He was a professional footballer in Germany where they have the winter break from before Xmas to mid January usually, so last season would have been his first time experiencing 'working at Xmas' I would imagine. Maybe his family didn't enjoy Xmas in Barnsley and had decided to have in back in Germany before he got the job here.
