I would - not least because I live on the same street. :) Problem is, it's ******* expensive.

There's a GAP that's just opened there, btw. I'm not a fan of that company, but at least it'll provide a bit of variety.

Montevideo Shopping, over in the plushest areas of Pocitos (and next to a modern complex called, for some odd reason, the World Trade Center), has more: its finest point being Tienda Inglesa, the best supermarket in Uruguay.

You'd probably need to get the bus though, quite a trek otherwise.

How much is it a pint?

I wouldn't know; I don't drink. :)

But - if you consider how expensive Scandinavian countries are, the same principle applies here. Because Uruguay only has 3.4m people, it just doesn't have the resources necessary to sustain the kind of economy which larger countries have. Meaning, in order to maintain a good (if you can afford it, very European) quality of life, it costs shitloads.

I spend exactly as much here in living expenses (rent, food etc) as I did in the UK - but wages are half as good as in Britain at best. Making it a major struggle for everyone. But if you consider that the quality of life and economic stability here are second only to Chile in South America, it's a reminder of the staggering amounts of people in this continent who live in a way you or I couldn't possibly imagine. :(

I dunno if this is an attempt to creep me out, but...

Is it an attempt to creep me out?

The Old Tolbooth

You're wasting your time giving beats psychological food for thought. He's probably wrecked.

I can back him up here, he's definitely been 6 days off the sauce, I feel like I've lost a limb :sob:

Guys, just accept that I am kind of a big deal around here. I have many leather bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany. I have no doubt influenced thousands who read these forums.

Just think of me as an online Jesus.

Jesus%20using%20laptop.jpg

Brilliant

Beats was wrecked (not the story) on a glass bottom boat ride in Torquay and shat on the glass.

Jesus, I really wish this was true

Nope. Never have (a few vodka and diet cokes in Robbo's once with a few Kickbackers excepted); never will either.

So where are you getting all this info from? Because yes, it is a bus ride away. A long enough bus ride to make me invariably favour Punta Carretas Shopping instead.

That's another thing. Buses here. Positives: all the drivers play English pop music, usually from the 1980s but sometimes more recent. It is perfectly normal for me to be sitting standing on a bus with Madness blaring away; or Adele; or the Bee Gees. You name it really.

However, on the down side: there isn't enough room on one of these things to swing a cat. If you have any luggage with you at all (just a normal sized bag for heavens sake), you'll have a problem - which has left me getting a taxi back from Montevideo Shopping whenever I've been. And much more alarmingly: whereas in the UK, the bus stops and waits until everyone is seated or at least, in a stationary position, here, they start moving the moment you walk on board. You're left frantically trying to keep your balance as you pay either the driver or the "puerta" sitting a few feet to the side; it must be an absolute nightmare for pensioners, pregnant mothers, kids or mothers-in-arms.

Emm, you told him you live on the same street as the other shopping centre Shaun. That's probably how he knows how far you are

Erm, go back a wee bit further, and you'll see that, before I said anything about it, he was already hinting that he knew I was in Punta Carretas. Which I am - and very nice it is too. :)

Have no doubt that the boy Lawson is in Uruguay.

Have no doubt that the DVD never existed.

Have no doubt that the boy Lawson in Uruguay is a bit like Barry in Auf Wiedersehen Pet (without the motorbike)

Going to read this thread now - lets see how close to the Bullseye the old GA actually was.

I've read page 1 but have decided to leave the rest for my afternoon cocoa, cause its cold outside.

Not seen any of the rest if it. I assume there's no chance of it being pulled?

Good question - hopefully this thread can merit having the awards one reopened. :whistling:

Think the mods are trolling me by closing it tbh

Perhaps if you had spent less time telling everyone how you were definitely going to make your nominations this year, and more time making your nominations, then, well, you'd have been able to make your nominations. Perhaps.

Perhaps.

But they take bloody ages to type out and I can never be arsed doing them at the start. Also got to be building a bit of suspense after 2 years out - my nominations matter an awful lot to an awful lot of people. B)
