Germany are relegated.

England can win their group with a win over Croatia on Saturday.

Just the first 2 days results. Other groups have been won and sides relegated. N.Ireland relegated. Denmark win group over Wales and Rep of Ireland.

I think it is hard to argue that the Nations League has been unsuccessful. Players and importantly fans clearly care more about their teams' performances than they do for friendlies and people are taking an interest in other countries results. Big teams being relegated is adding to the drama. The kind of genuine peril for the giants that is missing from most club football. This is before we even get to the various knock out elements. There were a lot of naysayers amongst media and fans when it was introduced. Will be interesting to see how many are willing to admit they were wrong.

I think this tournament is a really good idea. Cuts down on rubbish friendlies and pits countries up against similar ranked countries.

England could win their group tomorrow if they win.

Alternatively, they could get relegated if they lose.

I’m enjoying the nations league more than I expected. As a poster above said, it’s a lot better than tedious friendlies.

I think it'll be easier to judge when we see the consequences (whatever they are) of winning a group, beng relegated and of finishing mid-table.

Good Kane has finally scored against Croatia.

Makes up for missing the chances at 1-0 in the semi final to take them to the World Cup final.

English hero.

for a side that was accused of not being able to beat anyone decent only 4 months ago to top a group with Spain and Croatia is a properly impressive achievement.

Martin Tyler saying they’re through to the Nations League semi finals? Not sure I understand this thing yet...

The teams in the ‘A’ groups as seen as being in the top league so therefore the group winners play in a semi final/final format to be crowned the winner of the league.

The other tiers have their semifinals/ final play off to qualify for Euro (unless you already get there via normal qualification).

Portugal also through to semis. Between France/ Holland (Holland play Germany tomorrow) and Belgium / Switzerland (who play tonight) for other places.

The Nations League will now become the ultimate international tournament the World Cup has always aimed to be but has never really managed to be since about 1966, as the English media start getting sexually excited about the closing stages.

If England do well in this new tournament playing proper tough opponents, as so far they have, it gets written off as a nothing tournament by everyone else and England are mocked for getting excited.  England do well in a World Cup and they get accused of getting over excited when they haven’t played anyone decent.  There’s a theme here!!

Didn't accuse them of anything. Really didn't care, beyond being glad they didnae win it.

Sorry chief wasn’t aiming those comments at you specifically.  More just a general observation on how the narrative will probably end up going

Good to hear. I like Portugal, and their coach seems very good. Solid team

Republic of Ireland are putrid to watch. Phil Babb suggesting their style of play is 30 years out of date!!

Martin O'Neill is starting to look past it

He was a bit edgy in his interview I thought. He's under pressure undoubtedly.

2 years ago we were the only side not at the Euros from British Isles / Ireland. Since then RoI, NI and Wales appeared to have gone into various stages of stall or reverse.

I think Scotland have got better players than both Irish nations and possibly Wales even allowing for their two top players.

Whether McLeish is the right man to take us forward is another matter

Norway just completed their group. We now know for sure that a Scotland win tomorrow means we are the top ranked Nations League C team ensuring Hampden advantage in the one of semi final play off. This would definitely be against Finland assuming none of us, Norway, Serbia or Finland qualify automatically. The final is a straight draw so would either be at Hampden or in Norway/Serbia. NB. Serbia would be overtaken by Romania tomorrow if they fail to beat Lithuania at home and Romania beat Montenegro away. Both happening seems unlikely.

Should we draw tomorrow we would in all likelihood be the next best finisher in Nations League Group C, behind the 4 group winners and would therefore probably be in a play off, away from home against a League B side. Not advisable!

Of course all this is moot if we finish in the top 2 of our Euro qualifying group.

Was gonna ask this. Assuming semi is home and away wih away goals. But the final....where is that played??

No which is why tomorrow is such a big game. If we win we will be the top seeds in Nations League C which guarantees a home semi final which is a one off game, no away leg. The final is also a one off game and the draw for that is on November 22nd and basically determines which of the 2 semis gets the home draw.

Hypothetically if we were to be the semi final drawn to host the final we would be sitting today knowing 3 home wins v Israel, Finland and one of Norway/Serbia would see us playing in Euro 2020. Worst case we would have the 3rd of those fixtures away. It’s a golden opportunity given where we’ve been the last 20 years.

By the way the play offs are nearly 18 months away.....not played till 26-31 March 2020!

But would the proper qualifiers not be done by then, so we may have already reached Euro 20?(unlikely i know)

Yup, and if we do (and we finish top) then the next team takes our place (who is the next highest rank team in that league that hasn't already qualified.)

One odd thing about this is that, League A has the finals which happen next June to decide the overall champion of the Nations League. But if all four of those teams failed to qualify for the Euros then they play all over again.in March 2020 for a place in Euro 2020.
