Cade
The whole thing stinks. It's the richest council in the UK, with hundreds of millions in cash reserves. It's even been giving council tax rebates to the upper band taxpayers. But it thought that the tower block was an eyesore. and wanted it clad to look nicer for the poshos. Did it pay for the best possible cladding and the best possible quality of workmanship, with all of it's huge cash reserves? Of course not. It was a pleb tower block. So they cut corners wherever they could. Dangerous cheap cladding, shoddy workmanship. And 72 people died. Long before the cladding went on, the residents of the block had been in dispute with the council over various safety concerns. Exposed gas pipes, inadequate lighting, unsafe fire doors, gaps at the tops of walls, all were pointed out. The council labelled these people as "troublemakers" and point blank refused to engage with any of the compaints. The council even tried to take them to court to gag them. The council treated the residents of Grenfell as 2nd class citizens. And 72 people died.
Mikey1874
I followed the inquiry very closely when the actions of the fire service were being reviewed. But there was new information yesterday about some of the deaths, particularly those who died in their beds.
Sooperstar
Sadly looks like Spain are having their own Grenfell moment. Early reports are that the fire spread quickly because of the material on the outside of the building. King prawn
Moving to Valencia in June … I think I’ll be avoiding any of those buildings with dodgy cladding materials. 14 storey tower block went up in flames in 10 mins
