Regarding the part in bold does anyone know what sort of numbers are usually in intensive care overnight as a total? 4 for Covid19 sounds very low but without it as a percentage of intensive care patients it's quite hard to judge. Are we talking 30% of patients in ICU being there with Covid, or 70%? Doesn't answer your question but gives an idea. Critical Care underpins emergency and elective work in all acute hospitals. Annually, more than 35,000 of the most severely ill or injured patients require specialist care and treatment in Scottish Critical Care Units. Obviously we need to keep an eye on things but freaking out over every new positive case seems a major overreaction at this point. protect the vulnerable (care homes...etc) and keep testing but surely we should be focused on keeping people working rather than Covid bingo every day. I think the schools opening is their big worry. Nobody really knows how the opening of schools will effect things. If the virus gets into and rips through a school, that’s a lot of infected kids/adults. It does not seem to effect young kids in much of a meaningful way, so no risk there. But if they pass it onto parents/grandparents, it could have quite a big effect on both cases and deaths. If the schools open and nothing really changes with the figures through September/October time; there will be no real argument to be as cautious as we are currently are being. Unfortunately there will be mass hysteria if even one grandparent or parent gets covid due to their child / grand child passing it on to them if they get it whilst at school. Itll be similar to the hysteria regarding pubs at the present time.

This bit certainly isn't very promising "Earlier this week, a King’s College London pre-print suggested that immunity to Covid-19 can vanish within months, indicating that the virus could become endemic. The researchers found that 60 per cent of people retained the “potent” level of antibodies required to resist future infections in the first two weeks of displaying symptoms. However, that proportion dropped to less than 17 per cent after three months. Prof Jonathan Heeney, a virologist at the University of Cambridge, said the findings had put “another nail in the coffin of the dangerous concept of herd immunity”. If you think that's fair and a successful system, then you must have different understanding of fair and successful.

If that figure had been 85% then you can be sure all the unionists would be out banging on about how the results are a farce and high grades were just thrown out to students on a whim to bump the numbers up.
