High Riggs.

The only bit that's still there in this view is the castle.

The block of flats on the left is Gunnet Court. I think this must have been taken from a flat in Fidra Court, just behind it.

That copper must have went home with a headache trying to control the traffic. Trams, Horse and Carts, Cars, Bicycles.

I wonder what that monument on the island was

It's the Sinclair fountain. Catherine Sinclair, an author paid for the fountain which was for horses, dogs and people to drink from. It was removed in 1926 and part of the top of it is near the Water of Leith of Gosford Place.  There's a monument to Sinclair on the corner of North Charlotte St and Colm St.

Remains.

Thanks for that. Will make a point of seeing that next time I'm up there.

Find it fascinating these things are preserved. Nearly 100 years ago that fountain was removed

Back when I was a young and dashing Inspector of Weights and Measures, I would have to visit to check all the coal scales. Happy days.

That garage was owned by Davy Dalziel, an old pal of my dad. I remember going there in my old boy’s Capri to get his petrol and car serviced and them talking football.

Davy was head scout at Dundee when Bob Shankley was Manager and Sammy Kean was his assistant and Davy followed them both when they went to Hibs.

I’m thinking, almost opposite the wee entrance to the bottom end of the Braidburn Park?

The one at the bottom of Swan Spring Avenue?

Yeh that's the one.

The block in the picture was Caerketton Court, the one in the middle was Allermuir Court, and the one across Firrhill Drive in Colinton Mains Park was Capelaw Court.

Named after the three corresponding peaks of the Pentland Hills which lie a couple of miles to the south.

It isn’t these flats.

The ones you mentioned were about 15 storeys high and built in the early sixties.

I lived in Allermuir court from the late 70's to late 80's. I used to rush home from Tynecastle to deliver the Pink News to all three blocks, and I did the Sunday morning paper round in all three blocks. I uset to play long-bangers in that drying green you can see there.

It's Oxgangs, mate. The block in the photo is Caerketton Court.
