St Paddy's Day

Locky

Recommended Posts

Probably covered in the Seethe thread somewhere but thought it deserves its own.

Why the **** do people make such a big deal about this? I'm talking people who've not even got a hint of Irish in them, planning nights out and St Paddy's themed parties.

I'm part Irish myself, and I couldn't give a toss. We don't even celebrate our own day.

Edinburgh and the Lothians own Radio Forth, do they not have some sort of big thing on down the Grassmarket, in The Three Sisters or something, every year for St Patricks Day?

Don't think they do anything for St Andrews Day.

I'll actually be in Ireland for this on Friday. Won't in Dublin. Expecting it resemble a West Lothian galaday.

When I say for it, I don't mean purposely for that.

An embarrassing abomination full of reprobates and reprobates in training, pretending to care just because all of their mates are out wearing stupid hats and generally acting like pricks.

Especially the Irish Americans who have little to nothing to do with Ireland, yet suddenly EVERYONE is a third-Irish or so. Not you're not. **** off.

I can remember being out years ago when we were playing the Irish on St Patricks weekend and it was mental up town that night. All in good spirits mind you.

Not sure why they go so mad for it over here some folk just look for any excuse to get hammered.

Mainly nob head students thinking they are cool and old because they can drink in a pub but shame on anyone who latches on to this day who is not Irish.  Pathetic cretinous individuals.

I'm photographing a wedding on St. Patrick's Day.

The groom wanted a picture with those bloody Guinness hats on.

Luckily the bride has started as she means to go on, and told him GTF with the idea.

Guinness hat in your wedding album

It's a bit weird when folk with not a drop of Irish in them go running about the town for it.

You mean like Scots pretending to be English by voting no or Tory? Weirdos

A cringe fest.

An absolute riddy for anybody involved.

Arseholes who never usually go out drinking get tanned on rank rotten guiness and shite irish whiskey and make the city centre a nightmare.

Ginger wigs, green top hats and pishy "oirish" accents all round.

:what:

Regal Kingston

Quite liked St. Patrick's Day growing up.

Occasionally got a free Guinness and more chance for the single guys to get a winch as people were generally more inebriated.

Some people on here seem to hate everything;

Scotland games, Scotland, St. Paddys, Christmas, Hearts etc.

She also wants a picture where everyone's in a heart shape around them.

And a picture where it appears she's standing on the Groom/Best Man/Ushers. Plus a photo of everyone having a shot of Sambuca.

She wants me & my colleague in the shot too.

It'll be a classy affair...

Did folk not used to get wedding photos where they were inside a Champagne flute or a brandy goblet?

Plus, Sambuca at a wedding

Don't mean to be a killjoy bt maybe best to remove this? Just on minuscule chance a member of the party see's this and complains about you slagging them off or whatever

Just trying to look out for you and your business

Got to doff your leprechauns hat to Guinness though, they've made the day their own.

I think it is time to come out of the closet and declare where my proclivities lie.

I prefer Murphys to Guinness.

Working in Belfast in 1995 on 17th March, never realised it was anything special that day, apart from the restaurant had colcannon (sp) on the menu which was outstanding.

When I lived in Tipperary with my ex we had a great day!! Beers for breakfast, lovely family Sunday lunch (with loads of wine) and the rest of the afternoon/evening in local bars. The entire village was out celebrating, an excellent day!!

Not sure this is the same discussion but Kilkenny Red is great.

My birthday also. Places are generally jumping on the night (especially if it falls on a weekend) and the atmosphere is good so usually makes for a fun night.

Don't mind St Paddy's Day but all the hat wearing etc can gtf unless you are actually Irish and even then...

I do wonder why we celebrate St Patricks Day but not St Andrews Day to the same extent.

Because St Andrew's Day isn't used as a marketing opportunity from the most famous brewing company in the world.

And of course. Cause people are sheep.

Although I agree that it is a bit cringey seeing people out in town in ridiculous hats and drinking Guinness despite having zero connection with Ireland, does it really matter? If people are out enjoying themselves and not causing bother then good on them. Also, it provides a bit of a boost for the pubs etc.

What pisses me off about St Patricks Day is just how widespread it is. I know there's a big global Irish diaspora but there's also a large Scottish diaspora too yet our culture isn't celebrated the world over and is barely celebrated in our own country.

The Irish tend to be quite proud people. We tend to be self-loathing.

Agreed. They are indeed very proud people and incredibly patriotic. They are also generally upbeat and always up for a laugh. We, on the other hand, are fairly negative and leas patriotic.
