I'm not sure what point you're trying to make but it looks like one of forgiveness and letting sleeping dogs lie, with a soupcon of whataboutery thrown in.

As with yer man who sent the pictures of his junk to a stranger, this isn't about the specifics of how he gets his rocks off - each to his own and all that. The trouble is that we've got a prurient tabloid media who enjoy the titillation of stories involving homosexual activity as if we were still in the 1970s and It Ain't Half Hot Mum was still acceptable viewing.

However, there are standards we can expect of our MPs, let's call them integrity, professionalism and accountability. Menzies made yet another bad choice and demonstrated a chronic lack of any of the three.

I'd never donate to a political party but if I did, I think I'd expect my donations to be put towards campaigns to have 'my' candidate elected, not towards his medical bills nor towards paying a ransom to get him out of a sticky situation into which he'd put himself. Furthermore, I would be raging if the party to which I'd donated was fully aware of this and sat on the story for three months hoping that it wouldn't see the light of day.

So, yes, Menzies may have a future but not as a politician. And it's bigger than just him; the party will need to go some to convince me that they've handled any of this with Sunak's integrity, professionalism or accountability.

No doubt.  But until such time that they might unfortunately require a period of health related absence from work.  Then find that they cannot rely on the discretion of an independent doctor.

They would howl from the rooftops no doubt.

At what point in any of an elites life will they need to see a General Practice Doctor on the NHS or rely on them for something?  They will most likely all have private health plans and/or their own private physicians on stand bye.   All this howling at the moon is for the last bastions of the party.  Custer had a better chance of winning that this mob.

If that's not what he intended to convey, he should be out there clarifying. And then he should be engaging a better speech writer. But I'm inclined to go with BfB's summary as being the intention.

I wonder what is evisaged to comprise this new,  world leading "specialist work and health professional" agency that will have responsibility for certification.  The mind boggles.

Publicly funded but outsourced to a private,  commercial contractor per chance?  No proper and open tendering process?  Contract mysteriously lands with friendly business interests?  By a remarkable coincidence a party donor perhaps?

Amirite?

Or do trained and educated people actually believe that stuff?

They 100% do believe it.

See, The Tories have a stunning master plan for the UK, but after having been in power for 14 years, the nation is in a far worse state then when they came to power.

It cannot possibly be that 14 years of Tory policies and ineptitude that have caused this, because they have this great master plan, you see.

It's obviously the fault of a global Marxist conspiracy led by Gary Lineker and Carol Vorderman.

The Banks of England, EU, UN and IMF are all in on it too.

And the National Trust with their woke margarine scones.

If only we could smash this far left conspiracy, the Tories could put their master plan into action.

Ahhh, that old trick, eh ?    Camilla's gone full Farage now - they're so angry with the right-wing Tory Party   for being  left-wing extremists that a new super-ultra-right-wing party is needed to save Britain.

Its a damn clever ruse,  tbf

Strap in. We should get about 30 pages of the boys from the SNP thread screeching about fraud and how this government is corrupt to the core and how we should be eternally grateful that they're not running the economy etc

I'm sure police Scotland have a few tents lying about for the boy's front garden.

That's the way, James. You keep those blinkers on! Ironically, the jist of the article is to point out how Andrew Neil's "nothing to see here" approach helps no one but the Tory *******s who get away with it time and time and time again.

Ray's echoed my initial thought. If a 1989 breakthrough act is "new", are you yearning for Les Dawson or Bernard Manning? "Take my wife..."

Electoral Calculus currently predicting that the Conservatives would have 90 seats based on current opinion polls, with Labour on 458, and the Liberal Democrats on 50.

Useless against nukes, so I do wonder who is bold enough to fire ballistic missiles at a NATO member.

The irony is that he is a very capable journalist and interviewer and if he wasn't just a mouthpiece for Harmsworth and Tufton Street he would be capable of shining a light into the obscene corruption this shower of gangsters have been getting away with. Instead he's just a disgrace in a profession full of absolute bounders.

I can't stand the way journalism in the UK is contorted to suit narratives! It's comical but they aim for the stupid and occasionally hit the target!
