A man plagued with swing demons.     He's mercurial,  brilliant and often self destructive.      But you can rarely cope with his degree of self destruction.

Absolutely pouring now :D

Rory stabilising the ship a little but slippy conditions will see him with another quadruple I reckon

The thing I like is if this was Muirfield Rory would be blaming anything bar himself but as it's his home turf he cant criticise it in any way!

Where is he even in the rankings? Pretty sure my cat is top 5000.

Rory showing he's not good at the pressure yet again either. Home course...

:sweeet:

"Play the course like when you were 16 again, Rory."

"Why? Look at all my muscles now. Watch...look how far I can hit this...oh...!"

Duval is a weirdo.    Rory is an enigma who really needs to commit himself wholeheartedly to a good coach.

Going back to this. Does he have a Sports Psychologist as part of his team?

This mentality that somehow  he feels he has to get in early, attack the course and try to blow the field away, is ridiculous. You hear him say it all the time.

All he had to do today, was plod around. Even par is a good score considering.

He'll be embarrassed tonight. As he should be.

Not sure but he needs to commit to a long term coach and follow how he's coached.

Tiger on the 4th, just hit a beautiful tee shot, over the two left hand bunkers. Perfect position.

Unfortunately missed a chance for a birdie on 3rd, even par so far.

Duval , 28 shots on holes 5,7 and 17 😂

Time for this dinosaur to wrap his hand in

Should not be allowed to tee it up at The Open again.

Tiger Woods losing the plot in brutal conditions now. Started well, now 3+ and just smashed a tee shot into some heavy ruffage.

Looks like the varied weather has splattered the field then.    That's Open golf though.     Cut could be +4 or +5 or so,    so dogged survival is required.

David Duval is still dropping shots.  His 13 has been reviewed as a 14 for a 91 total.

Taking so many shots that you can lose count...

Yip. It's been McIlroy's failing for years now.

Ewen Murray was creaming his jockeys before Rory tee'ed off about his 338 yard bombs on the range. 20 minutes later he's scratching a snowman on his card and his open is over.

He gets away with it in the US of A but not over here where the rough is up to your baws.

Still he's earning life changing money per week regardless of whether he chops it around or not and probably gives zero ****s

Correct. In reality it's depriving another golfer of a place in the field.

He should do the honourable thing and withdraw from the next championship.

Actually took a 14 at the 7th

9 over for 1 hole

At least the likes of Curtis and Hamilton didn't kick the arse out of their exempt status

Lehman is another fecker that should stop milking it

You can get 400/1 on McIlroy to win.   67 will possibly snake him in.    Then he'll need a couple of 65s to have a chance.

You can get 4000/1 on Duval.    But he'll need to be 55 tomorrow.    :)

I've got small bets on Pepperell,  Olesen and Pieters.    Pepperell has actually gone out from 75s to 80s after a solid round.    Still fancy his chances of being in the mix.

I want to see David Duval's round. 14 on the 7th. 20 over.

What happened to that guy was great then just went over a cliff and never recovered.

Looks like the R&A got the set up right again. Rewards good golf and punishes poor play. Pin positions look a bit tasty tomorrow.

Thought the course looked great especially with the great crowds.

Duval lost his ball, found one and played it... it turns out it wasn't his so he ended up at the tee again through about 7 shots

'David Duval's score on the par five 7th hole has been adjusted to a 14 instead of a 13. His score for the first round is now 91, 20-over-par.

The adjustment was made following an error in reviewing his score on the 7th hole. David lost his first two balls from the tee and then played a wrong ball for the third ball played from the tee. On discovering the mistake at the green he had to return to where the wrong ball was played but the correct ball could not be found. Therefore he had to play again from the tee for a fourth time under penalty of stroke and distance. He played six shots in completing the hole with the fourth ball from the tee. He incurred a two-shot penalty for playing the wrong ball but the strokes played with the wrong ball do not count in his score (Rule 6.3c).

No further penalty was applied for the score adjustment.'

He said after yesterday he couldn’t swing well, couldn’t shape the ball, every shot was a struggle and he was in pain but fought through. 😬

I think Hatton is one more bad shot away from going full Happy Gilmore! His caddy could be first to feel the rage.

Good recovery though.
