That the pass rates for Highers and Advanced Highers were up despite the virus disruption.

That's sound seeing no exams took place :thumb:

I never watched the briefing but it does sound like a party political broadcast.

I take it that dour prick Swinney was by her side?

Bit of controversy about this is there not?

There is, so the numbers could go even higher on appeal.

Are they hoping one of the biology students finds a cure or something? 😂

That is good news, but not really relevant to Covid-19. I'm sure lots of good things have happened since the virus. What's on tomorrow's briefing agenda...an update on  Fin whales swimming closer to shore?

Joking aside, it's certainly positive given that it's deemed relevant, suggests there isn't anything pressing to worry about.

I was hoping it was more fundamental than that and to do with the virus, but I'll take it 👍

Prelims took place before the lockdown. Swinney was indeed there.

Constant moans about pessimism, "scaremongering" and "finger-wagging", then when we get a bit of positive news it's deemed a party-political broadcast and not relevant.

Its important but a covid19 update is not the place for it

These updates are increasing being used as a platform for the Scottish Nicola Party to showcase Dear Leader into our homes with her own special brand of newspeak.

I wish it was. A daily televised independence rally would be fantastic.

We  could have an Indy referendum without bothering with votes and Nicola could have some very good news to report.

Really encouraging reading. Regarding the part in bold does anyone know what sort of numbers are usually in intensive care overnight as a total? 4 for Covid19 sounds very low but without it as a percentage of intensive care patients it's quite hard to judge. Are we talking 30% of patients in ICU being there with Covid, or 70%?

I’m curious at what point the SG acknowledges the numbers and the rhetoric reflects the reality. 4 in ICU and zero deaths for weeks on end. Obviously we need to keep an eye on things but freaking out over every new positive case seems a major overreaction at this point. protect the vulnerable (care homes...etc) and keep testing but surely we should be focused on keeping people working rather than Covid bingo every day.

Doesn't answer your question but gives an idea.

Critical Care underpins emergency and elective work in all acute hospitals.  Annually, more than 35,000 of the most severely ill or injured patients require specialist care and treatment in Scottish Critical Care Units.

I think the schools opening is their big worry. Nobody really knows how the opening of schools will effect things.

If the virus gets into and rips through a school, that’s a lot of infected kids/adults. It does not seem to effect young kids in much of a meaningful way, so no risk there. But if they pass it onto parents/grandparents, it could have quite a big effect on both cases and deaths.

If the schools open and nothing really changes with the figures through September/October time; there will be no real argument to be as cautious as we are currently are being.

It gives an insight as I didn't even have a ball park figure. Appreciate I could have looked it up maybe, thank you for sharing what you found 👍

Should point out that those figures include high dependency units and intensive care so not sure what the actual figures are in ICU.

23 ICU units in Scotland though. 4 Covid-19 patients is nothing. (apologies to anyone affected by it)

Unfortunately there will be mass hysteria if even one grandparent or parent gets covid due to their child / grand child passing it on to them if they get it whilst at school.   Itll be similar to the hysteria regarding pubs at the present time.

32 cases linked to a single pub in Aberdeen is worth bringing up.

Yes but they are tracking people who attended the pub etc so got it under control.  This will be the future for a long time so lets just realistic and accept it will happen without the doom laden headlines.  AS long as its being monitored by track and trace. etc

As I mentioned earlier in the thread I was in 3 pubs in Eyemouth in the last 10 days or so, only one did track and trace and the other 2 didn't bother their arse. 2 pubs I was in in Berwick both did it but the amusement arcade in Spittal (with kids running everywhere) didn't.

Some of the pant wetters on here won’t like that but it’s where I’ve been on this for a couple of months now. It isn’t going to go away it’s simply waiting for us to come out again. Until we really face it we don’t know what’s going to happen. There’s basically people wetting themselves almost at every infection it’s ludicrous stuff.

We don’t even know if herd immunity will even work! Dangerous article.

Proven treatments are what we need progress with. Not a mere hope for the best and back to work everyone.
