...a bit disco
The Rangers result was of course bad in Europe but Luxembourg really have improved as a whole club and country. Results not as humiliating as they once were. More proof tonight. Tziolis. Cathro I'm afraid probably made some decent players look ding. It's absurd to think otherwise for sanity Indeed. NANOJAMBO
France 0-0 against Luxembourg and Belgium being held 0-0 against Greece. So much for safe bets. Is this the biggest p1ss take of all time , a quote from the Luxembourg coach on the BBC website - Luxembourg beat Belarus 1-0 on Thursday for their only win of the qualifying campaign so far. "We are satisfied with the point, which we got playing with a lot of heart, commitment and also success," added Holtz. "With a bit more luck we would have got the three points. "For Luxembourg, the result is historic. A point against a top team is extremely rare." The home side had 76% possession, 34 shots and hit the woodwork twice... Brilliant. 23% possession but on top. Still not certain. They have 13pts (taking off the 6 they got against San Marino) They play Germany at home and Norway away. A point in either would guarantee the play offs but losing both would be precarious.

As much as I like a piss and moan about the BBC, not their fault. SFA make more money selling broadcasting rights to sky sports and have even told the Scottish government they aren't willing to compromise. Hendricks
Syria have got a play off place after drawing in Iran. Will play Saudi Arabia in the play off unless they find a winner in the last half hour against Japan. If the Saudi's score it would knock Australia into the play offs. The winner of that play off then needs to beat the 4th placed team in Concacaf to make it to the WC.

wheatfield to sheffield
After tonight's fixtures, can someone - let's call then Statto - carefully go through the remaining fixtures and work out exactly what has to happen for Scotland to qualify for the playoffs? Scotland will definitely be second in the group if we won both remaining games, and definitely will not if we don't. But only 8 teams that finish 2nd go into the play offs, and 1 doesn't. It would be awful if we finished 2nd, winning 4 games in a row, and still didn't make the playoffs. Statto, please tell us it won't be so?

Will know more later tonight but I've given two examples that would guarantee us to finish as one of the best 8 runners up IF we win both matches. Holland beat Sweden in Amsterdam. Bosnia fail to beat both Belgium at home and Estonia away. Should either of those happen no 2nd place team in either of those groups can finish on 14pts. Hendricks
Ukraine and Iceland finishing in a draw would be good news. Would mean the former would have to beat Croatia at home or Iceland would have to win in Turkey to get to at least 14pts. Interestingly if the Republic game ends a draw it will mean that both they and Wales would need to win the last game in Cardiff to make the play offs. A draw would quite possibly elimante them both. Hendricks
Shit Bales have scored Funnily enough the Wales score made absolutely no difference to us as they would lose the Moldova scores in any case. They could always get to 14pts, the same as us by beating Georgia away and Rep of Ireland at home and that would have remained the case whatever happened tonight. If Ireland lose to Serbia it means that they can only get to 13pts by winning in Wales so they can't beat us if we win both. Basically if this Ireland score remains the same a draw or an Irish win in Wales would ensure we got a best 2nd place finish.

Hendricks
The group that is now wide open is the Croatia, Iceland, Ukraine and Turkey. There are a number of permutations that could see the 2nd team finish on less than Scotland. Ukraine would now need to beat Croatia at home to get to 14pts. Iceland would need to draw with Turkey away to get to 14pts. Turkey would need to beat both Iceland at home and Finland away to get to 14pts. Mikey1874
Good finish by Wales. Young Woodburn on as sub again made the difference with run and cross. All of us need to win our final 2 games to stand a chance of the play offs. Bosnia play Belgium at home and Estonia away. Wales play Georgia away and Rep of Ireland at home. If we were to win both our games and either of them fail to win both their matches then we would be guaranteed a play off spot. If all 3 of us were to win both games then there are still other possibilities: - Sweden lose in Holland leaving them on only 13pts. - Northern Ireland lose at home to Germany and away to Norway leaving them on only 13pts. - Iceland lose in Turkey leaving them on only 13pts, Turkey then fail to win in Finland leaving them on either 11 or 12pts and the Ukraine fail to beat Croatia leaving them on 11 or 12pts. What a HUGE result for Scotland......get in there! Of course there is still the small matter of Sunday and a difficult away trip but one would hope Slovenia might not be quite at it like they may have been and that we will be seriously motivated with this opportunity which looked so unlikely a few months back. Strachan deserves enormous credit for how he has got us back in this position. Massive late goals against Slovenia and Slovakia and 2 against England show this squad play for him. We have improved immeasurably. Looking elsewhere there will be some nervy Northern Irishmen tonight, not because they lost to Germany which was pretty likely but because they have to go away to face a Norwegian side who have introduced a bunch of youngsters, have no pressure on them and who scored 8 tonight. If they lose they'd only finish on 13pts in the race for second. We can now sit back for a couple of days and watch what transpires elsewhere. I'm hoping Belgium take the point we need them to from Bosnia.
Statto
I've read that it's unlikely Slovakia or Slovenia can qualify for the play offs now even if they finish 2nd. It's likely they will be the worst 2nd place.

Hendricks
In the bosnia group if they lose to Belgium Greece are likely to finish 2nd and would have more points than us if they did. Best bet could be dutch group? Greece can only finish on 13pts (minus their 6 v Gibraltar) so that's incorrect. Only Bosnia could have a better 2nd place record than is in that group and would need to eat Belgium at home and Estonia away to do so.
Hendricks
Northern Ireland have 19 points not 13 They only have 13pts in terms of 2nd place teams as the points against the bottom side drop off. If they lose to Norway away they'd finish with 13. If we beat Slovenia we have 14pts.
Hendricks
Basically before Sunday if Wales fail to win in Georgia or if Bosnia fail to beat Belgium at home a win in Slovenia will guarantee Scotland a play off spot.
