rebuild.

British army could have killed all the people they wanted and still would have been defeated eventually. Public wouldn't have stood the casualty figures to fight someone else's war.

As I've just said that wouldn't stop British soldiers being killed. How many British deaths would have been acceptable to fight so Afghan women could go to secondary school.

When you put it like that, it does seem a strange cause to be fighting for, especially when the Afghan army couldn't give a shot if their women are educated or not.

Take it the Brits just made honest mistakes.

£873 compensation paid for a damaged crane though lowest payment of £104.17 for a death AND property damaged.

UK forces paid compensation for deaths of 203 adults and 86 children between 2006 and 2014.

No.we are getting as bad as the yanks, as we cut down on training, and allow a lower calibre of candidate into the armed forces( especially the Army), not a popular view, but a honest view as far as I am concerned.

At the time reading the reports from Helmand, you wonder about how well the forces were properly supported. How good was their intelligence on missions where perhaps many civilian deaths were simply unfortunate mistakes or worse. And how much they were political pawns just supporting US public opinion.

We have always been political pawns. UK forces would have been nowhere near Afghanistan if Uncle Sam hadn't been paying a large proportion of the bills.
