Delivery date changed to today, nothing.

Lassie on chat says it could be here before Sunday, if I'm lucky.

MyHermes. Deary me. We seem to live in a particularly bad area for couriers where parcel force habitually pretend they've been here when they've not and take a number of days to do something simple like leave a package at the post office. Then there's the abusive UKmail guy.

Myhermes don't even bother though. They take my parcels to their depot and just let them sit there for a week before deciding they can't deliver and return them to the vendor. They've done this at least half a dozen times since November. Their tracking doesn't even tell lies, they even admit they don't try. We only get around it by either cancelling or asking the vendor to send via a different method.

DPD meant to be collecting a delivery from last week that was damaged, company I bought it from said Tuesday for collection, text from DPD on Sunday night saying they'd collect on Monday, replied to the text to change to Wednesday, DPD confirmed saying i'll get a text wednesday morning with a 1 hour window, nothing yesterday while I was at home, got text this morning saying they will attempt to collect today while i'm at work.

Deliveries and collections should not be this difficult ffs

It's literally just took me writing to Hermes UK CEO to get receive 3 parcels that have been going in circles for weeks. Even then, it took a courier to call me and tell me I could pick them up from his house. Not his postcode to deliver to and they'd go back to the depot otherwise. Clearly I wouldn't have these if I hadn't emailed Martijn DeLange and even then they didn't manage to give my stuff to the right guy.

There's still another package in the wilderness!

I see a DPD courier has just died after missing appointments to see his specialist. He would have been fined £150 if he'd gone to the appointment. *******s never turn up on time though eh.

That is tragic and confirms that the delivery companies are shocking. Some of the drivers are useless though. My one at my new house is great though, still think DPD are awul.

It's a horrible story but I can see another side to this. The bloke was self employed with a franchise contract where he basically promised he'd do the deliveries on his round come rain or shine, fighting fit or with two broken legs. He knew that unless he could provide relief then the penalty for not fulfilling his contact was £150. When he couldn't cover his shift at times it seems he put his work ahead of his health. Whilst that's all very shite it's what he and many others signed up to.

It would seem a lot fairer to simply not be paid for the shift for a no show, certainly in the case of a an appointment for a documented illness.

Seems to me that the whole industry needs a shake up as this isn't just going to be DPD. Makes me very grateful for having 6 months full pay and 6 months half pay for sick leave, especially since I'll be pushing 5 months off by the time I go back to work at the end of next month.

Well that is the company spin. The reality is low pay and penalties for not meeting targets, sort of the opposite of bonuses for bankers. At least the courts are getting to grips with this now, both with Uber and Pimlico plumbers.

You can call it spin if you want but it's the truth. I'd call it an employment loophole. It's legal exploitation in plain sight.

Given his health condition I'd say the bloke was in the wrong job but it's not fair to assume he could easily find other work given the length of his service. Companies like DPD aren't going to treat their franchisee's any better unless they're forced to so the answer and blame lies with government legislation.
