Bazzas right boot

Absolutely! Thank Christ we dropped those three points away to Hamilton from being a goal up with 10 minutes to play with that roaster Collum in charge. Thank Christ we dropped those 2 points at home to Killie from being a goal up and heaven forbid it but we actually made a sensible substitution last week against Dundee otherwise we might still be just the one point off the top and all the roasters on here who thought we could actually challenge would still be going on about it.

Dropped points!! Thank f#@k for that!

and....Lets hop we can drop more points and put talk of  finishing 2nd to the side, we are newly promoted you know- top 6 is the holy grail!!!

Talking about wanting to win the league is one thing - it's good to dream! But back in the real world we'll need a squad with a lot more strength in depth and quality to actually do it. Anyone got a spare ?10m or so to get near Celtic in the cost of their current squad in transfer fees? And then another 10m a year for the extra wages? Plus ?5m or so close season spending every season? And that's with Celtic at their weakest for years.

As it stands we're doing well to be anywhere near Aberdeen just now as they've spent a lot more money on their squad.

The 4 points we have dropped recently have lowered my expectations but not by that much.  If our squad is good enough to go on a real run, who knows what could happen.

I thought "believe" was supposed to mean something to us.  It does to me.

When I check the league I count the points between us and 7th.  Top 6 for starters then see where we are come March.

What needs to be put to bed is the thought that a Piss poor Celtic team CANNOT be challenged.

Celtic would win the title with a reserve coach in charge.

This Hearts team is miles away from challenging for league titles.

That said, and I've said it before, if we cannot mount a serious title challenge within the next 3-5 years then we'd all be as well jacking it.

Well, the post was clearly made on account of Celtic winning and effectively going eight and nine points clear of both Aberdeen and ourselves.

It's over before the Christmas decorations have went up. That's the harsh reality. You crack on losing your mind, though.

Exactly!!

Robbie has got to get away from the thinking that we need to primarily defend and hit on the break when we come up against them!!

The players have belief that they can do it, and I think they can as well, the tic are not unbeatable, but if you give ANY team that respect then they are on the front foot from the off!!

All roads lead to Gorgie

The 05/06 team was miles ahead of the rest apart from Celtic and we were probably better than them too but the reasons they pulled away are well documented. This team is marginally better than most but being involved in fairly even games with at best average outfits over the last two weeks prove we are not there yet and it would take major signings we probably can't afford to get close come May.

Part of the reason no one will challenge the OF was shown at the end of the ICT game today.

Hughes- laughing and smiling and back slapping John Collins at the full time whistle after getting beat 3-1 at home.

I don't have the clip but it highlights the cultural shift required for any other team to serious challenge the OF, and for the time being Celtic.

This is spot on. The old pals act and fear factor when it comes to celtic works against any team mounting a serious challenge. For as long as the majority of the teams in the league set out to keep the score down against Celtic it's going to be very difficult to win this league.

For us we are probably 4 quality players away from getting close to celtic. Realistically you need 15 players all capable of going toe to toe with them.

Lord Beni of Gorgie

No need for pages of rubbish on this one. It is quite obvious. With the evidence available, Celtic are getting weaker but still hold a significant edge over the next 3 and it is 3. The other 8 can then please themselves. Talk of winning it, though I like the players to believe that they can win every game is above realistic expectation, but top 6, is just setting the bar way too low.

Thankfully this utter nonsense can now be put to bed.

We are in a total dogfight with Aberdeen for second place and it will likely go to the final few games of the season.

This is without doubt the most pathetic thread I have ever seen.  Bet you thought Rangers were going to romp the Championship last year and that ridiculous fanciful talk of us winning the league was pie in the sky.

Or am I wrong?  Maybe Anne Budge should get on the blower to Celtic to discuss the terms of our surrender ASAP.  Jeezzzz!  Anyone got a spine for the OP?

It always surprises me the memory lapses a lot of Hearts fans suffer.

We may not have won the league in 98 but we nowhere near spent the money both the Old Firm spent yet finished only 7 points behind the winners in 3rd place.

It's in our DNA, we know we can at least challenge, its there in our history, written in black and white but what 98 proves and other times is if you can find a high level of consistency you can stay in touch....you don't play Celtic every week and there'll be times they drop the odd point or two.

Why do so many people always want to point out the negatives? No Hearts fan has to be reminded we can't afford the same price range as Celtic but I'd rather look at what way WE CAN compete.

What needs to be put to bed is the thought that a Piss poor Celtic team CANNOT be challenged.

By the current Hearts or Aberdeen side?

No they can't.

I think either side would need to maintain the current gap at least then bring in 4-5 very very good signings who hit the ground running in January to stand a chance.

And when Celtic drop out of Europe I can only see them improve.

Celtic are far from the best side we've seen top the Scottish premier division but they are well ahead of Hearts and Aberdeen and won't be matched over 36 games. I'd bet my right leg on it.

Unfortunately yes. It seems the academy is some way away from producing the required quality so we'd need to buy and it's not going to happen.

I found this quote which I think sums up where you are regarding the debate

You can have anything you want if you will give up the belief that you can't have it.

FWIW The thing I took issue with was the very first word of your OP, ie "Thankfully". I mean, really??? You are thankful that what "might" possibly have developed into a title challenge for however long it would last, is "thankfully" over. The only thing that will make me "lose my mind" on this is the thought that a fellow Hearts fan is "thankful" that any possibility of a title challenge can now be put to bed.

You crack on being thankful, though.
